Cutting panels (heresy)
technic_addict replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not sure how I feel about this but a build I am doing requires a specific color which has a couple panels missing. Can you describe how you did this? Specifically the very clean cut and no file marks. -
Here is my version of your Greyhound. I had to redesign in a few places to accommodate the yellow (or lack of) pieces. It is just as solid so no worries there. I just realized one of the mirrors is rotated out of position Pics are not the best but I don't have time to do my normal set up. I haven't driven it yet, but I am sure it will be awesome. When the time is right, I will try and get a video of it with the Class 1 unlimited with buggy motors mod.

Thanks for providing pics! Will make a mental note. I have many buwizz but I also have many models so unfortunately they all need to share I should be done today a colour scheme I have not seen built yet.....I think. Curious as to why you added an extra spring to each rear wheel? Is there a benefit? Is it the look of the higher back end stance? Can you provide additional pictures please?

After a long break for Christmas break and winter break, I am back to building; more specifically finishing the build on this. I am almost done but have noticed the buwizz batteries will not be able to come out the bottom because a 4 * 6 bent lift arm is blocking it. I had assumed if the red pins were not installed this would be an easy removal but it seems like the entire side of the body needs to be removed to get the battery out? Am I missing something? Superb build by the way. It is extremely sturdy, and I can see you like to incorporate the perfect triangle.

Thanks I sprayed some into a ceramic bowl and used a Q-tip to apply on surfaces. Seemed a lot neater solution than trying to spray everywhere.

@Didumos69 can you check the rotation of your turn table? My turntable with no WD40 PTFE spray spins freely several revolutions, after the spray, it doesn't spin freely and at most does one revolution. I am just holding one side and flicking the other side with my finger to spin it.

@brunojj1 you have created an amazing moc; however, unfortunately you have used the perfect storm of a piece for the exhaust. No equivalent and low stock at the time, which is completely gone now. I know you are working on the RC version instructions right now, and with no stock of the 6797 piece, have you considered trying to redesign that area? I have already built your amazing moc, but I know some people including myself, if pieces don't exist or too cost prohibitive to buy I don't build it. I would hate to see all that effort put into the RC instructions only to have people upset that they can't actually build it. The exhaust piece you used was ingenious and perfect for that car so it should still be included but maybe an alternative for the people who can't get it?

I am glad I asked before snapping all the turntables together, I did snap one but decided to proceed with questions before continuing with the instructions. I will give the WD40 PTFE spray a go and get back into the build in a couple of days.

I am sure you mentioned it during your build but I have forgotten, did you use silicone and or WD40 PTFE during all your testing? I recall the smaller hubs becoming looser at one point but maybe you used no lubricant at that time? One additional question, is it easy to spray inside the turntable after it is assembled (through holes and rotating) or is better to apply the lubricant before assembly?

@Didumos69 is there a difference or what is the reasoning for choosing WD40 PTFE over a silcone spray? I noticed WD40 mentions not to spray on Polycarbonate and although the plastic is most likely ABS it might be a PC/ABS mix. I don't if there are any long term effects?

I had all the pieces ready a long time ago. I am sure I have all the updated pieces when instructions are finally released. I can't help to think what a 2 Buggy motor (or even 4 buggy motor) would be like! I built the updated class one buggy with buggy motors and at higher speeds there are issues with it that this buggy seems like it would resolve.

Nice design. Why didn't rubber inserts work on both sides? Was there any room left to fit a tile or sloped piece to cover it all so it looks better through the wheel?
