I love these MOCs. I also love how you go into how you made them. I might have to replace some of this here later for my own LEGO Superman. Thanks for sharing!

JJ-Trek is Star Trek for Star Wars fans. Abrams has basically said as much without using the exact words. Hence, I don't expect the reboot films to add to the fandom of say DS9 or The Animated Series. Mostly, reboot fans stay reboot fans, which view the reboot series as just a fun pop corn romp, which is what they are.

Never say never! I'd like to believe this franchise will ride again one day! I'd love to see sets based on Atlantis and Treasure Planet! I have no idea if official sets are a realistic thing, but maybe a few of these characters might show up in a future version of the Disney minifigures collection? Gargoyles? Darkwing Duck? Now you're talking! I think we NEED Disney Afternoon LEGOs. Add DuckTales, Gummi Bears, Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop and TaleSpin into the mix and I'm sold!

A few thoughts. First, thanks for your kind words and I agree, the current reboot films are made for opening weekend and maybe showing off your 4K TV set. They are not meant to be remembered in so many years like the classic franchise was. I don't feel that the Kre-O sets didn't sell very well just because they are Kre-O. Not very many people care enough about JJ-Trek to bring home the action figures from those films the same way they would TOS or TNG. I bet LEGO would have similar issue if they made sets based on the reboot franchise. Second, I'm not a fan of the streaming, but only because it's on a CBS specific service. Could you imagine if every studio did what CBS is doing? After a while that would start to defeat the point of cord cutting it would get so pricey for your average consumer! Two thoughts. First, I agree for TNG specifically, DST did a great job. Ditto TOS and to a point even DS9. However, they never really finished Enterprise and outside of 7 of 9, Voyager is a complete no show. And that's my point. As a fan of all of the classic franchise, I want one single collection that covers all five main bridge crews. That does not exist as of right now. Again, LEGO would be a perfect brand to fix this issue. Second, I also agree, Star Trek has been trying too hard to be Star Wars. While I am hard on the reboot series, even I have to admit that the TNG films even tried to be more like Star Wars than Star Trek, which is too bad. The trouble with the Star Trek films is that after Kahn, the powers that be kept trying to replicate that film with a new villain in each film, Star Trek IV being an exception. :( On to a slightly more LEGO friendly topic, has anyone here made custom Star Trek LEGO minifigures or sets? I'd love to see them! Please post below if you do!

Just to get it out of the way, I have zero interest in this film and want this LEGO set to do as badly as I want the film itself to flop. Why? Because I want this reboot to be a one and done and the reality is that box office isn't the only factor. Another factor is how merchandise does, and that includes this set. I want a clear message being sent to Sony: Don't ever do this again. That said, once it's been established one way or the other the future of this franchise, and if I happen to have the extra money, I might at a much later date consider picking this set up at that time. I agree that TLG did a great job designing this set and those female minifigure hair pieces look awesome! I also love how the reboot Ecto-1 does a much better job of having space for all four main characters to sit, unlike the Lego Ideas set of the original Ecto-1. That was in my mind the biggest flaw of that original set. I could see mixing some of the parts from this set with custom ideas for my main GB sets. So, good review and thanks for sharing! :D

I'm just going to add my two cents here for whatever it's worth. I agree that right now, Star Trek is kind of a dead franchise. Every few years Paramount reanimates the body for one of those Star Wars in Star Trek clothing films by JJ Abrams, but over all Star Trek is probably not going to see the popularity it had in the 1990's ever again. I feel part of the issue is the powers that be were not able to maintain the interest of children. A good second animated series could have helped to fix that. That by the way is an important factor. A few years ago StarTrek.com had a poll asking fans at what age did they first become a fan of the franchise. I don't remember the exact results, but the basic takeaway was that the current franchise was mostly built on the interest of children first who grew up with the franchise. I'm talking 7 to 12-year-olds. I know that was the case with myself. I was originally part of the normal fads for my age. He-Man, ThunderCats, TMNT, and so on. But once I got hooked on Star Trek, I never looked back and in fact carried that fandom well into my adulthood. I personally lost interest when the last show, Enterprise, was canned and then a few years later when JJ Abrams made his reboot film. Star Wars on the other hand, while I'm not nearly as big of a fan, I have to admit has done a much better job of engaging younger audiences and holding them into adulthood. That's how long standing franchise stay evergreen by the way. If you think about it, most if not all of the really big franchises cater to kids as much as adults. Especially now that Disney is running the show, Star Wars might never slow down, or at least will keep going for a few more generations. Now, as to how that translates to LEGO, putting current licensing to Mega Blocks aside, I agree right now that it would be a hard sell to kids. I feel CBS could help fix this with one good animated property, and by focusing the Trek franchise back into being a multi-generational property, like it was in the 80's and 90's, but I'm also not sure the current powers that be know what they are doing with Star Trek. And that's really sad, because so far as LEGO sets go, I feel that Star Trek is the largest untapped licensed franchise that LEGO hasn't done something for. With the vast amount of characters and ships, a Star Trek line could easily rival the Star Wars line in sheer number of sets produced. I know that many fans online claim that Star Wars is the biggest reason Star Trek would never get LEGO sets. I think that's hog wash. DC and Marvel are major rivals and yet they both gets LEGO sets. Warner/ Hanna Barbera and Disney are rivals and yet we get Disney sets/mini-figures at the same time we get things like Scooby Doo sets, and that's not even talking about sets from rivals like Sony and their Angry Birds. My point is that LEGO is not afraid of juggling rival brands at the same time if allowed too. I think the two biggest reasons are of course the licensing issues and then potential consumer interest. Point blank, if LEGO had been doing these licensed sets back in the 80's, we'd have had at least a few TOS and TNG sets a while ago. On to my own personal feelings and frustrations, as a fan of the classic franchise (i.e. TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, Voyager & Enterprise), I'm sick of previous Star Trek figure lines that never produce all five major captains and bridge crews. The reason why I'm not going to buy the Mega Blocks sets (besides the fact that they aren't LEGO) is that I'm tried of buying Kirk and crew over and over and over again. I want Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer and their crews to be equally featured and that just doesn't happen. The closest was the Playmates and DST lines from the 90's and 2000's, but both of them missed the mark. I feel that LEGO would be perfect format for collectability of these characters in plastic. As such, I've decided to commission various minifig customers to create custom Star Trek figures. The only trouble with that is that it's pricey, takes a long time to get done and some of the figures might not look as nice as I'd like them too, especially the aliens. However, despite these issues, I'm happy with what I have so far. That said, if LEGO ever made an official something from Star Trek, I'm there with bells on!

That's about where I am. I'm a much bigger fan of properties like Flintstones or Johnny Quest anyway, but I'm OK with some Scooby as long as his paired with other HB characters.

I'm in the same boat guys, only have so much money. Even $200 may be more than my wallet can handle once. If it's $100 to $150, while I'll have to save up, that is a much better price point for me. I'd rather collect parts along the way and add on to the castle to make it bigger.

Disney Classic Projects: Pinocchio, Sword in the Stone, Bambi
milojthatch replied to vedosololego's topic in LEGO Licensed
Fully agreed! Keep it between $30 to $100 and I don't see why sets like this would not do very well. In Downtown Disney in Anaheim, I could so see the one-two punch between Disneyland and the LEGO Store. These things could be everywhere! -
Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

Agreed. I'll be going after all of these except those two. I already have a Buzz and I have so many LGM's, I'm good. It's clear to me though that they were added to make it easier for the LEGO molders. No worries, I get it. Would not be shocked if Woody was in the next wave for the same reason.- 4,155 replies

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

I saw some "Miles from Tomorrowland" Duplo sets at my local Target today and it made me think, LEGO and Disney have gotten real chummy the last few years, huh? I guess it makes this new CMF line the natural next step.- 4,155 replies

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
milojthatch replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
You know, you never know. While I don't expect Disney Afternoon characters getting the LEGO treatment, it wouldn't shock me if a few did. Disney originally gave up on releasing the shows on DVD about a decade ago and yet thanks to fan support, started releasing some of these shows again on DVD two years ago. Around 2010 there were new comics, of which there will be brand new ones again this year, and 2010 also had the Vinylmation releases. This last year multiple stores in the US started caring DuckTales, Gargoyles, Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin and Darkwing Duck T-Shirts. Further, there is the 2017 DuckTales reboot AND there is a good chance Darkwing Duck might be added at some point to the Disney Infinity game. There is at least a lot of support both from fans and some of the people working on the game for that to happen. My point is, don't count these characters out just yet. ;)- 4,155 replies

If Lego Indiana Jones got rebooted...?

The reports say we might even get the next Indiana Jones film in 2018. That's just a few years away. Not very long at all actually. -
If Lego Indiana Jones got rebooted...?
milojthatch replied to legosamsonite's topic in LEGO Licensed
I fully expect there will be more PotC and Indy sets down the line. However I agree with many here who say it won't happen until the next installment of each franchise. I really see both as just a matter of time though. -
Great job! I too wish DIsney would allow their characters to be part of Dimensions. Too bad DIsney Infinity exists.

I love it! Well done!

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
milojthatch replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I hear what you are saying, but then think about how Disney Infinity is on it's third version and Goofy still hasn't shown up over there. It might not be the slam dunk it should be. Fully agreed! I want Zorro! And Sergent Garcia! I kind of have to agree with you, but it would be a real shame if only some of the dwarfs got minifig treatment. Yes, it would strike me as odd to even have Ursula in there if Ariel isn't included as well.- 4,155 replies

What licensed themes would you like to see?
milojthatch replied to BearHeart's topic in LEGO Licensed
This is pure speculation and hope, but I'm betting that after the new Star Wars is out on Blu-ray and the next one is out, Disney might finally start working on Indiana Jones 5. If/when that film comes out, I have a hard time believing that there wouldn't be new LEGO sets for the film or that all the sets would be based on the then new film. Ditto Pirates of the Caribbean. I bet more sets from both are in our future. -
Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion

Dormammu needs to be bigger then a normal mini figure though. I agree though, they need to put him in the film. There is no guarantee that Doc Strange is getting a sequel, so I say go big for this first one! -

Maybe. I worry it would just come off as lame though. I kind of see Timon as an "accessory" figure just because of his size.- 4,155 replies

What licensed themes would you like to see?
milojthatch replied to BearHeart's topic in LEGO Licensed
I know it might be a pipe dream, but I really, really, really want to see LEGO Star Trek! And not the new reboot series, I mean Classic Star Trek. Something based off of the first ten films and six series. And I don't just want multiple sets with Kirk, Spock and Picard. I want sets with characters like Tom Paris, Odo, Trip Tucker, Q, etc. It pains me that Star Wars has so many sets and that even Dr. Who now has an official set and yet Star Trek keeps getting the trash heap. Star Trek NEEDS some LEGO love! However, that said, I worry it may never happen. Those crappy Kre-O figures didn't sell well. And maybe it's because they were Kre-O and maybe it was because they were based on the reboot series or maybe a little of both? I have not heard good things however from the Prime Universe Star Trek Minimates either, or really any Star Trek related toy aimed at children. I worry, as much as it pains me to admit this, that Star Trek is a brand that no longer attracts children the way it used to. Gone are the days from the 1990's were the Star Trek action figures had as much shelf space in Toys R Us as the Star Wars figures. My hope is that these Mega Blocks sets do well to the point that they last a few years and exploit all five main bridge crews and not just TOS, and then in a few years CBS moves the rights over to LEGO. I just worry that won't be the case. Custom LEGOs might be the best we ever get. :( -
I am super excited for this! He looks perfect for the role. :D

I'm new to this particular forum, but not new to the idea of forums. I've even been an Admin a few times, so I've seen both sides of the fence. Really happy to be here and am excited to communicate with fellow LEGO fans.
