Could we trouble you for some character/player analysis, CallMePie?
-
To begin: thanks very much for choosing Haldor to take part. I've been thinking of taking a break for some time now, and I'm glad that I was able to retire him on a quest as compelling as this one. I'd like to particularly thank CallMePie for writing Haldor such a good send-off and for masterminding the execution. I actually really liked the diplomacy minigame - as an idea it has great potential but I think it didn't quite turn out as well as planned for a few reasons. I for one tried to play it as I believe you intended, with heroes having to discern the allegiances of the characters through conversation and discussion, and only guessing the identity once I genuinely thought I knew it, as with Bastala. Unfortunately, it seemed to turn into a case of 'guess everything' to the point of dispensing with the talking, owing to the hell of a load of heroes with diplomacy, and it somewhat lost its charm. The bridge battle seemed to be a sound concept, but unfortunately I felt that the mechanics were never definitively clarified and that made it more frustrating. Unfortunately I also got the idea at points that some players weren't really paying attention or interested, especially during that game. To be honest I just slap the best artefacts that I have on Haldor and call it a day.

It helps that half of the characters don't seem to know what's going on either.

I can take great satisfaction in that NO-ONE will have the Dualis sceptres.
-
I LOVE that hair on Haldor! Too late.

Inception: the best film I've seen for a long, long time. It's one of those films that feels intelligent as well as exciting, certainly very close to perfect.
-
That's why I stopped having Haldor mention or try and talk to her earlier in the quest - I'm not going to commit a large part of his personality to a player who is only active once in a month to repeat an action. You can all just consider his relationship with Jess non-canon now.

Heroica RPG - Quest #90: A Trip to the Circus

He grinned, albeit briefly. "I think's it's time I said my farewells. It'll be a change living over here, but I'm sure that we're going to have some stories to tell once it's time to put me under the floorboards. And if you want an outside opinion, you can't get much more outside than raised by barbarians in the godforsaken north." The nord couldn't deny that this was a huge decision to make, walking away from the only real family he'd been welcome in. Haldor turned and looked at his colleagues one by one. "This is it, folks, the last chapter of our drawn-out ramble. There's not really much for me to say, other than I'm not coming back to Eubric with you all - tell the captain she can offer my seat to some urchin or whatever. I've got something here, which is more than I've had at most times of my life. The roaming was good, and at one point you've all been a rock for me in one way or another - but I've got a job now. Take care, keep it up - the usual motivational crap. Maybe one day you'll chance across me again, even if it's in inside some hole somewhere or rattling down in the dungeons. I'm going to keep this short, for reasons, but make it known at the hall that I've pissed off with good intentions. One of you had better make sure Skrall, Lawrence, Atramor and the others I've shared a drink with know where I am. If you see young Arthur, tell him that he's forgiven, although we haven't met since the latest row. Let 'em pretend in my absence that I was some kind of super hero and whack a portrait up - name a bench after me in Triad park if you want to knock yourself out. Tell the greenhorns that uncle Haldor was the best of the best, and that's why he couldn't be arsed to come back." He coughed. "Seriously, though. You've been good to me and I've not always been easy company. I hope the memories aren't to awful to laugh about when you're all pissed later on. That's about it. Have yourselves some nice lives." -

Haldor looks down and scratches his neck. "Ah, hell. I've been thinking this over for a while, and I think my mind is made. See, it's that whole stacking-up and moving-on stuff that makes this job what it is. Before I came here, I opened the doors for a revolution in a far land no-one's ever heard of - and before that it was slaying god-complexes down in crap ancient temples. I feel that... sometimes I'm wasting my time. Soon as I left, who's to say that everything ain't just about to default to piss-poor and it'll have all been for nothing? Making a difference is about sticking with something 'till it kills you, or you see it through. There's always going to be another bloke to kill that dragon. I've got where I am, and walking away to go and do something bloody else isn't fun anymore. I'd like..." He paused. "I'd like more than nothing else to know that what I've done is gonna make things better, and have them stay that way. You know, maybe you'll need a thick-head head to do the leg work for you while you make your way back to where you need to be. Change is what the hell this place needs if it's to build itself up and out - I'm happy to get kicked-about for that kind of future. I'd like to stay with you... stay and work with you, rather. If you'd have me." The nord smiled weakly. "I thank you, I like to think that we've done what we could." -
Haldor will take the heavy armour and grand potion please, Chromeknight. Of course I should really post this in the quest thread, but I don't have much to add at the moment and a short post would interrupt the flow of the conversation.

"You know what you're talking about. Moving on and pushing for interaction is the only way to stop crap like this happening again. As for dear Raquel... I'm not going to protect him if his head is going to push for peace." He looked to Raquel. "Sorry, pal." The nord smiles as the clanleader wakes. "Not yet, but you better come over here and speak your way. The future is coming on over there." He points to the group of leaders already talking, and offers a hand to help her up. -

"Complete isolation is exactly what makes this people kill each other. If they only ever meet to fight, of course they're gonna hate the other side with a passion. The bridge should stand, in the hope that the orcs and kingdoms may find each other on non-combat circumstances. Get some trade going over it, that'd do a world of good." "So you killed her? Bloody fantastic. Has anyone checked for sure?" Haldor searches the corpses amongst the orcish side of the bridge looking for Bastala. If he finds her, he will make an attempt to heal her if she still breathes. -

"I'm not going to stand here and let these two lands tear each other apart. I'm in this for the long haul. But you're right that we have to stop this before it gets out of hand - lest all of this crap have been for nothing." "Aye, but unless the Boulders are going to come down here and take their share of the flak, I cannot see how knocking-off David is going to solve anything. Of course, the bridge is still what made all of this possible - but burning it down's just gonna be a giant kick to the kingdoms who put it here in the first place. No more blows, no more breaking even. Let's just have it stop right here." He nods to Valentino and Tarvalk in turn. "On the condition that all prisoners be released and the fighting ends right now... would you be up for a peaceful resolution?" He calls out. "And if anyone's seen Bastala, bloody speak up. One more dead clanleader makes a hell of a lot of difference." -

"The roles aren't reversed, and that isn't the point. Letting Raquel and the prince take this one is a cheap cop-out that won't solve anyone's problems. Situations like this aren't going to work both ways. What you're saying is that we should do away with the leaders of one kingdom, despite the criminals being of another and not even present, because all leaders are interchangablefor others. That's the same as old Shadeaux getting executed 'cause the guards are too damn lazy to arrest Hinckwell. How do you think the other kingdoms are gonna view the orcs if they're happy to club the nearest king because another one pissed them off? You can't substitute people for other people - that's a bloody stupid idea." He keeps looking around the bridge. "The best way for peace is for both sides to accept that they don't want to fight. Valentino needs to go home and tell his fellow kings that this whole thing was a waste of time and ain't gonna happen again. Killing the prince is another spark for another war no-one wants." -

Haldor stepped forwards from his shadowed position at the edge of the bridge. His clothes were filthy and stained with all manner of horrors that befall the bridge that day. Of all things, he felt relief. Despite the bloody events of the past hours, at least young David had lived - even if to be executed soon. The nord hadn't slain a monarch, after all - at least he could not be held responsible for a bloody and vicious end to the heir. The nord watched for a while, not making his presence known until he had heard what the others had to say. Finally, he spoke. "I know nothing of you or the other kingdoms, but it's seems pretty bloody foolish to hold you to account for the actions of other kingdom. The Four Boulders, do they have a man here we can have a chat with? If anyone's head needs to be taken, it's whoever ordered that attack - not you. Like I say, you could be a right bastard for all I know, but from where I'm standing, you're not our man." He turned solemnly to Tarvalk, saluting with his gored weapon as he did so. "Tarvalk, you must see that these are not even from the same realm as those whom we saw in Imaestym. David is prince of the Red Lizards, he should be held to account for these evens no more than should any man for his neighbour. These men are responsible for the deaths of no more orcs than the idiotic bloody Marga condemned to death with her archaic rituals. I respect you like a hole in the head for what you are prepared to do for your lands, but I will find my respect misplaced if you cannot tell when forgiveness and using your head are the only options you've got." He wiped his bloody face on a sleeve, looking around. "What of Bastala? Does she walk? I'll be pretty pissed if another's fallen today." -

"Bollocks - we've got enough essences amongst us to raise an army, just seems that some people are too thick to use 'em." Haldor heals Hoke, or Benji if the former has full health. -

"You best all get behind Hoke, he's the bastard with the biggest shield around here." Haldor inches closer to his armoured colleague, keeping himself out of the line of fire as he makes to heal the knight. -
Why is Haldor still being listed as hastened? He was hastened at the start of the battle, but has been knocked-out since then.

Haldor grunts in annoyance. "Guts, you're up." He darts away from the fighting for a moment to see to the party leader with a cosmic essence. -
I agree. Hoke doesn't own any unfairly powerful items, so unless we're going to execute heroes who work hard to create an effective build there's nothing really wrong here.

I'm pretty sure that ZCerberus doesn't want racism to be discussed in this LEGO-related forum. By no means has anyone been condoning racism, but this isn't the right place to talk about it, therefore... You are of course welcome to hold whatever opinion you wish, but it's for the best that this topic intended for Star Wars jokes doesn't become the place for such discussion. If you feel strongly about it, you're probably best off taking the conversation to PM, however.

I hate to sound disrespectful, but could this have not been clarified sooner? It seems to me that the battle could have turned out somewhat differently had I known this. Haldor coughs.
