  1. :) OK - truth be told, I just found out about them yesterday :) Sorry, if this was already old. It just got me wondering wether they might be a good purchase - I was quite insecure, in the end I gave in and bought some, maybe I needed a little bit of assurance, I dont know. Oh, and yes, olive green is definitely a no-brainer.
  2. Nice! Love the roots of the tree!!!
  3. I ordered a couple from bricks and pieces - I thought the more foliage the better and maybe I will get to use it in a meaningful way...
  4. http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-lavender-plant-stalk-3741 Stalks are available in a new color: Lavender While I like the idea of lego releasing new foliage, new colors I am not quite sure about this color. What do you think about getting stalks in lavender? How could these be implemented in landscaping?
  5. I have given up thinking about lego scale and how out of scale everything is, animals, accessoiries, or medieval women and how they are always taller than men (I know they wearing very high heels :) ). Last thing that made me laugh is the lego wine bottle - if put next to it, it reaches a minifigs belly button ( if it has one that is :) ).
  6. :) You just have to put up with the fact that theres gonna be bricks that you can never ever use in a meaningful way - other than they were intended to be used for. Think off those big donut pieces :)
  7. Yes, unfortunately the last proper western theme was a long time ago - the lone ranger flopped but the sets were awesome IMHO.
  8. I would love to see some robin hood sort of theme (maybe Disney will bring out a movie :) ) - some forestmen defending poor villagers from the sheriff of nottingham - it would be nice if that could be turned into a big bang theme. But I guess robin hood is no longer popular with the kids these days.
  9. Since there arent any interesting sets to buy for me (hopefully it will change next year) I will stick to the occastional pab cups at lego stores. I decided to take a slower approach as space has become a problem. I bought lots pab and bap bags in the past but due to the high price will have to cut down on those as well.
  10. Chances are pretty slim that I will be in a lego store during that time ... if the promotion lasted a whole month - maybe... I had hoped to go to the vienna store in the beginning of June, so I could get that park set, but my boss send me last week and I got that bird, yep, that bird :(, the brickwall selection wasnt anything to write home about either.... :( Definitely not gonna waste 50 EUR on some shop@order, if bricks and pieces would count to merchandise - then OK, but wasting 50Eur on a pab order is out of the question.
  11. Lego standards can be a pain the neck - its always out of any scale...
  12. 1) After my first purchase at shop@home I realized there is something like VIP points. A couple of days later I had my VIP number. 2) VIP points are quite good. I(double VIP points even better). Some freebies are nice (but not all), I especially dislike online freebies that you get for about 30 EUR - like the current bird - in order to get free shipping you have to spend more anyway. Freebies should be better (55 EUR threshhold level) 3) No influence here - right now there arent any interesting sets and themes out there (for me) - don't see how the vip program could change that 4) I would like to see better sets (or even sets at all) with historic context - classic castle/pirates, wild west or something entirely new and different. If Lego doubts these sets would be succesful on a mainstream level - maybe they could bring out a lego exlusive vip series which brings out nice sets for history buffs - 5) I always thought treatment at lego stores was nice until I went to the lego store in vienna - donauzentrum - they are by far the best! Hope to get to Vienna soon.
  13. I am just a year into lego but 2016 must be the worst year ever :) at least so it seems to me. There is actually not a single theme that would be to my liking. No proper castle theme, pirates is gone, the wild west is probably not gonna come back anytime soon (after the lone ranger)
  14. I took on deliveries to vienna to get to the lego store... :)
  15. I think his point is that lego is creating sets nowadays which come with lots of different parts that you cannot do make a lot with except go along with the instructions. I think there is some truth to it. On the other hand, the whole idea of lego ruining creativity couldnt be more far fetched. Lego is a toy. A set is basically a toy. You get what you paid for, a car, a plane, a castle etc. You could buy a different toy which didnt require building it, though. Lego however, comes in parts, and those parts all fit together and enable you to build something entirely different, its up to you and your creativity. Its like crayons, you can buy some crayons and a coloring book or just draw and paint on a blank sheet. Hey, :), in this regard, coloring books would ruin creativity as well, right? No really, IMHO this guy just wanted to make some noise, and make himself know to the world or something. In the end Lego is what you make of it. If you are creative, you will find ways, maybe becoming more creative, or as I would put it, more experienced. Personally I am not too creative and have a hard time building something - I do it for me and its fun and relaxing. But also stressful :). Maybe Lego should create sets with versatility in mind - providing at least one alternative build for every set. Thus they would show little children the versatility and creativity that is surrounds those little lego bricks.
  16. Thanks! Another (stupid) question: I have a couple of tracks already from the silver mine - these can be attached to a baseplate. How about curved tracks? How do you attach those?
  17. Thanks for the reply - I have been struggling with the idea of buying that constitution train for quite some time - its about 50% more expensive than at launch right now. Buying those extra components to make it running will be another 50% added... still havent made up my mind, though. I dont really want to buy any of those city trains - those colors are not really suitable for building western trains IMHO. Yes, I kinda restrict myself to historic themes
  18. Just to be on the safe side: If I buy a non-motorized lego train (like the constitution), will this additional elements be sufficient to get it motorized or do I need anything else? 88002 8879 8884 sorry, just checked I need 88000 as well to get some power :) but these should be everything right?
  19. Exactly! A couple of weeks back I went to vienna (doing some delivery), I spend 1 1/2 hours at the lego store and filled 6 big cups and 7 small ones (needed the small ones as storage bins otherwise I would have stuck with just big cups). I dont really like shopping and spending 1 1/2 hours at the store was quite exhausting. I didnt even try to maximise those cups as time was of the essence. I knew I could spend two hours max at the store until I had to move on, so I just filled those cups in a rush, otherwise I might have just managed to buy two or three cups - and how much more brick would I have gained by cleverly filling the cups, 10%? 20%? The situation would be different if I lived in Vienna (or any other lego store city) - I guess I would pay weekly or bi-weekly visits and buy just one cleverly filled cup :)
  20. Hey Guys I am somewhat new to Lego and basically into historic themes. Recently I got the idea of getting into trains as well - they can be put into historic contexts as well :) My question to you: After having seen quite a few train displays on the net I realized that most trains actually run on a flat surface. Is it even possible to have a lego train running up and down a mountain?
  21. I hope lego will revolutionize the classic castle theme in the future. Yesterday I managed to purchase my first cmf grim knight and really like that fig. The knights design of 2013 might not have been totally bad but there is so much more possible.
  22. Just btw, I recently bought a couple of cups and realized that many elements (bricks and plates) have a higher clutch power than usual. This is not a bad thing to me by any means, I actually prefer it. There is also a certain squeakiness to it.... Has anyone else had a similar experience or knows why that is?
  23. Thanks for the tip! I will use light blue tr plates for the shoreline and dark blue for everything else - hopefully I will suffer it through and finally present something on this forum... usually things get too complicated or I dont like what I see and then I stop :(
  24. Thanks! I was playing around yesterday with it a little bit and was kinda amazed how the effect changes when you use different backgrounds - makes the whole thing even more complicated than I thought - having lots of options is great
