  1. Keep up the good work of fleshing out your lands! I look forward to seeing what else you have to offer here (though I wish you made all of your figs fleshie, not just the elves).
  2. You do a great job of capturing the feel of both Kaliphlin and Mitgardia here. The Kali build is especially clean and precise, which is lovely, especially the color choices. The Mitgardian build is also great, with the snow and all of the brown. I like the tree, and unlike Titus, I do like the spikes on the tower, although I can see how it makes it look a bit orcish. The extended roof used as a shed is excellent, though. Great work, and glad to have you back building in the Guilds!
  3. That is a pretty spectacular microbuild! I love the way you incorporated the pre-fab bushes into it by sinking them beneath the surface and using them as filler trees. I especially love the tiny windows in the castle area made with the grill tiles. I like the city better without the dome, just because then there is no glare obscuring the view, but I really like the idea of a magical dome, and I know it is your style. I also like the interior shot of the study, with lots of nice details cluttering it up in a convincing way. Great work, and I cannot wait to see more builds from you as you build up your city and story!
  4. Another free build up for me, and for the glory of Avalonia:
  5. Maji the Water Dragon A freebuild for Avalonia < Previous Elemental Dragon ... Next Elemental Dragon > Maji is the Water Guardian of the coastal regions of the land of Mwamba, together with her elf rider, Lady Mvua. They work together to keep the land safe from any threats from the water, and preserve the water from any threats from those who would wish to harm it. They were some of the first to welcom Henjin Quilones and Galaria to Bandari, and to show them around Mwamba, when they arrived there in their exile. More pictures: ___________________________________________________ ....................................................................................................... Back with another elemental dragon, this time water. This one was much harder to photograph with my setup, due to the dark color of Maji's hide. Still very posable and all that, but I have to admit I don't like her as much as Kijani. C&C welcome, as usual.
  6. It works now. The general rule is to not exceed roughly 600x800 pixels in dimensions (or 800x600, depending on orientation), which is usually the largest of the Medium options for pasting BBCode from Flickr. I'm no expert but it looks like your pic might exceed that, but I would not worry excessively about that. In the future try to keep them in the upper-medium range to make it easier to view (too small and people can't see what it is) without going too big.
  7. @The Last of Nergoue the link seems to be broken for the picture. Are you linking from Flickr or other photo storage site?
  8. Excellent! Glad to have you in the best guild! If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask them. Folks around here are generally quite helpful and nice, with the exception of @TitusV... (Just kidding about the TitusV part...he's one of the nicest)

  10. Nice looking figs! I am glad the plains have such impressive soldiers looking after them.
  11. Thanks, Kai, hopefully I can get my microscale finished and photographed soon. I am back to more conventional colors, though, with dark bley rocks and light bley walls... The layout ended up being mostly what fit as I went along - I had a general idea of what I thought it should look like, but very few details were planned. Thanks! It might not have won, but second place wasn't bad. The village was something I decided the castle needed, some way to connect to the harbor and a place for regular folk to live. Thanks! I don't have anything in tan that is longer (or higher) than the 1x4x1 slopes I used for the buttresses, so there is little to fix that, I am afraid. The tree cover is limited due to two factors: 1, my parts collection; and 2, a good castle should not have much tree cover around it, as it could be used by enemies to attack unseen. And not all of Avalonia is covered with trees, after all. The eagle landing pad is between the main keep and the central round tower, on top of the connecting bridge (to the right and above the main doorway into the keep). It is not a separate tower, or on the roof, but on top of a bridge. Thanks, Gideon! I had originally thought to make it an elvish castle, but ended up thinking it looked too human still, so I changed my mind. But the lofty fairy-tale castle ideal was something I was hoping to attain nonetheless. Thanks, Narb! The full thing is detailed, meant to be viewed from every side; I am a little sad none of my pictures showed the interior of the upper wall around the keep, but oh well. The fountain indeed was a pain, with multiple layers having to be ripped out and rebuilt when someone decided to add the detail towards the end... Thanks, Garm! High praise, indeed! Thanks! Thanks, Titus! It was indeed my first real attempt at microscale, but I copied techniques left and right from other more experienced builders. I deliberately chose to keep the roofs mostly monotone, so as to convey the idea that everyone got their materials from the same place, at roughly the same time. It did not make sense to me to have them be different, even though I wanted to do something else when I began to run out of dark bley cheese! The water is mostly from the ocean, though it is near the mouth of the river, too. It was just a still day... That and I wanted the water to be almost stylized and smooth, since the scale is so small. Putting studs out there would be heavy surf! Thanks! Thanks, SK! I tried to build something that would have a compelling visual layout, hence the high keep. Thanks! I like the colors quite a bit myself. I have used them before in multiple builds set in Hesperia.
  12. Don't you think it is a bit dangerous for an establishment for the imbibing of alcoholic beverages should have its front door open almost directly onto a canal? How many poor drunks have drowned walking out of the inn, forgetting to take a hard right, instead walking straight at the temple to try to repent of their wayward habits? It looks like a cozy place to grab a few pints and do some shady dealings. The well-maintained exterior gives it a nice air of respectability, belying the criminal activity inside. The bar and the area behind it are may favorite part, as you made very nice use of a limited space.
  13. I agree with SK, the goat needs some more droid arms in his enclosure, otherwise he is running away for sure! And is anyone watching that chicken?! I really like the decoration above the market gate. The build itself is pretty simple, but I think it still fits into your city plans well.
  14. The tan building here is pretty excellent, in my view, with all of those beautiful arches and balconies. The log bricks up at the top serve nicely to break up the texture and give a hint of decoration. I am less convinced by the medium dark flesh (or whatever hue it is, exactly - there are so many mid-range brownish colors that I lose track...) building, especially the half-arch covering part of a window. It is really not bad, though, and I think when put in context of all of the other builds it should fit right in; it just is not as nice as the tan half. Perhaps it lacks as definite of a style and seems unsure exactly what kind of building it wants to be, or perhaps it is the asymmetry of the arches on its front. Either way, I like the build and am glad to see the city growing!
  15. Thanks, I like it too. It was something our whole group did. Of course, I stole the idea from you! The fence I am sure I stole from someone else, too, though I could not tell who it was. Glad you like it! It is true, it is not like I am building on the sandy dust plains of Kali... My problem is that it takes me a while to finish anything, so they sit for a while in my basement. I am glad you like the rest of it, though, and copy away! Thanks! I'll be putting together a tutorial on the roof, actually, so everyone can see how chaotic the interiors of my builds are and how lucky I am that anything stays together... Thanks, I was going for a different vibe than normal. I had the rest built but felt like I needed something more, so I spent several hours tinkering with a ton of little brown bits trying to make a cart or wheelbarrow that I liked. I am pretty happy with this one. Thanks, Narb! As I said earlier, I don't think I invented the fence design, so borrow it freely! It is a bit busy, but then again, I was attempting to convey a sense of a lively scene, especially the chaotic convergence of many different parties, all at the front of the build. The roof was a bunch of failed attempts to do something with the cottage I had built, and I had settled on a curve, which made things difficult. But I think it turned out pretty ok myself. Thanks, Grover. I happen to really like the trans-light blue for water (it is something I use in builds a lot) but I can see where you are coming from. And this is a rare variant on the sheep, one that has horns... It is an Avalonian specialty... Just kidding, they are probably goats (you can make parchment from sheep, goats, or calves - I am not differentiating between vellum and parchment, since no one can tell the difference, even in the past) and not sheep, but I like saying shepherd more than goatherd, so there we are... Thanks, ZG! TM said he was trying for some NPU and I decided I should experiment on something unique, too, so I came up with the barrow. Thanks! I am glad you like the roof.
  16. Love these figs, very nice collection you have put together here. I wish I had some more Chima faces myself, so that I could have a nice catfolk (or other animal) clan. I have only a few, though. Each vignette does a very nice job of illustrating the character of the fig in it. I especially like how the last (Kass) has some boards loose, like his lifestyle.
  17. Some nice vegetation you have there, ZG! Too bad you left such lush environs for a chance to be stabbed in the back... I enjoy the way you made the shrine so overgrown, and appreciate the cheese-mosaic in particular. The tails/horns make for nice elvish elements, though I am less fond of the ones coming from the top than the ones supporting the gem. I think the river might be my favorite detail here, though. That and the map made from the hide of one of my sheep!
  18. Nice build! I appreciate the cartoony vibe of the sand, since I am sure somewhere in all the sands of Kaliphlin there really is an area that looks like that. Looking forward to seeing what else you can build and how the story progresses!
  19. Nice job on the terrain, it really does look better than the terrain on your larger build, but that is probably due at least in part to having a much smaller footprint to fill. The greens are nicely mixed without feeling jumbled, and the foliage is enough to give an idea of good growth. A good little build!
  20. Very nice first build, Lord Buckethead! I like the way the roof is sloping over the entrance there, and the different levels of the house imply grandeur. One thing that I find a bit odd is that the door knobs are so high off the ground (a minifig would need a ladder to use them) while the ground-floor windows are so low to the ground. It creates an odd sense of scale to have them like that, I think. The windows themselves are a creative approach to stained glass, though, and I love your minifigs! I look forward to seeing more.
  21. Avalonian Traffic Jam A freebuild for Avalonia Poor Joffir the shepherd always longed to stay awhile and chat with Bellia, Farmer Chereo's daughter, but whenever he did so, a long pile-up of sheep and farmers ensued along the narrow country road. That, and Strellia, Bellia's mother, was always watching carefully, ensuring that nothing funny happened between her beautiful daughter and the homely and smelly shepherd. It's a hard life being a stinky shepherd. But at least he has his sheep. More pictures: __________________________________________________ .................................................................................................... A build for the Group Collaboration category of the 2018 Summer Joust, together with @TitusV, @ZlatanXVIGustaf, and @The Maestro. Our industry was parchment (or vellum, in a non-technical way), and I got the living sheep part of the gig. They'll probably post their parts soon enough, I would think. C&C welcome, as usual. The pictures probably would have looked better against a grey background rather than white, but as a group we were all using the white background, so the sheep horns got lost. Oh, and I totally stole the sheep design from @TheLordOfBricks, inspired by this build.
  22. @Lord Buckethead, welcome to the Guilds! While you did not choose the best Guild of all, we are still happy to have you. And not having your sigfig be the head of the family is for his (or her) own safety. Heads of families in Varlyrio apparently have a really bad habit of dying of various diseases, like dagger-in-the-backpox, or sometimes poisonitis.
  23. I really like that pipe organ, with some clever usage on the keys. I think the desk would look better with a 1x1 square plate rather than a 1x1 round plate, though, to hold the map on, since it would leave less of a gap in the edge of the desk. Still, a very nice little vignette, and I look forward to seeing the rest of the family, as well as all of their exploits!
  24. Excellent! Can we get a picture of Princess Rhiannon to put in the first post?
