Finding Parts for Technic MOCs
TBS replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
One thing i forgot to mention, you´ll have to delete the items in the wanted list which come down to zero, i.e. you got complete. And also add some again in case a seller is informing you of being short ? parts of #1. -
Lego Technic 2h 2013
TBS replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi you, for all those interessted i did a little counting of what we get with 42008 which i find exceptional great. i just love this set. 42009 does look very good, but its just a giant parts pack to me, as i am "not into cranes" somehow. I have heard it comes within the Unimog price range. While the Unimog had a lot of new part-molds and pneumatic as well as some PF, they seem able to keep the prices because 42009 has just a battery box and an L-Motor, besides tons of standard parts. (from an production point of view) Lets get back to my analysis of the service truck. Mainly the new green parts. The chance to get us green liftarms thick 1x3, 1x5, and 1x11 must be passed on another possible future sets. It would have been a great chance, but there is a restriction of how many lots are stocked by lego a year. its around 7000 i think. I am very thankful the Lego-Designers decided to do such a model in green, an with all the nice new beams and this extraordinary parts variety within this set. Biggest Thumbs up from me. As a summary, here is what i counted. No guarantee, might have missed some (invisible). Green parts: Liftarm: 1x3 thin - 18 1x7 - 4 1x9 - 7 1x13 - 6 3x5 corner - 21 or more (there is a chance for 2less and 2 - 1x5 next to the first vertical panel 5x11 - but only the Instruction can tell us...) Panels: 5x11 - 5 Small ones - 2 of each Micro ones 3 of each Red: Micro ones red - 2 of each Black: Curved 3x11 old version - 3 New thin liftarm +000+ - 4 or more. Other good stuff: Pneumatic cylinder small - 2 Compressor - ( i hope the 6L-Unimog one ) - 1 Pneumatic valves - 2 Linear Actuator - 1 Mini Linear Actuators - 2 and a nice bunch off gears... I will have to buy some service trucks extra i guess... The small 42001 set seems to be very disappointing. It is hanging on the hook of 42009 in one of the youtube-videos. Spotted in orange: 2 thin liftarms 1x3, one pair of the micro panels and i assume 2 orange bionucle tooths. Rest, a few standard parts. The 9390 Minimog did this way better. 42005 is also one to pass... Cu Tom- 902 replies

Finding Parts for Technic MOCs
TBS replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi David and all the others, i read this yesterday evening and was somehow disappointed by it, because i feel the sellers try to do a lot to get things right. I am sorry its felt so frustrating to you, but its like learning to drive a car. First you´re annoyed by everthing, once you figured out how it works, its pure fun and you ask yourself why there were such problems at the start. Furthermore, its the curse of " the instant gratification"-syndrom of modern times, no one wants to invest some kind of time or thoughts anymore, which is not rewarded immediatly thereafter. Anyway, lets try to ease your pain and get you some adives getting started with BL. I assume you are using the wanted lists with bricklink, which you uploaded and the data came from external sources like moc-inventories. i.e. There is one thing which many of my friends and costumers didnt notice and got them angry. Basically i am hearing your type of Problem a lot of times. One way to speed up your effoert to get the right parts encounters the following problem. As good as these wantedlists are, they are in most of the cases dull-"overoptimized". Usually, they contain a number of parts, lets say. 70 #1 @ 5 cent , 20 #2 @15 cent and so on. Using those as reference must lead to frustration. You prevent your success because you ignore all the shops which have not the exact configuration of your list. this is total crap. In worst case you have to order those 70 pieces of #1 in an extra order. Thats why you are so annoyed with minimumorders. The problem is you get not shown all the parts in the stores - only those quantities above 70 and below 5 cent. I advise you to rework your wanted list. As quantity of each lot type 1 and as max price 50 euro or something. There is a line for remarks right next to it. In this line you type F70 - 005, which means you need further 70 of these parts and the medium price is 5 cent. Do this with all the lots. After you placed an order there is a link for "show items in wanted list". Open this, and your order placed in another tab and start to deduct the numbers bought from the numbers left. Your new remark would be F55-005 then. You will have to do this before every new placed order. Choose the store with the highest number of rare lots first. I Agree, its a bit more work and only a work-around, but its leading to much better results: -Min-order, is mostly no concern. -Far less orders required. -Pricing might be better. Let the price just be a guideline. It doesnt matter that much. If you could get all the 70 parts of #1 within 3 to 4 orders you will need anyway its no problem. Maybe you bought 15 @ 10ct, 25 @ 2cent and 30 @ 5 cent. The medium price is still quite good, and you don´t have to make a fourth order for this lot only, because you didnt buy the parts the sellers had in shop on your orders before. I hope i could help you, getting okay with ordering parts. Furthermore, it makes no sense to complain about rare parts being pricey, as for example the yellow panels. There is NO stock of them anymore, NEITHER for the Sellers NOR for the Buyers. Thats why the pricing is rather high, if i could get a lot of these parts from somewhere, i would offer them, but there is NO material around. So you might have bought an expensive part, but its prices aren´t likely to fall quite soon, which one could keep in mind, too. Nice weekend to all. Tom -
Enough "lift" for helicopter flight
TBS replied to trekman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Juan ///Ok.......... Minute 2 shows it flying in circles with the above attached device that keeps it in place but you left out the liftoff part in that piece of unveiled video that would have proven your liftoff claim. /// Here is a symbolic pic of the "device" you mean which is clearly to see. http://www.stanleylondon.com/auscale1.jpg Of course there must be a string, its also visible. The balanced weight which the rotors have to move was maybe 10-15 gram in order to lift or to land on the ground. So one side had to have balanceweight / magnets as heavy as the plane. Its that simple. What shall i tell else ? ///What about at the 1:20 mark when the engines cut out and it seems to float to the ground? When the engines began to cut off one would think that it should have fell like a rock./// See above. ~10 gram on a string don´t drop like a stone. Watch all the Videos of my pal itchy, The rotors were steered with the big IR-control, you can accelarate them slowly, also turn down this way as well as instant via the red button. (this is what you mean by rotor instant off) ///There have been several other points made about how the liftoff looks "staged" the wings showing no signs of flex is another key that seems to go unexplained./// Nothing is staged, considering Videos we´re to "dumb" and lazy to make any special FX at all. The wings are full liftarms and sturdy. Nothing has to flex here. balanced weight is 10 gram. @LasseD ///Can someone please ask those guys in German if they claim that this model lifts itself /// Yes. again balanced weight is 10 gram. ///and would be able to do so without the string which clearly has to be used to lift it?/// Of course not. Lego is a good toy, but will and can never be the same as an aerodynamic fuel-driven RC model-plane. No one ever made that claim. These are 2 different shoes and should be clear at first sight. @Juan ///So TBS, you are telling all of us that if you took this plane to an open field with absolutely no string attached to it what so ever, and you turned on the propellers that it would actually lift off of the ground and into the air and be stable there?/// No, i never did. LEGO Motors / XL-Motors, even 4, will never lift 2 bulky kilogram plastic in the air. How did you get that idea from what i wrote ?? Some little gram work as you have seen, its about the balanceweight! @SOK ///I'm not sure what you are trying to do, but it's not flying,/// Depends on the viewpoint. it lifts, lands, and flies forward by itself as long the rope lets it. ///so stop pretending./// Never did, Its my pals vids... i post this just for explanation and understanding how it worked. ///The only thing it does is move itself through air while suspended on a wire./// haha... thats great, brought into 2-3 words for youtube, how would you name this method of moving then ?????????? flying maybe? Did you ever believe this is a plane made of bulky lego-bricks which flies like the real ones ??? With an light sensitve LEGO-IR Control ??? This must be joke of you. However its a Lego-device moving through the air controlled. And for this its quite good, and was fun seeing it in real. Hope you understood me. Tom -
Enough "lift" for helicopter flight

Hi Juan, have a little trust. It really lifts of. Its not impossible. The "spinning around thing" is the counterweight. Of course the plane can´t fly by itself in each direction nor can it be steered straight, left and right like a real one. How do you expect to overcome aerodynamic wings, weight, etc, with technic beams and so on.? Come on. There is also no Lego Rotor usable for this which has enough "pressure". Actually it is to be seen as a diversuit. You have the airtanks which lift you up and your other weight which dimishes this effect. In order to get "zero gravitiy" underwater you may need counterweights (lead blocks), which equals the balance to zero. This is exactly what you see here. The plane is almost exactly balanced, so it really lifts off. The rotors just don´t have to overcome the weight which was 1.5 - 2 kilogram. (I was the cameraman of some of the videos) Soft lifting and landing is possible, as to be seen some times. Of course the plane can´t fly to other places like your neighborhood, but it does as far the rope let it go. The faster it went, the higher it came. So for everyone NOT expecting to have a fully functional A-380 in Lego, the plane is really flying. ;-) See minute 2 to get the idea. Tom aka tomsbrickstore.de -
I really like this Set... Nice thingy. Moving rotor blades for $40.. these were other times... while studing the catalogues you´ll notice over time... functions as well as parts cut down a bit year by year. its like chocolate... fewer nuts and smaller bars for increased prices In this price range its the best set compared to 8048 or 8262 to me, and finally we get more than a hand full of nice white pieces again. i am totally sick of yellow, red and black, so i am happy this set and the coming 8073 bucket truck is a source for white beams and panels. great. Lets see if we get some lime and more blue again 2012... The only thing i don´t like in design is the "windscreen" flex-hose, which looks weird this way. It should have better started at the end of the red frontpanels. Tom

Hi Mifody, thanks for the nice review and all the pics. I bought some of the banks too, as i personaaly consider it the best city set for 2 years. Those hoping to get some at sales, i wish you luck, as i have heared only a few, compared to other sets, have been produced. What makes this set outstanding to me is: all the nice details, having a bank once again since 20 years (#1490) - (junior-city 1998? doesn´t count) The money transporter - great detail, ideas, and color sceme. 3661 - Dislikes: extended wheels outside mudguards for years on all the small cars, what a cra* . Did Lego lost their mold for 2x2 wheelholderplates ? Lego, don´t you find them again?, go make a new one ! Creditcards... disgusting... turning, shaping, little children slowly, unconsciously, into middle-class debtslaves. Funny Things i noticed... The computer-screen... did your stocks go down on purpose ??? Mifody... Your bankrobber is a real Dumba**. takes the paper, leaves the gold... neither you nor the box-designers did get that... to quote Bertold Brecht (?) rather freely: "robbing a bank is a joint venture of morons, founding one, one of pros" Tom
