I would strongly suggest studying past games and how they were balanced. The number of roles for each side is incredibly typical and given Palathadric's revelation, it wasn't unbalanced at all in my estimation. For me, the most unbalanced role in the game is your godfather who was not only given the standard luxury of appearing to be town, but was some kind of PGO and the killer at the same time, meaning that your most important role had 2 layers of protection that they wouldn't normally have, giving you a lot more chance to kill nightly until the end. And I still don't see that as a problem either, just one more variation in games. I know you think that hosts should stick to the tried and true or some such, but who wants to keep putting the same puzzle together over and over? Some of the best (and worst) games on EB have been wildly original and even horribly unbalanced, leading to a lot of interesting experiences, and even the bad ones have been memorable and educational. Hell, I've had hosts who literally tried to give me away as scum because the town was doing so poorly (or because they were just bastards ), and still won. It's all part of the journey and the hard journeys are the best. So yeah, play some more, study past games, see the kinds of things that happen here (because EB Mafia is not Mafiawiki/internet-typical mafia), and you'll be amazed at how differently you see things.

See, darkdragon, I was mean to the town, too, just in private. Seriously, I'm a bastard to play with if I'm town. If I'm scum, I'll just take over, or wait until 'the boss' gets himself killed and then take control. In the end, I'm a powerful ally, so figure out if I'm on your team, and if not, kill me quickly. Now I'm megablocking metagaming myself, will this ever end? And it was completely true... in another game! The problem is that by the time I started talking to you, you were in complete paranoia mode and I kept getting contradictory stories from you and Tammo, so I wasn't feeling overly trusting either. There were a lot of things that I did explain, or things that didn't need explaining, so eventually the repeated questions got old, especially since I didn't feel like I was being listened to anyway. To be fair, I didn't trust you at one point, almost becoming convinced that you could only pick such bad targets if you were either converted or a serial killer, so I may not have been as cooperative as I could have been. Whatever the case, it was all cleared up by the end and the nasty scum were sent to their final reward, which is listening to York tell sting stories for the rest of eternity.

That isn't completely true, we used to ramble on and on, but then mafia took a weird turn against roleplay and most of our chatter would now be viewed as suspicious. Plus we're lazy. Seriously though, roleplay is a key element of this game, it's the thing that makes it fun and interesting and adds a little extra challenge. Just posting as yourself is boring as hell, and it really isn't what's intended. You're given a role to play, play it, be it, live it! I take full credit for York. As I explained on the deadboard, I didn't want to risk that she was actually some form of neutral usurper and preferred to see her killed before simply lynching swils. The added benefit was that in some cases, when a killer meets a killer, they fight it out, and the vig could have lost (Baritones 2, for example, which this game mirrored in some ways). At that point, there is no telling where the game might have gone. Oh, and I really wanted York dead.
-
If you ever read the deadboard, you'll see that it was certainly believed longer than it should have been considering that I made it as obviously fake as possible. That's just when I knew you would kill me and sent the official word out, but whatever, now we can document that at least two of us were on to you. Good job, scum! Forever York.
-
Sure, but I knew I wasn't talking to townies, so I didn't care. I said all of my dickish things to the town in private. But yes, that's actually a valuable lesson, being able to separate the game from real life. The way you treat someone in game could be the same as how you would treat them in life, but it doesn't have to be, it's ... ROLEPLAY! Yay for roleplay, the best part of mafia! Except York.

All games here are team-win (and despite being on that winning team, I despise the team-win concept).
-
They never listened well at all, I was beating my head against the wall all game long. Perfect, that was the point, you reacted exactly the way scum would (and shouldn't) to that.
-
The justification for it was that you had claimed not to know something that they had told you. Considering how many times both of them contradicted themselves, it was just a horrible decision.
-
I was trying to stay alive, I had a role to protect and when I accuse people, I just get metagamed myself killed. Privately, I pushed as hard as I could, but the town blockheads didn't listen well. Telling you all that you sucked was part of my plan to justify my roleclaim that I couldn't be killed easily, almost taunting you to do it. Look how long it took before anyone bit? Plus it was just fun, and fun is what this game is about. I never told anyone else that they sucked, did I? York does not count, I think we can agree on that. I really was pissed when they did that. If I had known, I would have protected you myself. Yeah, he did a better job than even I realised during the game, I should have contacted him directly with my last-minute suspicions instead of who I did. It didn't help that the two I chose were really not the best, Draggy and fhomess: one person nobody ever wants to trust and one who just disappeared on the town at the last minute, and never listened overly well anyway.

Clearly misplaced priorities here.

So true, and I'll mock it for as long as he does. And I fixed your spelling. darkdragon: Check the dates and times. You'll notice I actually believed that York was a neutral, even to the end when I asked the vig to kill her, I was just making sure she wouldn't come back to haunt us. It's a town win, we don't track individual wins anymore, so it doesn't matter. EXCALIBUR 3.0 INCOMING!
-
Only parts of it, and in the end, what does that say for the scum?
-
Technically it's just a town win, but it's normal to specifically credit the survivors. Would you like to see the PMs to prove it?
-
Quoted for truth. 1000 times over.
-
Don't even get me started on them. Doesn't matter, had town win. In the end, I can say I pegged each scum before they were revealed (though early on I thought WBD was the 5th). I also never protected a scum. Overall, I'm pleased. It was a blast, Bob! Now go put on your fireproof undies, just in case some noob wants to complain about the game mechanics.

Silly dragon, there weren't any mechanics in this game, just engineers. -

Fun times, thanks for the game, Bob! Go town, you've got this in the bag if you use your brains! -
Pills here!

Interesting. While Lt. Francis was always the weakest of the names of my suspect list, mostly based on a quirky nagging at the edge of my scumdar, seeing it all written out makes it come together in my mind, certainly enough for a vote. Vote: Lieutenant Francis (AwesomeStar)

Investigator would be easier. Or blocker for that matter. A protector could actually be discovered if there was a surprise neutral in the game, though I guess any claim could be covered with "but I was blocked!", at least for a day or two. In the end, the easiest is just to claim vanilla, isn't it?

I do and he can confirm that I've been asking for either a lynch or night kill on Vanderbilt for as long as I can remember and that along the way, both he and McAndrews reassured me that Vanderbilt 'really looks like a townie', which I tried to explain is exactly what the scum try to do. At least I think the point has been made now. You're still not sure about my role? Really? I'm almost flattered. Almost. I think he would have listened today, but thankfully we don't have to test that theory since something better came along. As a matter of fact, he actually said he would target Vanderbilt tonight, since I was so sure. He also explained that he had hesitated previously because he wanted to wait for me to be investigated, which is reasonable enough.
-
Yeah, it was more a confirmation that at least for now, my suspicion of Wheeler is reduced and a bit of playful joking at Vanderbilt's death. I've certainly waited long enough to see it happen. Since you brought up the whole thing, I can confirm that I've been one of those voices going to the vig privately in an attempt to get someone killed, I think it's fairly obvious that it was Vanderbilt, who was on my list of suspects since day 2, along with what's-his-name-who-called-me-rude (has anyone noticed that I'm bad with names?). Now I don't have to ask again, since the job has been done. It's a shame it took this long to deal with the most obvious members of the scum, now is where things are going to get interesting.
