  1. Thanks, everyone. I'll try to shoot a movie this weekend. Don't expect it to be the best stuff you have ever seen :)
  2. I have the rear deck more or less finished. All the hatches and bows are build. The maindeck under the wheelhouse is build.and I have added some details on the forcastle deck. Smit Zwarte Zee by Konajra, on Flickr
  3. Yes it has. But it will run best on a softer surface like a towel or carpet. and thanks for the comments.
  4. I think it took me about 4 weeks. I had the most trouble with the brick build bearing. slewing did not go as smooth as I wanted. It is a lot better now but still not as smooth as I want it to be. The bucket door closes automaticly by gravity. It is held in the closing position by a 3L axle with stud that is also pulled down behind a cheese slope by gravity when the bucket is almost at ground level. It is all very simple Well I've got to do something with my time besides going to the gym. Thanks for adding it. I will see what I can do. And thanks for the other nice comments.
  5. Hi All, Please allow me to show my latest finished model. You may have seen it on some blogs but I would like to post it here as well. This time not another big ship but back to my roots with a Caterpillar Rope Shovel. It is based on my earlier Bucyrus but it is a completely new build. It is fully functional and is intended to be used in some sort of mining display at LW2014 in Utrecht the Netherlands. Since I'm not much of a movie man there is no youtube material but trust me when I say it works. 7. I have made some progress. The overall shape of the hull is fininished in bricks. At the moment I'm working on the reardeck. Details like portholes and anchor holes will be done later. Also you can see that the wheelhouse is a lot futher than shown on the earlier photos. Smit Zwarte Zee. WIP by Konajra, on Flickr
  8. Thanks guys. I have build some more. The keel and all the trusses are done. I have also closed the bow. Inner frame completed. by Konajra, on Flickr
  9. It is definitely parsts intesive, but in order to get a strong hull this is for sure a good way. I ordered around 35.0000 bricks to build the complete ship. I finished the second section the whole thing is now 166 studs long. The complete frame will be 240 studs long. Second section finished. On to number 3 by Konajra, on Flickr Now I have to build the last frame and then start closing the hull so that it starts to look more like a ship.
  10. Yesterday evening I refined the bow and added a couple of trusses. Also the first colors have appeared. Olive green for the waterline and Dark red for the underwater ship. next step by Konajra, on Flickr
  11. Oke, first update :) the start of the keel. the hull will be build in 3 sections of about 65 cm each. The keel of the Zwarte Zee by Konajra, on Flickr I know it does not look spectecular but I am sure that will change when the build progresses
  12. After a long time waiting for bricks, they finally arived this week. It is time to start building the Zwarte Zee. Bricks!! by Konajra, on Flickr I will post updates regularly....

  16. Hello everyone, This topic will be about designing and hopefully the build of the Smit Zwarte Zee. The Zwarte Zee was launched in 1963 and was the most powerfull ocean tug from Smit internationale sleepdiensten for a short while. It was wrecked in 1984 after several attempts to sell it, (to be converted into a yacht) did not succeed. For a lot of Dutch people this is one of the most beautiful tugs ever build. As a 14 year old I had build the wooden model of Billing Boats and turned it into a RC version. It was far from perfect but I was very happy with. I don't know what happened with rhe ship but I don;t own it anymore. Somewhere in march 2012 I started with the wheelhouse. The reason for that is that I had not build a ship that was longer than 1 meter at that time. Besides that I did not had any idea how to build a smooth hull of 2 meters long and about 32 cm wide. In April 2012 I had this: Bridge of the Smit Zwarte Zee by Konajra, on Flickr A good start. At the end of april 2012 I had the wheelhouse finished. Zwarte Zee WIP (3) by Konajra, on Flickr But then I still had no idea how to start with the hull. Other projects came around and I put the Zwarte Zee at hold. But after building my larger ships, the Fairplay and the Grampian Don. I had discovered new techniques how build a smooth looking hull. But stil I wasn't looking forward to desinging the hull. So I started to build the wheelhouse in bricks after I had broken down the Calypso. That ship has been displayed across europe and it was time to take her apart. WIP Zwarte Zee by Konajra, on Flickr WIP Zwarte Zee by Konajra, on Flickr This is the situation at the moment. Some other things came by and I haven't come any further yet. Until the beginning of januari this year when I finally started with designing the hull in MLcad. First attempt failed badly zwarte zee by Konajra, on Flickr zwarte zee Ldraw WIP by Konajra, on Flickr Normal slopes and curved slopes did not work here as good as they did on my Fiona coaster. After four restarts I have yet a great looking hull: Zwarte Zee Ldraw Wip version 4.0 by Konajra, on Flickr zwarte zee WIP by Konajra, on Flickr

  20. Hi all, Please allow me to show you my latest moc. It is a small one compared to my latest build. it is a model of a IHC Merwede dredger. it is a standard, of the shelf vessel. I started this model in LDraw back in march 2012. Somehow I never got around to building it for real. IHC Merwede Dredger Beaver B50 by Konajra, on Flickr After building the FAIRPLAY-33 and the Grampian Don I had some dark red, red and white left over. Then I remembered the Ldraw file of the Dredger. So I took the leftovers and started building to find out how far I would come. To my own suprise I could complete the pontoons, structure for raising and lowering the cutterhead and a part of the wheelhouse. IHC beaver 50 WIP by Konajra, on Flickr But then I was not sure If I liked what I saw. Somehow the model did not made me happy. So I just thought about taking it apart again. And then it hit me. At the beginning of this year someone from IHC Merwede send me an email asking if Í was going to build the model. I responded but did not hear from them again. So three weeks ago I just send IHC another email asking if they would be interested in the model once it was finished. This time they told me that they were. I now have finished the model and after LEGOWorld in Utrecht this october I bring the model to the IHC Merwede ship yard. 21. well, I think it is And thanks again for the nice comments, everyone
  22. Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I have to say I'm very pleased with the color combination my self. it was not my intention to do so but I ran out of dark red. So i Had to add another color and since I already had to use the dark orange 1x1 with stud on side next to the windows (because I don't have them in dark red) I just used the same color for the top of the walls. It turned out very nice.:) I will of course post photos once the inside is done and a photo showing the brown house.
  23. Hello all, This will be my frist post here with something that really belongs here in the town forum. A while back I designed a lilte truck. an oldtimer. I found a photo on the internet of a Henschel HS100ta that is owned by a local transport company. They have it restored, painted in their house colors and visit truck shows with it. this is the Ldraw render of the truck Henschel hs100ta Ldraw render by Konajra, on Flickr and this is the real truck. Henschel hs100ta by Konajra, on Flickr Unfortunately the chasis could not be made in the green color so I decided to build it in DBG. But to photograph just only the truck did not work for me, so I decided to build a garage for it. Since I had a lot of dark orange (left overs from my ship the Tyr Viking) I decided that would be the color for the walls. After some building this was what I ended up with oltimer restoration by Konajra, on Flickr It is just a scene. the outside of the building looked like.... well just stacked bricks. But for me that was not a problem. It was just a scene to take a photo of the truck. I have never build anything that had to look nice and detailed on the outside as well as the inside. All my ships have no interior so I'm not used to building both sides completely detailed But now Lowlug is having a nice stand at LEGOWorld 2013. On the Lowlug stand, there is a city layout planned where there was space that had to be filled. So I was asked to bring my garage. But since it did not have a nice looking outside I decided to rebuild it into a modular so that it would fit in the layout. This time I choose dark red (Left overs from the Grampian Don :) ) for the walls which I think is just a little better then dark orange. I have finished the outside of the garage. The small brown house at the end is also parts of the garage. It is completey stripped so that the garage has become a litle bigger inside. truck garage by Konajra, on Flickr truck garage by Konajra, on Flickr The inside of the garage will be looking something like this truck garage by Konajra, on Flickr Next will be finishing the interior and all of the details. thanks for reading....
  24. Thanks for the frontpage and the nice comments. It is build in my usual scale 1/40. roughly minifig scale
  25. Hello All, Please allow me to show you my newest ship. It is the Grampian Don. A emergency Response Rescue Vessel of the Abberdeen based ship company North Star Shipping. It is used on the North sea to support oil platform and rescue people from oil platforms. it is 125 cm long, 32 cm wide, and about 74 cm high. As always is was first designed in Ldraw and then build. Estamated amount of bricks is about 15.000 - 16.000 There should be two larger daughter crafts on the 2 davits midship but at the moment I'm not motivated to design and build them. I hope that I am before I show this ship at Skaerbaek in september.
