  1. Interesting thought. To be honest, other than the odd rare set, like the recent UCS falcon, or the first people pack (with the wheelchair), I have no conception of how/to what extent advertising extends beyond the enthusiast community. I don’t even have a clue as to how many modular sets are sold, and what proportion of those people would be considered serious fans (the cost investment alone would suggest they are not casual purchases).
  2. Hmmmm, well I’m not sure how well the concept of a garage can be realised within the modular scale (I was very sceptical of the idea when previously suggested). Hopefully this might flush out an official press release now though! (a la the DD announcement).
  3. Very nice! Have you designed it for a specific layout? What would you envisage going to the side of the building where the balcony is? Without overlooking the more detailed and ornate architectural features, I’m curious about the technique for the roof - I can’t tell from the photo. Are they medium nougat tiles, or sideways masonry bricks that you managed to attach at few enough points to provide the “wonky” orientation to simulate roof tiles?
  4. That’s a fair point, and toy purchasing is probably more of a zero sum game than cinema ticket purchasing. However... I would anticipate that the vast majority of people buying the modulars are AFOLs (or at least TFOLs - teen fans - is that a thing?!), will be more more switched on to social media/online news. Plus, they are far more likely to be anticipating the release schedule, and so would either hold off making purchases awaiting January, or know they can safely wait up to several years to make a purchase (e.g. until x2/x3 VIP points). So ultimately I’m not sure to what extent your counter argument would hold up, or reflect the marketing strategy of TLG. Obviously IP protection is always going to be a concern (though maybe less after recent legal victories in China?). However, a strategy of cryptic teasing has been done with multiple expert/advanced sets in the past year (UCS MF; Bugatti Chiron; WV Firehouse), to popular acclaim within the AFOL community, so I don’t see why they couldn’t do the same for the modulars.
  5. I agree with all the recent comments, especially regarding the commercial benefit from Lego’s perspective in providing at least a little teaser information. I personally wasn’t impressed with the “official” line (via the Ambassador system) requesting that we not share leaks. Given that this complete shut down of information is entirely self-imposed by Lego, I think it’s a bit rich for them to complain when people want to know anything they can about such a much-anticipated set.
  6. I think I would be slightly disappointed if it was a Police station, not least because Jamie has previously said that they try to only choose a subject for a modular if they think they can add something new, and I feel like we’ve seen lots of good Police Station MOCs in past, plus there are always multiple City Police Stations available that could be converted to the modular format. I’d definitely rather see something new, and agree that an Art Nouveau Music Hall (with some recolours or new molds) would be a dream come true.
  7. Wow that’s incredible! I’m guessing you’ve got some professional knowledge of what you’re building - it certainly looks like it!
  8. Sad as it sounds, yes it would! Surely not to much longer to wait through!
  9. Wow, interesting to see the Lion head bricks back in that large set - I don’t think they have been in production for years. It will definitely feed speculation that they may appear in the next modular... Edit: My bad, I see it appeared in a Nexo knight set last year - how did I miss that!? I like the new fire axe, and also the neat water cannon too.
  10. Agreed. And while this is undeniably a subjective opinion, PC remains my least favourite modular in part due to the very specific nature of the inspiration (though the colour-blocking and unfinished roof and interior don’t help). As an aside, PC is at least the modular most amenable to modding, to the extent that I designed an entire cleaned-up Art Deco refit.
  11. Interesting, you make good points, though I wonder what the building would be. In terms of buildings that might be stereotypically associated as Chinese, a restaurant might be too similar to PR/DD, and there is already a laundry (BB). Maybe a tea room would be different enough though.
  12. Looks great, what a fantastic idea! I can’t wait to see your layout all together; it’s looked more and more impressive with each installment.
  13. Haha very nice, and a good idea. Lego is great for making little vignettes.
  14. Agreed, this is probably the only clear precedent for significant S@H discounts (beyond x2 VIP points), although I did pick up a bunch of other relatively exclusive sets in the Boxing Day sale last year (WV train, Beatles Submarine, Caterham 7) at a pretty good discount ?30%. That being said, the modulars are all great value for the PPP to begin with, so I don’t know how much there is to be gained from chasing relatively small discounts. On the flip-side, I know personally that I have been far too tempted to buy sets when they do go on sale, so that I don’t “miss the opportunity”, though have ended up with half an attic of sets I’m not sure whether to open or to sell on! #Accidental scalper...
  15. Is there any scope for modular MOC designs (or at least slimmed down 16-stud width ones to meet part limits) to be submitted with this new Lego-Bricklink collaboration? I haven’t come across anything further about it since it was announced, but seemed like a way to potentially bypass the Ideas panel barrier, and therefore make designs available for purchase. I know a lot of people sell electronic copies of designs, but I’m not even remotely tempted by designs that involve 3000+ pieces including the premium of buying parts not in production since 2011 etc. The official modulars all have an excellent PPP ratio, but I couldn’t justify the cost of something costing e.g. 15-20pence/cent per part.
  16. Agreed, I would love a post office and @Bricked1980‘s design captured it perfectly. I would definitely pay money for it!
  17. I’ve never seen sand red in the flesh, but there’s something it as a colour that I’m instinctly unsure of! I’ve seen it in some MOCs where it definitely works as a brick colour (where dark orange would be far too bright), but it’s the blue/purple tint that gives the colour a mauve-like look to it that I don’t really like (even the sound of the word is unpleasant). Sorry, a bit of a random comment! I think this is what some people must have felt about teal!
  18. To be honest, I can’t make any comparison there as don’t own FB and haven’t eat built DD. I have built AS in the last couple of months, which I definitely enjoyed, though even that was potentially affected by a number of modifications I made to things about the original I didn’t really care for. I’ve attached a photo for interest, though apologies for the poor quality, I should probably join an image hosting service to be able to embed better quality shots.
  19. I definitely agree that PC feels like a relatively weak build compared to most of the later modulars (though with good scope for modification). I think that PR remains both the best looking and the most enjoyable building experience, so I’d definitely recommend you do that one soon. There isn’t much repetition, and lots of nice little details (eg kitchen, attic apartment).
  20. Fantastic integration of the existing set! The lettering for the sign is really well done, and I like how you’ve been able to build the garage in sort of an early/mid 20thC style that wouldn’t look too out of place alongside other modulars (which is often the biggest challenge in mixing modern and older architectural styles). I’m struggling with the temptation to buy the set myself now to add it alongside the pile of existing unbuilt/future MOD projects I have...
  21. https://brickset.com/sets/containing-part-6092065 The curved round piece for the smaller burger was also used in a smaller-scale Trade Federation hover tank thing (which is where I recognised the piece from).
  22. Yeah, I’ve not built my DD yet, but from pictures, DO seems to be the best fit (even though I think the teal slightly clashes with the dark “earth” green above the pool hall windows. However, my main issue with this is that I think the best left-right combination is PR then DO, given that the drop in heights between the two sets, and the exposed 2nd storey detective’s office wall is looks pretty good by modular standards. Plus, in my layout, it feels like they form a nice transition between the different modular building styles.
  23. I agree wholeheartedly there. Despite having previously bought the recent(ish) Friends supermarket sets in order to convert it into a modular, I would be very happy to see an official Lego version. I think it would also fit well with the Lego corporate ethos, promoting a healthy lifestyle etc.
  24. I hope the owner of the red-roofed house was well compensated for having the monorail run directly over their roof top! I hope they have ear plugs...
  25. Looks good, I think it would be well worth adding trans clear tiles to the area of water in front of the the temple. It would really tie the bay together.
