Some interesting parts use there. The wagon wheel as ships wheel, the unique gun placement, the skull decoration, it all makes for a different kind of look than typical. I'm a little concerned that pirate #2 in that last pic looks like he's about to audition for the Village People though... ;-) Keep up the good work, I think you're on the right track, just tweak and adjust and improve and you'll have a fine fleet! *y*

Purist here. Mixing and matching official parts to achieve a look is one thing, but I wouldn't go so far as to cut a perfectly good piece. Now I might consider two broken parts being merged in some useful way, I just haven't found that opportunity yet. As for making parts ... good luck. I tried making little lead cannons for a game once and it was a nightmare. A nightmare! *runs off screaming!* *wacko*

Ultimate Star Wars Minifig Challenge Round 3
Shadows replied to captaintau's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Anakin, a bit green but young and strong, the Emperor, way out of practice. If Anakin can keep the Emperor out of his head, he can win easily. I actually think he never would have become Vader if he'd met Palpatine in his Emperor form. He would have seen through the deception and never fallen for the whole "we'll make the republic a better place" nonsense. That said, Emperor in the corner pocket, thrown down some ventilation shaft. Anakin, sporting a new fried look, but alive. -
Came as a surprise to me too, but that part is called a "technic horn" (2536c) and comes in black, brown, reddish brown, gray and bley. In black: 2 in 8480-1 - Space Shuttle / "FOS Light" Space Shuttle (1996) 2 in 8247-1 - Road Rebel / Buggy Racer (1999) 2 in 8233-1 - MC vs. Stinger (1998) 2 in 8239-1 - Cyber Challenge (1998) 1 in 8229-1 - Tread Trekker (1997) Learn something new every day. :-)

Let me translate that for you. "Definitely discussing" Bill: Hey Fred, remember those old pirate sets? Fred: Sure, those were great. Bill: Wish we still made those. Fred: Me too. "really new, not rereleases" Coming soon: Pirates vs. Aliens, the Jelly invasion! Your toddler will love these new Duplo pirates and the fruit flavoured aliens they battle! "I had great fun with this set, it's awesome. It's fun to play with, and I love the baseplate." I'm selling it on eBay. L@@K! WOW! RARE! ;-) ps. Edited to note this ... "Nov 29 2003 6:21PM" ... Since then, we got pirates. 4+ Jack Stone wannabe pirates. I'm sorry Axle, but for raising false hope, you walk the plank! >:-(

I once knew a man with a wooden leg named Smith, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of his other leg.

I'd love to get into trains, but it's one of the few things I won't allow right now. I just couldn't do them justice in a limited space. Then again, I said the same thing about Town and I can already feel my will being bent by the whole Cafe Corner / Modular standard. Remember: LEGO isn't a disease, it's the cure. We'll be here for you during your recovery. Glad to have you join us! Visit often, we're a nice crowd. :-)

When it is released, or at least once we've seen pics, we should start a thread devoted to filling in all of the missing characters that LEGO won't produce. Looking through the various figures made previously, there are a lot of suitable yellow faced nazis, but not so many in flesh, this could be difficult.

A lot of great work there. The glass over blue fabric water effect is very nice. I especially like the boats and that taxi in the first shot. Simple and effective. Only thing that stands out as odd is the one fleshie. Is that intentionally meant to represent something? Mystery Ship On! *y*

This is an excellent thread about making custom torsos. http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=10009

In light of recent revelations concerning walrus anatomy, now I understand why Collette looked so scared in her appearance in The Whacker and Walrus ... :-P <something thoroughly inappropriate> On! X-D

Avatar was very close to a complete waste, but I picked up both sets cheap and they've got some interesting minifigs and parts, so I'm not complaining. Spongebob is fine, also interesting for parts though I don't care about the show. Batman and Indy, like Star Wars, are definite winners with me. Would I like to see a lot more licenses? No. I'm one of the few who is thrilled that LOTR and POTC didn't come to LEGO as licenses. I would much rather see non-licensed themes for Castle and hopefully Pirates one day. Could LEGO go too far? Sure. Have they yet? Not to me. If that changes, I'll let you know.

Ultimate Star Wars Minifig Challenge Round 3
Shadows replied to captaintau's topic in LEGO Star Wars
While it's hard to take into account, I think in many ways it wasn't Qui Gon that lost in Episode I as much as it was the entire force conspiring against him. In order for things to progress as they needed to, he had to die, Obi Wan had to become Anakin's new master so that could get thoroughly botched up, and then the jedi all had to die. In a direct one on one match, I think you could flip a coin to see who would win, but ultimately the universe decided this one the first time, and who can argue with the universe? Maul wins, barely. -
Slept. I slept all day. What does that mean to you? I have posting energy! I'm a posting fool when I've slept! (actually, I'm a posting fool when I haven't slept, when I have slept I almost make sense)

Nose to the grindstone and all that, I've finally caught up! So now, I will give my lengthy scene by scene review of every episode up to the present. As we join our story, we see ... *scene fades out and fades back in, 18 1/2 hours later* ... and that was the shocker of the episode, another murder in Fabuland. Some cliffhanger, eh? There you have it, a complete recap of the series. Don't forget to check out those special cameo appearances by the Whacker and the Walrus, more or less, and sometimes less is more! Ok ok, real review. LOVED IT! I'd marry it but it's illegal here. Seriously. I don't watch TV, I don't go to new movies, I don't like that current crap they call music (not much of it), but this is sheer brilliance. From this point forward, my entire pop culture experience will be Fabuland Housewives, long may it continue! I really do like it that much. It's compelling. It's twisted. It's really cool looking. The jokes work exactly the way my mind works, which is both scary and oddly comforting. Did I mention I like it? :-$

Oh, I knew that, I was just kidding that I would heckle the story thread (I won't, really). *camps out in line for the next story* ;-)

Well crap, I missed the deadline. There's always room for shadowy mysterious hecklers of unknown origins, right? >:-) (I can't believe I missed this) :'-(

Ultimate Star Wars Minifig Challenge Round 3
Shadows replied to captaintau's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I hate to say it, having made my own attempts at long-shot battle results, but there should be some basic logic involved in this. You don't rip the arms off a Sith, and even if you do, he still kills you with his mind. You don't sneak up on a Sith or grab his lightsabre while he's distracted, unless you can cause the kind of distraction that involves a planet falling on him. If you want to take one out in an unbalanced fight, at least find a known weakness and exploit it. If Chewie had hidden Vader's asthma medicine and killed him during a fit of coughing, I might buy that idea ;-) -
I rebooted once and it didn't reset, but it's working again so I'll just chalk it up to temporary insanity *wacko*

No matter how many times I leave and return, I keep seeing this: Welcome back; your last visit was: Yesterday, 08:42 PM It isn't updating. Anyone else noticing this?
-
I'm still drooling over the storage and display pictures, I'll get to the wordy parts later ... *wub*

That's why I was thinking train or pilot. Could take off the logo and the pocket from this one for the general look, assuming dark blue is fine. But yeah, ultimately it's custom decal or settle for something less.

The "Broken Spoke" Gold Mine: A Wild West MOC
Shadows replied to SirNadroj's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wow, I'm really liking the idea here, especially with the Big Thunder connection. I'd like to see larger portions of the actual ride, to be honest. Maybe add some elements inspired by it, like a small shack, various bones for decoration, one of those small windmills you always see out in the old west, thinks like that. Just some additional set pieces. Coins found in a mine isn't such a bad concept. Perhaps they've discovered the hidden loot from an old stagecoach robbery or raided Spanish treasure shipment out of California. Oh, and for some crazy reason I like that huge cactus. They can get very large and it's got a nice shape. Maybe add some of those short LEGO scrub looking bushes and some random studs as rocks. I hope you'll continue to expand this, it's something LEGO would never make, but I'd love to see. Wildest Ride in the Wilderness On! *y*
