I'm not so sure about this....I have a 10 year old daughter who got me into harry Potter. She has a group of friends who are all obssessed with Harry Potter. She's actually the one who got me into it. I had never read the books or saw the movies until she read them. I then started to read them and we have watched some of the moves together (I'm currently on the fifth book so go easy with talking about hopes of future sets that might spoil the end of the series.

So I'm a bit of a math geek, so yesterday I was looking up previous sets box sizes and weights. I extrapolated all the data I came up with and based by a piece per weight and a piece per volume of box, It would probably be around 5500 pieces. The closest existing set I could find is the Taj Mahal which is one inch in length smaller and Identical in weight. It has about 6000 pieces. I imagine the pieces would be relatively small pieces, which are usually cheaper to produce so the number could be much higher (6500 maybe?) . Purely speculation on my part.

Any chance this set gets similar treatment to the Milennium Falcon with the special VIP card?

Some sets aren't designed for play. That is why they make playsets based on specific areas. For instance, a minifig scale helicarrier would not be feasable, so they created the hulk set which recreated a portion of the helicarrier. Also, you have the entire architecture series, the creator Big Ben and Tower bridge sets that are not minifig scale, they are display pieces. It's not like this is a new idea.

I know a lot people are upset about this being microscale, but I am not one of them We can get playability, cool features, etc from regular sets (Great Hall, Whomping Willow, etc) but the likely hood of getting a decent looking replica of teh entire Hogwarts in one set is impossible. It would dwarf the latest falcon, and would have to be tens of thousands of bricks. At least this way we get one cohesive Hogwarts, hopefully built into the mountains (something you would never get in the playsets) and hopefully, possiibilty for the chamber, and room for the grounds including stadium, Hagrid's hut, etc. Can't wait to see it!!!!!

I was basing it off what bricklink said for the size 58 x 48x 19 . Maybe it (bricklink) was referring to the completed set size.

I doubt they do this. From a marketing standpoint, they would want to give the sets they are about to release a chance to get off the shelves. If they released it before the first wave went on sale, you have the chance of people deciding to buy one or the other. If you wait a while, people will buy the initial sets before they are presented with the option. Also, the joker manor which came out around thanksgiving was announced in late September. I would assume this will follow a similar pattern.

Belle used hinge pieces in her hair. I also think Hulk and Thanos used them for the hands

Lego intentionally waits until after Christmas to increase sales. If new sets come out December 1, those are the sets that get bought for kids for Christmas. If new sets come out January 1, the sell lots of September releases in December, and then people buy the new January releases once they come out. They essentially make it so people who want January releases, buy something else for Christmas and buy the new sets as well when they are released.

I’m close enough to a lego store and discovery center I’ll be able to get one. So you know what it is? Please just tell me it isn’t a brickhead Geoffrey. The insistence on it being a TRU exclusive has me worried after the last Geoffrey set LEGO made.

It is a bummer that we get the same minifigs in this set, but it should be expected to get a lot of Harry Potter minifigs, as he is the title character. It is just like the Lego Batman Movie sets, in which 20 of the 24 sets included Batman with only 4 variants (only facial expressions were different, the torso, legs and cowl were all the same). In the end these are toys made for kids (granted there is a growing number of sets that are targeting AFOLs), and kids want a Batman, or a Harry when they are playing. As an AFOL these sets need to be appreciated for what they includes for builds and non Harry minifigs, and just accept the Harry minifig as an bonus piece that you get.

so will it be available through The Lego stores and shop@home, or are we SOL on this one.

going to go out on a limb and guess that this set is not a TRU exclusive

I was trying to figure out what the 1x1 brick/plates mean before a topic. It seems to only address a couple of them, but not the ones that are a different color stack of 1x1 plates. Where can I find that information?

It appears to use the regular train wheels so I assume it would fit on tracks The box art does not offer up any indication that it is compatible with a power function like it did for the Christmas train or other trains, so it would have to be all on you to mod it (no extra instructions in the book to help you). Also the tinder car appears to be too small to fit a battery pack do that would definitely need to be lengthened to make it work.

I’ll take your word for it because I can’t make out the rounded end. But it does look like the printing on the body is a sticker (I think I see the edge of the sicker).
