  1. Time on my hands, I guess. Being a teacher I have summers off, kind of.
  2. I second that. How many of the vine pieces does it take to make one of those? They look great as cedar/spruce trees, better than any other way of trying to make them that I have seen.
  3. It is a jungle, I agree, but I have already navigated it several times putting together the map, so it was less onerous for me than it could have been.
  4. Wow! That is superb. My favorite part (besides the whole thing) is the lower level of stairs to the entrance. The layout and composition are excellent. I think that the colors of the tower are appropriate in the context of the whole, since the building in the front has the same coloration. All in all, a fantastic build. Glad I got to see it in pictures, at least.
  5. It is possible, I suppose, but I would be careful about claiming geographically separate lands, as it will then be difficult to justify them being the same realm. And you should really probably just concentrate on one patch to be your own. Alaveria and Ambalar are different in that their island and mainland portions are contiguous, separated by only a small channel of water. But I could be wrong. The powers that be are the ones who would know best. Welcome to the guilds, by the way!
  6. Welcome to Avalonia! I was in the exact same boat a month ago, with all of my bricks packed up in the middle of a move. I still do not have access to most of them, but I bought more to cope with the lack... As to the claiming of territory, it is my understanding that you must post a sigfig picture before officially claiming land (I slightly circumvented this by posting a fig pic to be changed later, once I get the rest of my minifigs and bricks from storage). Claims are thus unofficial until the sigfig posting is made (though you can still hang around and participate) and you are not considered an official member of Avalonia until you have a sigfig, either. Hopefully your sundering from your bricks is short term! Both sections of land you noted are still available, fyi. As to the history of Avalonia, it is recommended that you read the first page of this thread, particularly the first posting by RogueAngel. Other than that, for Avalonian history, it seems to be up to you what you want it to be in your little territory, as long as it does not contradict the general history of everything. The other guilds have histories, too, that intersect with the history of Avalonia, so it is often worthwhile to read their intro pages too. I went back and read the stories from Book I and the beginnings of Book II that are posted as links on the first page, as well, as a way of getting a feel for the landscape, if you will. But I would not worry too much if you do not have the time to do so; just start building in your area, making your own story, and read the posts of others who are currently building, to see what their stories do. You can contact others to build collaboratively, or you can build solo. Anyway, again, welcome!
  7. It all looks great, as usual for you, but I especially like the baker's shop on the left. The colors really work together well and those half-arches to overhang the street are splendid. I also like both of your domed towers, as they lend a very Kaliphlin feel to the whole thing. If I had to quibble about anything, it would be that the statue and plantings in the city-square seem hastily put together in comparison to the rest. Some plates, perhaps, or 1x2 cheese slopes, might have finished it off a bit better, along with a slightly higher pedestal for Lady Liberty. But all in all I think it looks great, a very vibrant city-scene.
  8. You are most welcome. Did I get it right as far as your borders are concerned?
  9. I have added it to my unofficial updated map on my post a few pages back.
  10. I updated my earlier post containing the map to show your new realm with all the others from the past year.
  11. Thanks everyone! The trees were quite fun to make (I guess that's why I chose Avalonia) and the fireball just kind of came to me as I stared at the unused pieces of the six sets that I currently have at my disposal (I bought a little tree-heavy, I suppose). That rock formation used up all of my dark and light bley pieces, so I look forward to getting my regular pieces back soon to build a tower or castle-type moc. Or at least a decent cliff.
  12. I think that has been claimed already as Falahuas. Here's the updated map:
  13. You could just pick a new area and call it Panik, I guess.
  14. Where is Panik? I'll add you to my unofficial updated map (you can see it a page back in this thread). Oh, and welcome (back)!
  15. I love the stonework on that farmhouse - absolutely stunning. I actually like the sand green and red combo, but maybe that is just me. I'm not sold on all the brown cones, though, in the walls; it's not bad, but not my favorite. To conclude, let me echo what some others have said, that I cannot wait to see all the builds put together!
  16. Thanks! Yes, I realize the towel is not a good option, but it was the best thing I had on hand. My situation is not ideal, being between houses in a drawn-out move, so hopefully next time I will have access to more and better choices. Also, are there free versions/equivalents of Photoshop out there? I do not really want to pay for it for my limited use.
  17. A link to my first MOC and the start of the Chronicles of Hesperia: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=137400
  18. The Chronicles of Hesperia Vol. 1: The Sky Man Ch. 1: The Fireball An eerie stillness in the forest caused Galaria to proceed through the trees with extra caution. Her elven ears heard nothing of an enemy, no tramp of hobnailed goblin boots or steel-clad orc feet, nor even the steady thud of the dwarves. Gilgalë had his ear to the ground, but he could feel no vibration of footsteps, not even of a running deer, and Farmir in the treetop could see nothing amiss in the woods in their vicinity. But something had caused the birds and insects to stop their chirps. Galaria mounted on her trusty wolfsteed, Laika, and left her companions behind at the camp to run a quick perimeter patrol. Meeting nothing strange that would cause the stillness, she returned to the others at the foot of the rock formation by the stream. Looking up just then, she saw, streaking across the sky, a massive fireball. Two smaller objects, smoking and leaving a trail, followed the first. Galaria climbed the rocks to get a better look at the unusual phenomenon. Gilgalë and Farmir rushed to get a glimpse of it as well. Even Laika wanted to see the fireball. Soon the fireball had vanished out of sight behind the trees, but not long afterwards they all felt the ground shake as though a giant hammer had smashed into it. “What was that?” asked Gilgalë. “I do not know, but the fireball and the tremor occurred too close together for them to be unconnected,” Galaria said. “Let us go investigate!” Thanks for reading! C&C welcome. This is my first MOC in GoH. I know the picture quality could be better, but I lack Photoshop and a really nice camera, so I made do with what I had. More adventures in the Chronicles of Hesperia await! More pics of the MOC:
  19. Excellent map and description! It is good (or not?) to know that I have malevolent orcs and drow and other fell, pointy-toothed beasties living right on my eastern frontier, kept away by the river...maybe?
  20. In addition to what others have said, the window grate as a micro-scale portcullis is a nice little detail.
  21. I took this from the current map of Avalonia, just removing the boundaries of the various realms, so it would probably be best if the rivers stayed at least fairly close to what you see here, as some of them form political boundaries or play key roles in the economies of the cities of the realms.
