  1. Indeed. As far as I'm aware that's the only way to get them to work on 64 but machines. I have had the idea of using DOSBox to try amd install and run the software and drivers, since ir emulates 16bit hardware. I'll investigate and see if it works.
  2. And a year and a half later, I found these again, dusted them off and set about getting them to work. 5 hours after that, I had them running off my Windows 8 64bit machine (while using a VM). Was a lot of surfing the net, looking for files, patience, frustration, patience and more patience. Would there be a demand for a tutorial on how I set these up for anyone else who has problems with them and no access to the Serial Towers? Save them the horrible time I had with these. Maybe now I can build some of Philo's creations and maybe some of my own. Might even be able to get my school to let me loose on their 8 (if not more only counted these loose in a tub) old RCX units and kit. Don't think they know how to get them to work at the moment. P.S: Sorry for the bump
  3. I think this picture from his website sums it all up: Wow. P.S: Clicking the picture takes you straight to his website, and the list of trucks he's made  Fabulous work!
  4. Chitty! Love that film! Great progress you've made there, and the wheel colour is brill Intrigued to see how you get the wings and prop to deploy, that's going to be a challenge and a half right? "Your sleek as a thoroughbred. Your seats are a feather bed. You'll turn everybody's head today. We'll glide on our motor trip With pride in our ownership The envy of all we survey. Oh Chitty You Chitty Pretty Chitty Bang Bang Chitty Chitty Bang Bang We love you."
  5. There was one at Birmingham and one at Kingston I think, but they both got closed. Please correct me if I am wrong someone. A quick Google at least reveals that they both existed at some point in time...
  6. Nice Office, that 42000 mounted on the wall looks really good! We all now know what you get up to when you're bored
  7. Mind blown! It looks so realistic! Absolutely fantastic job there, top notch
  8. I think maybe instead of having some rigid system, it should be more laid back. Maybe the general idea is just to get more focus on good MOCs each month, and push some more to the frontpage, for which you get awarded the MoM tag (unless you want to exclude the Pro ones, who will just have a Pro tag I assume?). This way if there are more than one great MOC in that month, both people can still "win"? May compensate for slow months as well if more get featured in preceeding/proceeding months.
  9. Using a crank rather than a gear works much better, as you can continuously turn it without having to remove your hand (I find using a frictionless pin works best as a handle, although you could put a axle connector on there too if you want a bigger handle). Easier deployment of the LAs, and without a horrible ache in your wrist.
  10. Couple years ago, picked up a new 8043 for £100 in some new year sale. Was a great bargain, saved a third!
  11. If you look closely at the double bent liftarms you can see just above the bottom one a grey pin; suggesting it is frictionless, so could act as a pivot point. Also to the left of each wheel in that picture is a yellow shock, and on the previous picture you can see them just to the right of the wheels on the axles
  12. 42006 looks like a good parts pack, looking at the recent years of sets there doesn't seem to have been many tracked vehicles since 8043 so looks like a good choice, especially with those LAs, very useful. I agree with you in terms of 1H 2014, not a lot seems interesting to me as well, although 42024 doesn't seem too bad in terms of parts if you're looking for LAs and Gears, it has it's fair share of those it seems. I prefer 42006 though as a set. You can however pick up LAs on BL for around £3.50 each, if you need them without buying a set
  13. 42009 is a good parts pack, a plethora of beams from that, with the yellows, greys and blacks. 8258 was also a great parts pack, if you can get one cheaply (I hear the price is through the roof since it retired); again plenty of neutral colours and the red, with some yellow. Flagships generally make great parts packs from what I have bought, have all of them since the 8258 and they do a good job of bolstering the collection. Happy Collecting!
  14. Don't think we will ever see the return of the Power Puller Wheels. If we ever do see anything similar they would at least be lighter I'd have thought. Not much they make these days though requires such large tires, the 8110 or 9398 wheels suffice, and they are large models in themselves. Not too please at the moment by the news of the Volvo Front Loader, but and not going to make a final judgement until we find out more. There might be something beneath all the yellow that might make it worthwhile. Bulldozer seems interesting though, don't recall having seen one made in that parts scale before.
  15. They are most definitely not crap, I like that, nice mix of studless and studfull construction, and with a bit of tweaking would probably work just like you wanted! Always love seeing people's compact RC mobiles, and that's a fine job with fitting the pendular suspension in there. With those large wheels and an XL motor in the mix, I can imagine that moving quite quickly too! Mighty fine job. Also reminded me to do some more work myself on compact RC cars. Having two running around is much fun, racing them around with family/friends. Cheers P.S: You have the same place-mats on your table as I do
  16. I think it is referring to the crank that's used to wind the trailer legs down, correct me if I'm wrong:
  17. Woah, I'm glad this topic got dug up a bit. Would never have found it. Fantastic Model! A Quick visit to rebrickable shows that I have ~97% of the parts in sets, and the missing parts I know I have apart from the Mini Turntables (Will either buy some or mod it). Definitely going to have a stab at building this MOC once I finish with my 42009 and disassemble my 9398/8043 for the motors I'll also be attempting the AA BB mod, as I have no AAA one or rechargeable. Looking forward to playing with this! Great job!
  18. This. This is something that would appeal to me, and lots of cars/vehicles I'm sure would be popular with kids. If they were made cleverly we wouldn't be able to complain for functions (As long as it wasn't turn a knob and the bonnet opens) In terms of their design, I will agree that the ideas might be getting a bit stale, variation wouldn't go amiss but however each iteration of a design like the mobile crane for example has its own charm and fun when building/playing. 8053 is a mobile crane. On no level can it be said it is "the same" as 42009. Different scale, functions, design etc. I dont own 8421 but I'd bet the case is similar there. In summary, ideas are stale, not the execution. Each set ia very different, just recycled ideas.
  19. I thought the 42009 was huge intil I saw this, that sure is amazing! Going to keep tabs on this, fantastic! The cab looks great, really good representation of the R Series. Also looking forward to see what it'll carry!
  20. I would peraonally find it interesting to see some kind of truck but with a trailer; a lowloader or something. Teuck doesn't have to be huge, they could design somwthing to put on the trailer as well, a car with various functions. A lowloader would be fun with RC, but I don't see it have many functions, just drive a bucket. It wpuld need to have something really special with it to make it appealing, otherwise I wouldn't buy it. I have enough yellow already.
  21. Nice review, just bought my 42009 and I am enjoying the build a lot. However it seems people have spare 32L axles. I didn't find two in my box, just the one. I can see them being very useful in MOCs so is it worth raising the issue with TLG; ask for another one to be sent? Cheers ~Azz
  22. Wouldn't be too bad though if it was turned through 90 degrees. Would make a nice headrest.
  23. Was about to say the date until I spotted it was wrong in the last image too Myself I like the Blue and White version best. Orange and Green doesn't do it for me, and Technic seems to be known for an overdose in yellow.
  24. You sir, deserve a medal Best justification ever
