  1. Looks like LEGO has finally figured out how to split the instruction books properly! About time.
  2. Unimog is amazing, so if you can get one for a good price, definitely get one! You could wait until 42008 comes out. That has pneumatics, Linear actuators, and a motor.
  3. so 42009 will have 4x 16 long black axle, and a 32 long? nice! The B model is also pretty good, certainly a lot better than the 8421 B model (which was just another attachment like 8110 and 9398) When I eventually get it (or maybe two of them), I think my first mod will be to rearrange the boom so that the pivot is right at the back. I will lengthen the other sections, and probably add two more LA's to retain full boom manoeuvrability. I will probably try to make the stabilisers extend further as well. 42008 seems to be all the functions of 8285 minus the engine (I assume) compressed into a much smaller model. It will go great with my 8063. I kind of wish 42008 came with new style black panels though.
  4. working now. The website was down because of site maintenance.
  5. Probably the easiest thing to do would be look at the parts used in the attachment for 8284 Tractor, and compare it to the parts used in the trailer in 8063 because the actual tractors should be the same except different panels. After having a quick look through my instructions (I own both sets), if you get 8063, you will need some triangle beams, and possibly a couple of gears, so if you don't have any other Technic sets, then you will definitely have to get some extra parts or another set to be able to build the buggy completely.
  6. This set has DARK blue Technic beams in it. I actually have two of them, so I have 36 dark blue Technic parts. (6 connectors, 4 beams, 8 thin beams, and 18 bent beams) I hope it is the same colour.
  7. I hope like hell I will be able to buy this from NZ at the same time as every one else, otherwise they will be all gone by the time it would normally come out in NZ. Looks great though, hopefully it is the same dark blue as used in the Bionicles, because I actually have some Technic beams in dark blue already.
  8. If you go back to 2003 when the studless system was fully integrated, you get this (I have included all sets with 1000+ sets parts): 2003: medium set (fully pneumatic though!) 2004: large set with pneumatics 2005: very large set with pneumatics and motor 2006: very large set with pneumatics (also a large set with nothing special) 2007: large set, RC PF (also a large set with nothing special) 2008: large set, PF (also a large set with LA's) 2009: Very large set, PF, LA's (also two large sets with LA's) 2010: large set, RC PF, LA's (also a large set with LA's) 2011: Extremely large set, PF and Pneumatics (also two large sets with PF) 2012: large set, RC PF (also a large set with PF and LA's, and another large set with LA's) 2013: Extremely large set, PF, LA's (also a large set with PF, LA's and Pneumatics, and another large set with LA's) 2014: large or very large set with at least PF, this is basically guaranteed. (also probably two other large sets, one in 1h, and at least one with PF) Medium = 500-1000 parts Large = 1000-1500 parts Very large = 1500-2000 parts Extremely large = 2000+ parts After laying it out like that, I have to say that 2013 is probably the best year in recent times!
  9. or buy them in bulk from Bricklink. just checked, and surprisingly expensive! If only we could have the old gray scale standard parts with the awesome modern models.
  10. Blue and white would be pretty awesome. also, it would have been cool if they included the crane extension that most mobile cranes have.
  11. I'm pretty sure parts misplaced slightly are quite common. as long as it is still obvious what is supposed to go where, it probably doesn't matter. EDIT: an example I just found in 9390 book 1 page 15, the 5 long axle is rotated for some reason, even though it should be aligned with the connector.
  12. wow! I assume that is the full extension of all three booms? If so, 42009 is actually quite impressive! Also, based on the other photos with all three, I have to say that 42009 is definitely best, and 8053 isn't actually too bad, but still not quite as good as 8421. Thankyou for these comparison photos!
  13. There are the same panels on the doors, so I would assume he ran out. Great job dokludi! Is that really how far the boom extends though? because the extension is a bit pathetic.
  14. A truck with two sets of double rear wheels (like 8285) would be possible, hopefully also making good use of all the linear actuators. I hope it isn't just an alternate top like 8421. (which is IMO another downside of 8421 that 42009 could improve on)
  15. what if we started a Technic wiki? With multiple people contributing, it should be possible to catalogue every Technic set ever made quite quickly. There could even be pages for specific parts, like the PF system, linear actuators and pneumatics. Reviews could also be included as a sub page of the main set pages. Basically like Brickipedia, but specifically for Technic.
  16. Wow, very impressive! On the "LEGO Events" Facebook page, someone said this: "Actual piece count is 2606 parts, based on info at the event. The arm extends to 70 cm, and has articulated steering." 2606 parts?!!! Not too surprising I suppose, considering how huge it is! Last time there was such a huge jump in the (Technic) part number record was 8421! (previous record holder was 8448 with 1437 parts) What i would like to know is how they have made the second boom section extend. in 8421, they used string. Actually, never mind, in the photo of the front, it is possible to see string under the boom, so I assume it will be similar to 8421. So far, the only thing I particularly dislike about it is that the boom is attached too far forward on the rotating part (what IS it called?)
  17. 8421 was my first flagship, and I absolutely loved it, so I am looking forward to 42009 to see how it compares. unfortunately, I will probably have to wait until after Christmas to get it due to me returning to uni this year and no longer having money to spend on the other hand, once I graduate, I should be able to get a better paying job
  18. I will have to build this some time, probably this weekend. just a note, it is definitely a spider, NOT an insect! It has eight legs, not six (it looks more like a spider too)!
  19. can't be bothered looking up exactly how much I have spent in the last two years, but it would definitely be more than half of my sets. my sets come to $7056 US on Brickset, but I would have spent at least $10,000 NZ on all my LEGO (mostly Technic) mainly because LEGO is ridiculously expensive in New Zealand ($400 for the Unimog!!!), which is why I have bought most of my lego in the last two years via Bricklink, because even including the shipping (which isn't cheap) it is still cheaper than buying locally!
  20. When WILL your website be complete?! I really should build the 8466 and 8458 combo model. I have both sets now, but I haven't got round to it yet. In fact, there are a lot of MOC's I haven't got round to building yet!
  21. I have just checked, the 6.5L springs do work, although they are offset by 1 which seems to make the axle wobble more than usual. to correct that, I replaced the 3L pin with pinhole and the straight pin connector with the axle connector #2, with a 5L axle connecting the two sides. I hope that makes sense.
  22. Technic Bricks is down for me too (NZ) Not the first time, this seems to happen every so often for some reason.
  23. Anyone got the Silver Champion or Ferrari 1:8 as well as this to compare with? It does look great, but even with the ridiculous number of panels, it still seems to be more empty than the Ferrari, but maybe it looks better in person. A real shame they couldn't have used the wider tires at the back, that would have been awesome, especially if they made the wide rims in black! Unfortunately I won't be able to get it until the end of this year because I am going back to Uni and will no longer have disposable income :-(
  24. I got two 9398's and one of them had one part and the other set had the other part! I got two of them, mainly for the motors (especially the servo motor!), but from different places, so they were obviously made at different times.
