Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Alegrispa replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
I am a little bummed that there's no Kingdom of the Crystal Skull set. I get that it's the black sheep of the series, but I never thought it was that bad. On par with Temple of Doom for me. And it had some pretty fantastic sets back in 2008. -
Oh man, that's awesome! I also like where you placed your Smaug.

Dope. Have you posted pics anywhere?

I'm aware price per piece is a hotly debated topic, but when it comes to piece/price ratio this new set has ~3 times as many pieces and costs ~3 times as much. I don't really see inflation as the issue with this, just overkill on the level of detail (judging by the amount of pieces), which also drives the price up. What I (and I assume THELEGOBATMAN are/)am saying is that it's needlessly 150€ when a smaller set would've sufficed and also been more accessible to more people price wise. Really hoping the set isn't an exclusive and I can find it discounted somewhere a couple months after release. There's also a new leak, more detailed descriptions of the sets. I'm guessing we'll see pictures any day now. -

Totally agree. The original set cost less than half and it still holds up design wise (imo). There's definitely gonna be a ton of small pieces adding a lot of detail, but again, the original set gets the point across without them. I could see a more modernised set pushing 100€, but 150€ is definitely overdoing it. Maybe if they include some elaborate hidden functions and/or mechanisms, that could be neat, but it really just seems like they're trying to squeeze as much money as possible from the most iconic scene in the series. -
I've finally seen the movie. Hot f***ing damn. What a fantastic film. I expected it to look pretty good, but I didn't expect to not question the reality of this movie for a second. The high fps were a little jarring, but otherwise imo this is the greatest looking movie ever. I wasn't a big fan before, but I sure as hell am now. This is probably how people felt after seeing the first one in 2009. Little short on cash rn, but the next LEGO sets I'm gonna get are Way of Water sets. Seriously considering getting multiple Ilu. Still not a fan of the Na'vi figures, but they're not my main reason for wanting these sets. Though now I am a little bummed the sets don't seem to sell very well. There isn't really anything more from this movie (or the first one) I'd like a set of, but I hope there will at least be another wave of sets for the third movie next year.

Man, that would suck. I was pretty close to buying the old idol piece on bricklink for 15 bucks last year, but it sold and I'm now to afraid to look up for how much it goes. -

Oh, hell yeah, official confirmation and rumour of the €150-€170 set being a Temple Escape Diorama. Raiders is my favourite Indy movie so I'm pumped if the biggest set is based on it. -
I get ya. It's called "brand recognition". It'd be silly not to include it.
-
Lol, c'mon dude. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

My bad, I was under the impression it was one of those shows that just came and went because no one really cared for it. I just didn't see a lot of it on my timelines. And the little I saw was about how some whiny YouTubers are losing their minds because it portrays Galadriel as a skilled fighter or something along those lines, but otherwise I've seen no strong opinions about it either way. That's a good point, but again, the first season of the show is already out and the second likely won't release until next year. Avatar sets released around the new movie, and the Indiana Jones sets are also set to release around the new movie. Back in 2021 I was really hoping they'd bring back LotR alongside the show, but the fact that that didn't happen has me doubting the return of a full theme. But I'd also liked to be surprised. maybe they're gearing up for the release of the second season, maybe they just couldn't get ready in time for last year.

They do bring back licenses when new media releases, but this decision was obviously more influenced by the Amazon series, even if it's not made by WB. LEGO even mentions it on the website. That doesn't mean I'm expecting sets based on the show. It's like when Fantastic Beasts released and they just used the opportunity of Harry Potter being back on everyone's minds to bring back the theme as well. I mean, sure there was one Fantastic Beasts set, but I remember that staying on shelves and they didn't try again. But I also imagine the fact that Rings of Power simply wasn't received well by fans and critics, and that it wasn't getting nearly the viewership Amazon hoped for also influences LEGO to some degree. Rings of Power came and went. No one seems to want more of it, or Lord of the Rings media in general. It's not like Marvel, or Star Wars, or even Harry Potter where a ton of people are always clamouring up for more. Yes, fans are curious about the new movie, and anime has become a lot more mainstream over the past decade, but that movie ain't gonna be pulling numbers. I don't wanna be a downer y'all. But at this point I'm really not expecting more than the Brickheadz (which are an extremely niche product and I assume the people at LEGO are aware of that) and the D2C set. We could get more if the D2C is gonna sell well, or if it doesn't sell terribly and some people at the company will be pushing for more. LEGO is in a position where they can have sets and themes and designer's vanity projects on shelves that sell poorly without taking a big risk. So at least there's that.
-
Not crazy, just entirely unlikely. It's an anime prequel movie based in Peter Jacksons version of Middle Earth focusing on war between Men. I mean, c'mon. Do you actually believe they got the license back for that?

You're taking some far jumps there. But regarding that question, if it came down to it the smarter choice for LEGO would probably be to go with DnD. I'm not into table top games myself, but the market is huge and they've tried to get a piece of it before with Heroica. Actually working with the DnD license makes it a lot easier to break into the community. Personally I'd prefer LotR, but as I've said before, it's not in the Zeitgeist right now, not in a way that sells toys. (Not that I think it will come down to it. The Ideas DnD set definitely seems like more of a test run for a potential theme, and besides the Brickheadz and the D2C, we simply don't have any idea what the current plans for LotR are)
-
Ha, totally! Seriously folks. The only message LEGO would get by all of us buying those ugly sets would be "We want more Brickheadz!"
-
From the first wave I'd have to say the Banshees. And I love all the sets from the second wave, except for the Reef Home, but I'm feeling a little biased towards the whale because I love whales.

Again, I don't have particularly strong feelings about Avatar either way, I'm just sick of the constant needless negativity. I don't go into the Harry Potter thread and reiterate over and over again about how much I dislike the franchise, but that seems to be okay here?
-
Exactly. LotR unfortunately just isn't in the Zeitgeist among kids. Doesn't mean it won't ever be again, just right now it's not even remotely on the same radar as all those other franchises. I agree it would definitely be a lot more popular, but those aren't really the best things to compare it to. The Muppets CMF was pretty limited and likely intended as a one off, the Avatar sets are mostly just sitting on shelves (though the new movie could still turn that around, but I could easily see it being massively successful without pushing much merchandise, pretty much the same was it was with the first movie), and the Queer Eye set was clearly just a fanboy project pushed by the VP of design, which barely sold, even at a huge discount directly from LEGO.
-
Man, that would be the dream. If that were the last CMF ever, I wouldn't even mind.
-
"fanboying" lol. I'm just sick of all the needless s*italking. Goodbye, thanks for your contribution to this thread. If I want stuff as valuable as "Dances with Space Smurfs 3: the Musical" I'll go to pretty much every other place on the internet. Come back any time! Back to topic. I really wish more channels with higher production quality would review these sets.

Truth is, sometimes characters and even story don't matter. Sometimes, it's about the experience. And it's low-key pretty snobbish to think otherwise. Look at Top Gun: Maverick. Biggest movie of the year, massive praise for being an amazing movie, but does anyone actually care about the characters or story? Or look at the Mission Impossible movies, do most people really care what happens to Tom Cruises character? No, most people just wanna see what bats*hit-crazy stunts he pulls next. Back in 2009 people who went to see Avatar over and over again didn't go back for the romance, they go come back for the environmental message, they went back to see the pictures. Movies are about spectacle at their core. And James Cameron gets that, which is why over and over he proved that you don't bet against him. (Sorry for getting into this, I'm just sick of people saying the same stuff over and over. It's like a terrible song you hear on repeat, just drives ya outta ya pants. Also I've been awake for 20 hours.) You share the same opinions of a lot of loud people on the internet. You're not saying anything that hasn't been beaten out of that foul, rotting horse years ago. Sharing the same, weirdly antagonistic tone towards anything positive said about these movies.
-
I genuinely hope you're not being serious. Absolute clown behaviour to judge a director after their worst movie. Especially if it was just some 80s schlock. Ah, yes, because people famously spend 12 years and hundreds of millions on "blatant money grabs". Get outta heeere.
-
So, reviews for the movie seem to be pretty great. I wonder if this gamble will pay off for LEGO after all.
