  1. First off, great review, lots of nice detailed pics! *y* Now the serious part. I absolutely refuse to buy this set!!! There. I did it. I finally convinced myself not to buy a LEGO set. I absolutely won't buy this one, no matter what, no way, no how! Unless it's on a really good sale ... What I will do, however, is pick up some of those printed buns from bricklink. I see mushrooms in future mocs! Don't get me wrong, it looks like a decent enough set and all, but enough is enough and I have to draw the line somewhere. I had previous drawn it at Avatar, then I found them on clearance and that little voice in my head said, "oh look, nice parts, cheap price, and only 2 sets to have the entire line ..." That voice gets me in a lot of trouble. But really, great review!
  2. That is high by Megablocks standards :-P At it's worst, LEGO has always outshined Megablocks and both companies know it. MB tries to flood areas to undercut LEGO, but in the long run, they always lose. Biggest losers in it all are the kids who have lame parents who don't bother paying attention to what they're buying. If you can afford MB, you can afford a slightly smaller amount of LEGO, or maybe if you put a little effort into it, you'd find a nice sale and end up with the right product at the right price. Anything less would be uncivilized.

  4. It's growing on me too. I knew I wanted one for figs, but now I'm thinking that a couple would come in handy, more if I can find a deal. Yep, I see potential here, I'll just use this speeder as crashed, crushed, or otherwise destroyed decoration, unless it mods well into something I can live with.
  5. ... "together, we could rule the universe as father and son and ..." he begins babbling as the believed to be dead but not even particularly injured, but undead nonetheless ImperialShadows (I mentioned being 190 in another thread) rises from his momentary slumber and lops the head off the interloper, again earning the gratitude of a now perplexed Chuck Norris who decides that it's actually safer and saner in Hollywood, so he hops in a passing ... *takes a breath ... whew*
  6. Nice review of a surprisingly interesting set. *y* Those windows are great, and no doubt difficult to get. Classic coffee maker, simple yet exactly right. That baseplate was in a few other sets, but never with that pattern. Would have made a great base for some of the classic 80s houses LEGO used to treat us to. In tan was part of the Adventurers Egypt sets. As recently as 2001 it was a base for Ogel. Versatile plate that hopefully hasn't disappeared completely. ParaPink is apparently "Light Pink" on Brickshelf, so I guess it's just lighter than normal pink (and stopped appearing in 1995. Just so you know, that monkey is drinking too much and likely to fall in the pool ... ;-)
  7. Outside of a LEGO brand store, I've never seen a Belville set. Paradisa made brief appearances here and there, but stores never devoted any real effort or space to them. I'm not sure if the series failed or if it just never had a chance to be seen widely enough. Back when I saw them, I scoffed at the idea and passed them by. I wouldn't make that mistake now. Belville, being a completely non-system scale series, never held any interest for me. It might as well be Jack Stone for girls. Looking at it now, Paradisa wouldn't be bad as a city supplement and for some accessories. I'd like to see it return to some extent. It definitely had the whole non-conflict thing going for it and you could count on some female minifigs.
  8. Those are great, small, simple, effective. That scout trooper helmet makes me think they could be modified a bit and serve as transport for water based Imperials as well.
  9. ... a passing forum member glanced in, briefly wondering just what brand of bricks you people had been smoking, but decided it was best not to ask, and, sporting a rather healthy beard himself, felt the urge to help Chuck by letting him out of the locked car, to which Chuck thanked him by ...
  10. I don't really understand what you're asking, but I'll give a few answers anyway. The early Falcon's should come with a numbered certificate, and I would assume that #1 is a possibility (but very unlikely). I would expect that to be displayed somewhere within the company archives. Once the first edition ends, if it ends, I would expect no more certificates. No one seems to know if this will include a numbered brick like the train limited edition did. I don't know if that helps. Try asking your question again.
  11. Double *y* , and you're right, it's all Hinkley's fault! ;-) I really do think that in these times when LEGO is trying to claim to avoid violence, they'd make a line like this. It's fine having Duplo Castles and such, but how about the more peaceful side of life that involves coming up with creative things to do in a friendly enviroment instead of just another way to kill each other?
  12. Very interesting information, unfortunately I'm not sure it helps (but wow, I'd like to have seen Ironram). It does give some very general ideas though about relative placement of bases. Thanks for posting that! *y* Some good logic here. I agree that this is potentially a very small area being shown. If one assumed that the tiny middle island was in fact, this one turned at a different angle, we'd have a general idea of things.
  13. The drama, the emotion, the raw power of conflict, subtle humour, in your face humour, slapstick comedy, innuendo, puns and wordplay, appropriate scenery that adds to the atmosphere but doesn't distract from the story line. Add a dream sequence and some mystery and it's got everything I look for in a show (I can't help but think of it as a show for some reason). Oh, and fascinating parts I haven't seen before (I've already put the rake on my Brickshelf wanted list, but that hammer isn't available anywhere). I must confess to a deep dark secret. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away I read the first issue of Fabuland Housewives and loved it. Always wished they were available in a PDF with the captions built in for offline viewing. Point is though, after reading it, I had a disturbing urge to buy a Fabuland shovel, which I did in my next parts order. Later I picked up a pile of yellow brooms. I was thrilled to find one of the axes used in Jabba's Palace and bought more for other guards. I can't even imagine why they don't reissue that hammer as a Castle weapon, it would be perfect with the current line. Hi, my name is Imperial Shadows and I am a Fabuland Accessory Junkie. *wub* Stop staring at me people. :-$ Great cliffhanger Hinkley, can't wait for the next exciting episode!
  14. Sith Infiltrator, couple of new keychains, a pair of those yellow cardboard carrying case things S@H cut the price on. PaB assortment. Can't think of what else ...
  15. Well, not much of a battle here, sadly. Wicket doesn't stand a chance without making up some kind of complicated crazy story, so it's all Sidious and fried ewok.
  16. How did you know that I call LEGO 'Betty'? :-P
  17. It seems like a reasonable project but I'm not at all convinced that the necessary data has been collected thus far. I'm not certain that it even exists. Bottom line is, without reference points there is no way to determine scale at all. I always took the map to represent a few small islands and the western half of one larger one, making the ship very close to actual size. Potentially, it could be several large islands and a continent with the ship as decoration. There is just no way to know. Mister Phes: I'm sure you would know better than I. Have there ever been any Pirate themed maps printed that included locations of actual sets? For example, a map showing Eldorado Fortress and it's relative position to Forbidden Island? From that, or something like it, it might be possible to estimate the space that such sets would take and adjust the relative size of the surrounding land to match. Almost anything would do. Instructions page, package, comic book, those little pirate books, just something referring to real sets on a map.
  18. First you chop down a really tall tree, making sure to select one that appears to be free of rot and fairly straight ... :-) Ok, seriously phred seems to have the answer there, and it looks like a good one. I think I'll go read up on that myself!
  19. I have no idea what either of you just said and it makes more sense than 95% of the game movies out there already :-P
  20. I'm going to definitely try to get in on this one with my Chinese Restaurant. I've got parts and sets flying in as we speak, hopefully enough to get this thing together. If not, I'll have to resort to the digital version :-( Either way, I'm in! City On! *y*
  21. POTENTIAL SPOILER ZONE! GO READ THE COMIC FIRST, YOU'LL THANK ME! I'm only just starting it, but the first shot forces me to comment immediately. It's like a classic movie. Abbott and Costello! *y* *y* *y* That first shot is pure setup. You automatically know what's coming. There they are, each holding an implement of whackitude, surrounded by even more of them. What will happen? Ha! You know what will happen. Read their lines. Conflict! Conflict and blunt weapons! Pure win. In this scenario, I'm picturing Hinkley playing the part of Bud Abbott. Bud was always the smart guy, the fast talker, the man with the plan, the one who knew just how to push Costello's buttons to get the right reaction. Ironically, in this comedy team Bud was the straight man 8-
  22. Sounds like a good place for someone to start a Bionicle forum ... another website.
  23. I'm not really upset, it was just the first pick I'd made that ended up losing and it felt like such a good possiblity for the underdog to pull out a surprise victory. That and I really ended up disliking Tyrannus by the time Anakin, well, disarmed him, among other things. ;-)
  24. Well sure, now that he's figured out that little problem, the answer should be perfectly clear... Notice the small ship on the map? Measure it, assume it's a mid-sized ship, say Caribbean Clipper, and scale up accordingly. All too easy... ;-) Oh, and if 20cm = 9.1in and 30cm = 11.8in, something is rotten in LEGOLAND. Without even knowing the conversion, I can immediately tell that based on the first figure 10cm = 4.55in, which would make 30cm = 13.15in, or, if 30cm = 11.8in, then I'll get a headache dividing the .8 by 2/3. Good luck! Crazy Map Conversion On! *y*
