I BL mine about a year ago. These are my customisations: Replaced the dark red pieces with red. Cut my own fabric. Replaced the red/blue jester hats with chrome gold helmets. No sound brick and stickers, but I was comtemplating to change the white 1 x 2 x 5 white brick pieces to some transparent coloured 1 x 1 round plates. Replaced the pieces that are hidden inside beneath with a cheaper colour of the same part. e.g technic bricks, axle joints, dark blue jumpers Got the light-bluish gray 48 x 48 baseplate inside of the green one. Used my own minifigs which I have on hand, e.g minfigs from "Fun in the park" set Build my own MOC carousel horses. I do not have pictures, but did a video on it. Have fun bricklinking!

[MOC] Santa Fe 4-4-2 "Atlantic" Locomotive

There are a pair of LED lights from the Lego power functions. I do not want keep the other light out of sight, so I route it to the rear to light up the firebox. :) Thank you for the nice comments! Will do some reworks when inspirations come along.. Haha. :) Thank you for the nice comments! Thank you for the likes!! Thank you! Well, I thought it looks aesthetically better with 2 pairs. :) Thanks for the advice!. In any case, it was really hard to find the suitable size o-rings at the place I live...Those are just red rubber bands which fits well too. Black/darker colours would be perfect though. Fantastic feedback! Yes, will do reworks on the boiler jacketing once i have the ideas. Good point there. As for the coach, it was built up as reference to the LNER. You are right, an American Engine shoudn't be pulling a UK coach in reality. Haha. Well, it was made as I have lot of extra reddish brown plates, and internet search came up with this LNER picture. Will probably do a better one in the future. :)- 18 replies

Missed out on the Lego Emerald Night. I reckon that I should build my own steam locomotive instead of getting one on the market. After few months of bricks purchases, precious advice from fellow Eurobrick members(e.g. Motor power functions Torgue, learned about quartering technique), and several rounds of reworks and modification, it is finally completed! Sharing my 8-wide build Santa Fe 4-4-2 "Atlantic" Locomotive, with Cargo Wagon and Passenger Car. Hope you guys like it! Train: Santa Fe 4-4-2 "Atlantic" Locomotive Specs: Engine [8-Wide]. Tender [7-wide], Cargo Wagon [8-wide], Passenger Car [8-wide] Power functions: 1 x XL-Motor, 1 x Power Function Light (Front Lamp and Rear Boiler), 1 x AAA Battery Pack, 1 x IR Receiver, 1 x Extension Wire This is the one of the only few photos of ATSF which I can find for reference during my build:

Thank you for the awesome comments and likes, guys! Will continue to build more moc. You are right! For the first time, I have run out of brick separators. :)

What could a brick separator do other than separating Lego bricks? Make it into a Transport Terminal! Design: V-shape shelter design provide shade and shield Lego minifigures from rain, and yet provides sufficient clearance for the all Lego city trains and buses. 2-way train platform design allows for trains to travel in 2 directions. Playability: Transport Terminal provides flexibility in switching play between train or bus station. When the platform is removed, train structure turns into a bus station. They also can be connected with one another to form a longer train/bus station. This meets the need for a longer platform when multiple trains cars are connected. As illustrated in the pictures, several modules can be connected via 3 x connecting pins at black base frame and 2 x technic liftarm on the brick separators at the module ends. Hope this gives you some ideas on how to use up your brick separators. Everything is awesome! :) https://ideas.lego.com/projects/168723 Multiple modules can be connected together via connecting pins at train station struction frame Top are joined by technic liftarm piece when multiple modules are connected for longer platforms Top can be removed, and turns into a bus station.

[Question] : Setup L-motor function with battery box
darkhorse00 replied to darkhorse00's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I managed to do up a video on the comparsion on my MOC 4-4-2 using AAA 1.5V alkaline vs 1.2V rechargeable. Notice any difference? I do feel that the alkaline 1.5V do give better performance. Sorry for the long video. Each test run is around 1min. Feel free to skip to every 1min interval. For each test, the train are tuned to run at max speed. Do note that the lightning in the passenger cabin is powered by a USB power bank in the cargo wagon instead of the PF battery pack itself. -
[Question] : Setup L-motor function with battery box
darkhorse00 replied to darkhorse00's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Yes, the train did slow down as I add more wagons to it. Specs of my wagons: Tender ~ 360g , studs 7 wide x 18 long Cargo wagon ~ 360g (450g if I load in a USB power bank to light up my passenger wagon), studs 8 wide x 30 long Passenger wagon ~ 550g. So with the additional wagons, I am looking at loading, studs 8 wide x 42 long So, the train is pulling ~1.5kg of load with only 1 L motor and 88000 battery pack. You are correct, it does slow down quite a bit too at curve possibly due to my long passenger wagon. By the way, having rechargable 1.2V batteries compare to alkaline 1.5V batteries does make a little bit of difference after testing them. at least this is what I think so, based on measuring the speed via naked eye. Okay will check out the O-rings. Thanks for the great recommendation! Thanks for the recommendation. I am sure the V2 IR receiver does make a difference. But seems like it might be too pricy for me to get one from bricklink. KIV for that. :) By the way, I have try swapping the rechargable 1.2V batteries with those alkaline 1.5V batteries. It works much much better too. Will see if I can post some videos on the differences in the train performance speed after I get some O-rings. -
[Question] : Setup L-motor function with battery box
darkhorse00 replied to darkhorse00's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Guess I mixed up mAH and mA. Found this link about the performance between the IR receiver and L motor, with different batteries. Looks like this might just answer my question. Haha. http://www.philohome.com/pfrec/pfcurves.htm -
This is beautiful. Awesome work there! Love the interior detail. Like the way on how you work on the details to the timber flooring and tiling, and nice carpet build in the living room!

[Question] : Setup L-motor function with battery box
darkhorse00 replied to darkhorse00's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thank you for the detailed explanation, jtlan! "Traction is how tightly the wheels grip the rail; the locomotive's wheels must be able to push against the rail and not slip. Traction can be increased by using traction tires with a higher coefficient of friction, or increasing the weight of the locomotive carried by the driving wheels." - I notice I have gotten the 2 x 2 rubber bands, and they become overstretch and thin out to give sufficient traction during motion. The wheels slipping are noticeably lesser after I replaced them with just normal rubber bands. With better traction, the train shows significant speed increase! Haha. Info: The train engine weighs close to 500g (yet to be completed). The tender (with battery pack 88000 and batteries) weighs ~360g) "Torque is how strongly the motor turns. Torque can be increased by using a more powerful motor, gearing down the motor, or using a power source that delivers more current. " - I was using the Panasonice eneloop rechargable battery (800mAh). Based on your explanantion, I reckon it should boost the torque by using Energiser Alkaline battery (1200mAh)?? I will be getting some Energiser Alkaline battery later to test out. :) . Might want to get some Lithium batteries to test out too if Alkaline works better, but those batteries are pretty expensive. Haha. -
I am not sure if this has been asked. I have been trying to build a ATSF 4-4-2 (8-wide), with L-motor function and battery box 88000. It seems that a single L-motor might not have enough pull for my train+tender and 2 wagons. It can move, but slowly. I am afraid it might stalls if I add another wagon, especially on curves. I am trying to squeeze all the power functions into the train, so the train do not have space to accomodate 2 motors. Anybody can advise if the types of AAA battery do make a difference? e.g. Does Alkaline batteries give better pull strength than rechargable batteries? If so, does it means that lithium batteries give an even better pulling strength than Alkaline batteries?

Woo yea. Thank you very much for the nice comments of the build!

Thank you! Oh. Thanks for the correction. I didn't realise that the door is hinged behind rather than the front till you mentioned it. For now, I guess I will keep it this way, until new pieces or any new idea come to my mind. But that is a good suggestion, KIV for that! I got almost all the modular sets except for the market street and the town hall (Price is out of reach for me for now. Caught me off guard as it retire too soon) . There are still 3 modulars which I have yet to build a vehicle for them, so I will be building more. :) Thanks for the likes!

Thank you for the like and the nice comments! Thank you for the nice comments! Glad you enjoy it! Thank you. Yes, I have been thinking of using different kind of wheels to fit in the vehicles too. More to come. Brick on!

Very clever use of the airplane wings. Love how it blends with the facade of the building. Nice build up of minifig scale chess set. Awesome work man!

Hi, I am in the progress of building my own MOC train too, after my poisonous purchases of the city train 6005* series. Just sharing my temp rail setup. (Refer to link below). The tracks are all used up from sets 60050, 60051, 60052 and 7499. Since you are doing moc, you can consider including a moc cross track junction too? Got that moc cross track junction from some fellow's thread in Eurobrick too. https://youtu.be/fgOendvRm-Y

Awesome build there. Nice carriage.
