  1. I Love this one. I've made Dog Armies similar to your pig soldiers, but the Cow Mech is the part I really like. Lego has been doing a lot of mechs with feet like that, but I think you did it much better than they do.
  2. I agree it's very cool. It reminds me a bit of Primeval, but then again, I haven't seen torchwood.
  3. Before (more or less, I had to take new pics) After From Left ti right we have Quiver, Belladonna, Mr. Tarnish and The Tacomancer
  4. Number: 1711 or 1731 or 3014 (1711 is a polybag and 1731 is a box) Name: Snow Scooter Theme: Space Subtheme: Ice Planet 2002 Year: 1994 (wait...why is it called ice planet 2002?) Minifigs: 1 Pieces: 18 Price: $2 US (as 1711) unknown (as 1731 or 3014) Parts This is a classic "Stuff on a 2xX plate" set. But I also have a copy of 6879 "Blizzard Baron" to review at a later date, and I noticed that most of the parts are interchangable. With as little more research, I found that all of the parts on this set are used in other ice planet sets EXCEPT the white plate 1x1 with clip. It might be best to think of this as a service pack. I should also mention I love the lack of wheels. People I appreciate the way the colors match the vehicle and the ice planet logo is cool. Printed head is nice as well. Build: Man it's hard to discuss such a small build. It's stuff on a plate. The use of the wedge plate to make a depression for the cockpit is OK. I couldn't build any better given the parts limitations. Conclusion Parts: 9/10 I think this set needs a printed slope for a nosecone and a chainsaw body. This would improve the build and it's use as a service pack. But the parts that are here are very satisfactory. Also, notice how the standard colors look "cold" without making a new color just for a 2 year them. Minifig: 10/10 Build: 9/10 Playability: 9/10 I'm glad he has tools and a swishable vehicle. he just doesn't have anything to do with the tools. It would be hard to get 10/10 with a set this side. Price: 9./10 Overall: 92%
  5. Number: 2162 Name: Hydro Reef Wrecker Theme: Aquazone Subtheme: Aquaraiders Year: 1997 Minifigs: 2 Pieces: 279 Price: $40 (US) Parts As you can see there's no end to the goodies in here. Octopus, shark, rare plants, octagonal pipes and lots & lots of green. Theres also some yellow and blue in here (more on that later) People Ok, these are awesome. Hook hand? check. Two part Helmets? Check. Chrome Daggers? Check. Lets look under those helmets. Well look at this unnecessary awesomeness! Two different torso prints! Considering they spend most of their time covered up this is really unecessary....and awesome. The head prints are cool too. To be picky with the identical hair cover, they look like a father son team (I'm going to call them Ron and Mr. Weasley from now on) I guess if I was designing them, I'd prefer for the legs and arms to match more, but that's just being picky. Build The vehicle is divided into a submarine and a pickup truck. No really it is. Fine, I'll just show you. The instructions have us start with the sub, but I'll show the pickup truck part first. Here it is halfway built. The large black plates are going to be the bed of the truck and the green outline is going to be the cab. It's also important to note that the blue parts are almost completely hidden in the final build. I think TLG did this to make parts easier to see on the instructions, since this was before numbered polybags. Also There are no mini parts lists in the instructions. One more thing. See that round thing? It's a lego compass. It works. I'm not kidding, take that Jack Sparrow! A working lego compass! 3/4 done. Sheesh, I really should have washed these parts before reassembly. We see some of the weaker points of this build now. The final has three....drills?...in the front. These two can't actually touch anything. Perhaps they are meant to be interchangable drill bits. Also it has extendable wings. I have no idea why. Perhaps Mr. Weasley enchated it to fly. Also the truck bed would be an ideal place to store one of sea animals, but they don't fit. (OK, I could fit the octopus by bending it, but who wants to damage a rare part like that? The instructions tell us to store crystals and spare harpoons here, but there are 2x2x2 containers on the back. Here's the truck part completed. Now about Ron's sub. Again, the blue parts are hidden in teh final build, but very visible here. I'm not sure how to feel about those big green pieces. They look cool, but are bulky and difficult to use in other ways. I know I had a lot of comments about the truck, but the sub part is much better. The nose makes it look fast, and the four props make it look functional. It looks like it can gor forward or backwards and turn on a dime. This also means that, unlike other detachable vehicles, it still has a propulsion system when detached. One minor complaint is that Ron's swim fins are on the ends of the wings. It's an awkward place to put them, but they are such a minor detail, it's not going to effect the score. Here they are attached together. Not that Ron's sub is covering Mr. Weasley's truck bed, so there's still room in the compartment for tools and crystals. MVP (Most valued piece) Propellor housing! It looks great with a propellor and I can imagine using it two of them end to end in a scifi setting or one as a large torch for castle. Conclusion Parts:10/10 I usually hate the plastic wheels, but in green I see potential as using them for bushes or tree tops. People: 10/10 Build: 9/10 Mr. Weasley's truck need a little work. Playability: 10/10 Truck rolls and has compartments. Ron's sub is swishable and so solid it's almost thowable. The addition of sea creatures is very welocme. Price: 7/10 fourteen cents per part....well, at least they're good parts. Honsetly, I don't think I'd buy it at regular price. Overall 92%
  6. @ lightnign tiger: Yeah myphotography needs imrovement, but I prefer natural lighting (and shadows) than the grainyness of artificial light, and I'd rather buy bricks than a lighting system. @mr copperhead: I got these at a target in the St Valentines section. Happy hunting! @ daisy: I might go to brickworld this year. Wanna trade the plates for Emmas?
  7. Number: 6829 Name: Radon Rover Theme: Space Subtheme: UFO Year: 1997 Minifigs: 1 Pieces: 52 Price: $6.00 (US) Pieces MMM.....light grey and black with red and trans-neon-green as an accent color....also some red. I like that the light grey matches the classic space, and I can imagine the two collections merging very well. The red seems a little out of place, but who cares. The color scheme also helps to highlight the minifig. Speaking of which... People Cool guy huh? However, when I first saw him, I assumed someone had dabbed light blue pait on his face. This is one of those rare circumstances where my photography actually makes it look better. The printing nice, especially leg printing, but it looks more muddled in real life. Also notice the lack of headpiece or back piece.....or weapon. Alltogether this is a very plane minifig compared to other space lines. Build It's nice to see a unique chassis in such a small set. In the end I'd prefer, technic bricks and pins as opposed to 2x2 bricks with pin and 2x4 brick with pins, but it helps keep the parts count low. And her is the complete vehicle! I can't say enough nice things about this. It's sturdy and the antenae on top look great. There's no controls for the minifig, but considering he's a robot he probably just plugs into the controls. MVP (Most valuable piece) Wing 8 x 4 - 2 x 3 & 1/3 Up This set has two printed versions of this piece and one non printed version. It's large, but not <insert that tiresome argument>, and can be used as a wing, a strut or a bunker wall. The only problem is that there's only three. I wouldn't mind having this piece make a comeback. Conclusion Parts: 10/10 I could fuss more about the colors, but everything here is usefull, and the decorative peices come in multiples. Minifig 6/10 3 parts, overly buisy printing, that doesn't look like anything, and a head that looks like someone defaced it with paint. Build: 10/10 I have a hard time complaining about this. Even the wheels are well used. Playability: 8/10 It rolls, and the antenae and windscreen move. There is an extra printed tile that the minifig can search for and place in the 2x2x2 container on the vehicle. Extra tools for the minifig would be appreciated. Price 8.7/10 I don't think this score does it justice. The wings really make it into a large set for $6 Overall 86% If this were in production I'd buy a lot of them for parts.....and then use brickforge to make the minifigs cooler.
  8. Number: 30106 Name: Ice Cream Stand Theme: Friends Subtheme: Holiday Year: 2013 Minifigs: 1 Minidoll Pieces: 34 Price: $3.99 (US) I've allways liked the St. Valentines day polybags. They have interesting pieces, and are great for getting my coworkers daughters addicted to legos, so when I found this, I had to buy three. How about the parts? Ok, Tan, awesome. White, Great. Wheels, meh. But you know it's bad when I can't complain about the pink because of the Light Aqua. I despise new colors, mainly because it's hard to collect enough to build anything with it. I'm ok with medium blue, but while researching this I find that Freinds has not just medium blue, but also medium azure and this light aqua. I honestly think this is a mistake. TLG should stick to just one shade of blue in the freinds line to prevent the "Rainbow Warriors" effect. Also, even though I don't like new colors, I Have to say this is the worst color I've ever seen. Fortunatelly they are 2x6 plates, and therefore easy enough to substitute. Ok enough about that. The pink is acceptable. I'd prefer pink and white or even better white and either blue or red, but let's be honest, I'm not the target audience here. Also as I said before the tan and white parts are great, the popsicle is interesting, and the ice cream cone is looking for more attention. (More on that later) Oh yeah, here are the extra parts. Nothing to get excited about, but usefull if a kid looses a piece. People Emma here has appeared in sets before. Even in this exact outfit, but it is a good way to get this minidoll. The shoes and top match, and the skirt goes well with the outfit without it matching too much. Here is a view of the back of her hair. She has two spots for hair accessories, but I don't have any accessories for her. Build This is a large version of "stuff on a 2 by X plate" that you often get with small sets, but it is effective at being unusual (in that it's not a vehicle) and has a lot of detail. The brown and pink can represent two compartments of ice cream. I still don't know where the popsicles are stored, but since they seem to be Ninjago Vemomari flavored, perhaps it's just for display. Also the finished cart looks like something from Mary Poppins or another idealized turn of the century movie. MVP (Most valued piece) The Ice cream cone! This was a difficult decision. I've never had this ir the popsicle before, so both are interesting as decorative pieces. The window panels are nice too. In the end the potential of the ice cream cone is what made it stand out over two other worthy pieces. You might be asking, "but how does it look with the ice cream piece from other sets?" It looks like this...ok. Now you might be asking, "but can you make a flower from three of them? Yes, if you use pieces from other sets. Conclusion Parts 8/10 Very tricky to rate. Great parts weighed down by bad colors. Without the aqua it would be 9/10 Minifig 9/10 This minidolll is available in another polybag. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing spectacular. Build 10/10 Any improvements I could make to this set would also make it larger Playability 9/10 It rolls, Emma can be customer or vendor. I'm sure it works well with other minidolls Price 8.5/10 Actually this is pretty good for a freinds set. If they go clearance, I'll buy more. Overall 89%
  9. Number: 6509/1477 Name: Red Racer/Red Race car Number 3 Theme: Classic Town Subtheme: Race Year: 1991 Minifigs: 1 Pieces: 34 Price: Unknown Ah, 1991, back when impulse buys were in boxes instead of in polybags. I recently acquired a coworkers lego collection, and I thought I'd review some of the sets I was able to recreate from a combination of our collections. Parts As you can see, there aren't a lot of special pieces by todays standard, but the finger hinges are always welcome. Its a good collection of usable bricks in two standard colors. I'm a little annoyed at the vehicle base, but it's still a good pallette. Be aware, I had to substitute white pieces for red with the 2x3 plate and one of the hinge pieces. People This minifig is sort of a classic. It may not be as beloved as the classic space torso, but I bet a lot of us have a few of these in our collection. The helmet looks out of place, and the white legs seem to be a little washed out, but it does look like a race car driver. Too bad he's driving a go cart. Design As you can see, the vehicle base is at least used correctly, with the depresion used for the seat of the driver. The jumper plates on the back are a nice touch, adding to the intrest of the build and the usability of the parts. I imagine if this was designed today, they would use cheese slopes instead of panels, but it is still effective parts use. MVP (Most valued Piece) Slope Brick 33 3 x 2 with Number 3 Pattern. In a small set like this there is usually one outstanding piece. Allthough the engine piece is rather nice, I'm nominating this piece. Mainly because it was very possible for a kid to collect multiples of this piece. It was in seven or nine sets (The counte gets confusing) and many of those sets are rather small. It's also one of those decorated pieces that would be home in space or town. Conclusion Parts: 9/10: I'd prefer plates to a vehicle base Minifigs: 8/10: I'd prefer different legs, and although nonstandard heads were rare at this time, they were available. Build: 10/10: It uses the most of what it had. Playability: 8/10: By itself it rolls. It was really meant more as a suplimental set for the other race sets. Price: Unknown...for me it was 11/10 'cause I got it for free, but that isn't really accurate. Overall: 87%
  10. I think what you are trying to say is that having two copies of each set would help you to play heroica in a way similar to other role playing games. One set is "public" and the players can see only the terrrain and what is in view of the characters. The other copy is hidden behind a screen and only the dungeon master can see everything. Hmm, I like it. Beyond just liking it, you could also take it a step further and have MOST of the terrain hidden as well. The characters have to move to look around a corner before they can see what is actually there. Strangelly enough, I do have two copies of most of the heroica games, and I think that most fans do as well, just for extra parts. So I think your idea has more merrit than you give it credit for.
  11. OK, I forgot saturday, and I'm not going to have access tomorrow, so here's the last three. Ahem, hem.... "On the twelvth day of nocturnmus, my tyrant gave to me..... twelve zombies rising..... Eleven opera organs piping... Ten Chests a chompin' Nine Dragons Burning, Eight claws a clickin', seven squids a sinkin', Six heroes huning, five hydra heads, Four fighting bears, three werewolves, two troll shrines and a giant man eating tree!"
  12. "On the ninth day of nocturnmas, my tyrant gave to me..... Nine Dragons Burning, Eight claws a clickin', seven squids a sinkin', Six heroes huning, five hydra heads, Four fighting bears, three werewolves, two troll shrines and a giant man eating tree!"
  13. On the 8th day of Nocturnmas my tyrant gave to me.... Eight claws a clickin' seven squids a sinkin', Six heroes huning, five hydra heads, Four fighting bears, three werewolves, two troll shrines and a giant man eating tree!"
  14. They look like weasleys! Great use of a claustrophobic forest asa setting and staggering the minis to make it feel more organic and less bricky
  15. "On the 7th day of Nocturnmas my tyrant gave to me....Seven Squids a sinkin' Six heroes huning, five hydra heads, Four fighting bears, three werewolves, two troll shrines and a giant man eating tree!"
  16. I feel like every time I look at this I see another NPU Check out the lamps. Spiral whips and hex wrenches, and the use of tan hands on the bakers cart.
  17. "On the sixth day of nocturnmas, my tyrant gave to me... Six Heroes hunting, Five Hydra Heads! Four fighting bears, three werewolves, two troll shrines and a giant man eating tree!"
  18. Those are inspiring!
  19. "On the fourth day of Nocturnmas, my tyrant gave to me... Four fighting bears.... Three werewolves, two troll shrines and a giant man eating tree."
  20. My TRU has minotaurus for 9.99, so if you want a $10 baseplate with a bunch of lime bricks for free....... crap, I think Ijust talked myself into buying a bunch of them.
  21. So I better appologize. After work yesterday I was too tired to go to the library to use the computer. I thought this might happen eventually, but I wan't expecting it yesterday. So Here are two builds. "On the third day of nocturnmas, my tyrant gave to me... Three Werewolves, Two troll Shrines, And a giant man eating tree."
  22. Dang Booby toy, you beat me to it! I did almost the exact same thing! Anyway, I've only seen 30% off so far, but from the setup it looks like Target is official clearance toy mode, so it's worth checking every couple of days or so. I did see Star wars planets and the joker for clearance as well, but of course that isn't BOGO
  23. I think it's these... http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=47576
  24. Um, How about now? "On the First day of Nocturnmas my Tyrant gave to me, A giant man eating tree....."
  25. I am loving this. It reminds me so much of Redline (an anime)
