  1. the dark blue bricks were donated from a company who wished to remain anonymous they could only get 2x2s 1x2s 1x4s 1x1s due to the rarity of the pieces, which made it very fragile so the inside had to be doubled up enough to hold it together, hence the 10,000 pcs normally you would expect less than half, then the plates which are also rare to find.needless to say my fiancee was busy on bricklink for days on end,the deck tan/black plates around 4500 of each colour,it just eats them up.
  2. this was constructed in 1941 and was originally painted dark grey then a year later it was redone in white and red.the lower control station was supposedly constructed to direct operations until the tower (water tank) was finished and a farther control station put at the top. this was my first try at a building, made a change from ships, one of these things were you just want to keep adding to but dont have the space Art Deco kind of styling the up and over doors were a challenge but the work and take up much of the floor above the tower itself is about 3 1/2 to 4 ft tall there is a basement at the rear of the building so ground level had to be 2/3 bricks high and the double garage at the front is lower than ground level also looking up from the second floor control tower now for the rest of pearl harbour LOL.
  3. when the Missouri was in the papers last year Bob Downie CEO of the RYBritannia seen it and emailed asking to build the Britannia,at first it was just a 4 ft model he was after but once he came here and seen them in real life he decided it would be better in minifig.it came out better than what i had hoped for..half built my fiancee commented (my best critique) that it would look good with lights so thats why it has lighting inside,
  4. that is impressive on a massive scale, just one of these buildings is an artform in itself nevermind the square etc, attention to detail second to none.
  5. beautiful work.like the truck (i always struggle with these)windows ,doors etc outstanding, one question fow do youy get the 2x1 tile on 3 corners like you have
  6. pearl harbour control tower if i had the space i would build Ford Island (pearl harbour)
  7. the anchor chains are non lego parts,i tried making some but to no avail, the lego chains are too small for this so improvisation was called for you can just see them in this pic,as you can see the Arizona which brought the USA into WW2 so only fitting to build the Missouri which brought WW2 to an end with the Japanese surrender
  8. yes your right only reason for it is the expense of using pure lego pieces,i buy all the bricks etc no sponsors etc.its amazing how a lot of people frown upon a brick that looks the same, the exact same size and colour but doesnt have the lego logo on the studs which nine times out of ten is covered over with a tile.maybe this will get me banned off here but i find folk who bring up the name of a brick are quite jealous of the MOC when that is all they can say about it !!!!!!
  9. As a few have asked about the carrier in the background of the Arizona here it is.It was built from as a Heavy Cruiser then converted later on.although never actually finished and very few photos, plans etc to go by,this is pretty close to how she would be (i hope anyway) in need of a few alterations bulges on the sides are not really big enough and the AA guns need rebuilding, have since rebuilt some planes but they take some amount of pieces compared to these ones, 17ft long working elavator although it struggles when a plane is on aichi divebomber early version later ones are much better superstructure is based on the Unryu Class the Battleship in the background is the IJN Fuso sloping side exhaust was a Japanese trademark on most of their carriers as was the radio masts which were lowered when launching aircraft the sides of the hangar deck were full of air vents and supports for the many AA gun pods markings on the flight deck was apparently so the pilots would recognize their carriers so as not to land on the wrong one finally every Japanese capital ship had a gold chrysanthemum on the bow new version of a Zero fighter plane (about 20 more to make now)
  10. i think at the time that was the best arrangement for weight armour etc, have to say i was not keen on the IOWA class until i started building this then it seems to grow on you, nicest sleekest Battleship has to be the Yamato which hopefully when my next MOC is done i will start on that, interesting to see a Yamato and an Iowa dide by side in minifig and the Saratoga(half built) inbetween.Japanese WW2 ships are quite interesting in how they had to improvise with what they had,I have a 18ft Fuso which i will post also a 17ft Takao.
  11. I built this one about 5 year ago, after seeing a documentary on the history channel and thought it would be nice to build in memory of those lost aboard her on that fateful day. around 17 ft long built after the major refit she had and was like this at Pearl Harbor not quite aswell built as the Missouri (in need of a rebuild decks etc) but still looks good
  12. It took 2 months to build (including dismantling 3 times to get every aspect right for the customer,it was built as it was in its day then we decided to add the tearoom which made a massive improvement to the overall look) and a day to set up in the display case
  13. Here is the Royal Yacht I was asked to build for the RYB Edinburgh.very enjoyable to build when you have an endless supply of bricks.and a change from the usual grey bricks i normally use.finished it measures 11 ft x 18 inches, approx 30,000 pcs plus another 30,000 1x1 trans clear blue for the water effect, 10,000 dark blue make up the hull boat davits all work like their supposed to this is the tearoom which was added after she was retired to a floating museum, plenty gold finishes it off nicely, added extra finished off with a good few thousand tiles to give it a smooth appearance, and dark brown for the wooden handrail around the hull.the roof of the tea room has over 600 white tiles. on display in the RYB visitors centre in Leith
  14. how about an Arizona or a Fuso
  15. thanks for that i made sure it would be in view at the time, was featured on ITV this morning tv show last year in the UK
  16. not sure if this is the right category but as its minifig i would class it as lego town if you can build a harbour big enough to get it in.just under 25ft long it took 3 years to complete and a few hundred thousand pieces, started in early 2012 and completed late 2014 the wee tugs are about 2 ft long the gun turrets come in at 3.5 kg each. it took about 5 hrs to set up like this
  17. very nice job on this, some pics on how its put together would be good, nice touch with the sails,
  18. love this MOC which just keeps getting bigger every year, cant wait to see more getting added to it,(is this Nate Flood) from MOC pages
  19. really beautiful ship, seen this on google and is the main reason i joined eurobricks ,love this build but they are so hard to get right, may i ask what scale you built this in,
  20. really nice lines on this, the stern is amazing, sure i have seen this on google with sails
  21. thanks for the comments guys,i never built this expecting it to be the longest, anyone can simply add a foot here and there but to keep it to minifig scale it comes out at this size, although my next one could very well take the title LOL.All i can say is it has the right amount of windows in the bridge (someones has 4 missing) the angles on the conning towers are correct and not simply vertical,
  22. some serious work there.your models are excellent so realistic looking ,your success is well deserved, keep up the great work,
  23. beautiful ship, especially like the detailing on the masts, one part of most ships that is so often overlooked, getting the bow is a nightmare to get right,i am building the Trincomalee which i think is one of the many sisterships to the Surprise.as far as i know the replica Surprise(master and commander) is some 35ft longer than the original which might account for the different bow on the plans to the photo of the replica,i am working of the frigate Diana plans which is supposed to be another sistership
  24. hi there i have been building since the age of 5 .40 plus years later still at it,some of my MOCs are USS Missouri (24 1/2 ft ) my biggest so far R Y Britannia (11 ft) to name a few not sure if you can see the pic or not
