Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion
Cody Startale replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Thank you! Keep me updated if there's anything I should know about this matter. As I said, I would use those decals solely for facial expressions, not for custom torsos or anything. -
Isn't that unlikely, though? As far as I understand, they do not have the TMNT license anymore. They had it back in 2014 when they still released TMNT sets and had Michelangelo appear in The Lego Movie, but I think they have given up on the franchise entirely.

This thread has only one answer for me personally. One which is bitter-sweet for me to talk about, just because of how certain it is to never be realized. An up to 4 players coop Lego Ninja Turtles game. It would have been so, SO good.

That was very well done! I really enjoyed it. First, the overall plot – I very much like that it is "old school" Star Wars, so to say. I mean that it's not all Jedi and lightsabers and force usage and stuff, but instead it's just a bunch of Rebels fighting the evil Empire with commandos and space battles, and that's how I like my Star Wars best. The physical animation, the stop motion parts I mean, are extremely well executed and very impressive. The digital mouth and body animations are an extremely clever idea, though they could be executed better. For example, you have a lot of shots that are actually still images and only have your characters move digitally. I those cases, it would probably be a good idea to photoshop in a clean version of the head with removed facial features, and then animate the faces on top of that. This way, you can avoid numerous animation flaws that are currently produced by your technique, like smeared eyes when characters are blinking or parts of the facial features seem to overlay and cover moving parts and stuff. Also, in a few instances (just a few, don't worry), I think the digital movement was actually too much. Mouths, eyes, jars, it all worked very well and brought your characters to life a lot. Shoulders and stuff might be a bit too much and would have benefitted from actual stop motion, I guess. But overall, I think you found a very good balance and combined everything very well. Technically speaking, I think the quality could be improved to outright excellent levels if you used a more sophisticated lighting setup. As of now, your animation is slightly brought down by the fact that the movie has an overall yellowish tint that reminds me of a desk lamp and most shots have visible noise due to being a little too dark for your photography settings. If you can fix those things, your image quality will be a lot better and make your work outright beautiful to look at. The space battles need to be more fast-paced. This gets easier when you have more digital compositing experience, but as of now, some scenes are a little slow, especially when blaster fire is involved which seems to be travelling at the speed of a Bantha. I do understand that you probably didn't have a lot of animation frames to work with, but in that case, it's all the more important to have the space battles be quick and fast-paced. If your spaceship is just one still image, better show it flying by and getting blown up for three seconds instead of ten, if you know what I mean? Now, I hope my criticism doesn't come off as pretentious or annoying, because it's really just meant to help. I am very impressed by your efforts and think that if you combined your obvious hard work with a little more excellency here and there, you will achieve something that's outright fantastic! Also, I am a visual artist, so I really dig all kinds of digital effects efforts and offer my opinion in order to help others improve whenever I see the promise of great work like here. If you need any help in the digital animation and vfx department for your next project, I would feel honored to be of assistance if I can! So to sum it all up, I think you did amirably and you should carry on, because I can't wait to see what you will come up with next time. Oh, and one last thing, I also enjoyed the voice acting. I think for non-professional speakers, it was very high quality. My favorite was the lad who starts speaking around the 01:00 mark. He actually reminded me of Ezra Bridger in the Rebels cartoon, I think he could do a neat impression of him.

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion
Cody Startale replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Don't forget to update your signature picture accordingly, Jannik. I have a question about the core rules. They state that customized sig-figs are in order. Does that only apply to my player avatar or also to the presentation within builds? What I am getting at is simply that I am running out of expressions with consistent facial features for my character and I am considering making a set of custom face decals for that very purpose to use in future entries. Would this be allowed? They will only be used for my main character and no one else. I am not looking for gaining an advantage in having my builds scored, but just for benefits of enhanced storytelling for entertainment purposes. -

What a great episode. Congratulations to everyone and especially to LL for the fantastic Virago model! It's quite impressive. Also, thanks to the judges for awarding my entry so many points. I was pleasantly surprised. :)

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Cody Startale replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Considering some of the prequel dialogues, maybe that's for the better, though. -
Sure thing. Just keep in mind that I prefer creating new designs and coming up with original stuff over replicating already existing things other people have done There's a link in my signature where you can also request decals directly from me on my blog and I will get an email notification. I do regularly check this thread here, too, and also follow it, but somehow, the notifications don't seem to work properly, unfortunately.

Here you go: I hope you realize that you cannot actually print the belt buckle ornament in silver, just grey, and that it isn't movie accurate, either: http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/darth/images/a/ab/BillyDee.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080201203945 Anyhow, have fun ;)

Yeah, I can adapt it tomorrow. How exactly do you want the creases "different"?
-
Is there anything from the OT that has not been built?
Cody Startale replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think Lars' Homestead and Ben Kenobi's hut would be great projects with varying scale, depending on how detailed you wanna build. Then, there's sorts of things you could do, like Mos Eisley streets, hangar bay 94 with the Falcon, the conference room on the Death Star, the trash compactor scene with Dianoga, the tractor beam controls with Ben Kenobi, the Kenobi and Vader duel with a blast door, Luke and Leia swinging across the chasm, the Yavin control room and/or hangar... actually, there's a lot of ANH scenes that have not made it into official sets yet. Finding something that has not been build by anyone, including fan MOCs, is gonna be an impossible feat, though, I'm afraid. -
How about this one?
-
To be honest, I am not too fond of the official design used in Lego TFA. I wanted my decal to be more movie-accurate, so it's a mixture of the official design and personal touches to resemble the movie more. For example, the Lego design has an ordinary rectangular belt buckle, but if you compare it with the movie costume, there's a different shape: http://www.mirf.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/forget-luke-skywalker-rey-as-jyn-erso-s-child-is-far-better-for-star-wars-episode-8-lu-9368811.jpg So, I can add the cloak to Luke's decal, but I don't plan to do an exact game replica, sorry... same goes for that Lando torso. The design you linked is not the official Lego design anyway, so I prefer movie-accuracy over being accurate to a 3rd party design. I hope you understand that.
-
I'll do that Cloud City torso, sure. On TFA Luke, I have been working for quite some time now, but I never got around finishing that one yet. Here's a preview, but I don't wanna release the design until it is really done. Also, I don't know if the tousled hair featured in the TFA game for Luke actually physically exists in that color, because if so, I want it really badly. That's my progress on it so far, but I want to add leg decals too, I've just never done them before.

Hello! Lando Calrission, both young and old, is finished: Have fun!

[MOC] UCS CR-90 Corellian Corvette – Blockade Runner (Tantive IV)
Cody Startale replied to mortesv's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Nothing short of perfection. Just looking at it, I feel physical excitement :) This has soooo much to look at and such brilliant details, and the colors are spot-on. The dark red parts are just excellent. I don't know what more to say, it is really a stunning beauty you have created there. Fantastic job.- 129 replies

[SoNE Ep. XII] E04 The Rat
Cody Startale replied to Commander Beltar's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
It took me some time to respond, mainly because I had to read through all your previous entries to fully grasp the narrative about Beltar. Another cool entry! Your building style is really spot-on and I also like the story, I don't think it's lackluster. Guess that's the last we've seen of Dar-Dar? I also like how a previous entry is tied in a bit with Kirana. Great stuff all around! Good job! -
LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Discussion
Cody Startale replied to TheBrickPal's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Yeah, too bad! Is that definitive, though? Like, isn't there a chance for a second season (with a different story, of course) if the show is popular enough? The protagonists just joined the rebels, it would be a shame for those characters to go to waste and not return to the screen! Also, Graballa will be dearly missed if that's the last we have seen of him Also, they just transformed the Star Scavenger into a new build, which is an excellent opportunity for them to release a new set based on it. Personally, I also wouldn't mind an Emperor's Control Room set with him, Vader and Naare. There's a lot of great scenes in this show to base new sets on, and I can easily see new seasons as the story has a lot of possibilities open. The Maker of Zoh would return for sure, as they ended his episode with a cliffhanger about him returning, and Naare could conveniently return to serve as the villain, too, with her "just" being frozen in carbonite. She would probably seek revenge against the Freemakers, only without the Empire having her back. So, I think they intentionally left open doors for possible sequel seasons, and I would love to see them! -
[SoNE Ep. XII] E02 - I am Providence
Cody Startale replied to Dannylonglegs's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
A great build! But what stands out to me most is that incredible droid. Great work! The way it looks I picture it moving similar to the droid seen in the TFA trailers at the outside of Maz Kanata's castle. I really like its stature and posing and combined with Goatman's entry, this is an exciting narrative! I can't wait to see how things will turn out for Danny in the long run! -
[SoNE Ep XII] E05 - Shock and Awe
Cody Startale replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Fan-ta-stic! What a great build, I am absolutely impressed! Actually, I am kinda at a loss for words right now. There's so many great details. The conveyor belts alone are incredibly clever and those welders and everything... fantastic. Also, a compelling narrative, as usual. I can totally see an operation like this happening in the Star Wars universe, with stormies entering a factory like that. Awesome! -
[SoNE Ep. XII] R03 Return to Hoth
Cody Startale replied to brickmasterben11's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Aw man, too bad! The picture quality is truly a shame, because from what I can tell, you have an actually pretty great build right there! If only we could view it in better quality, I would really like to see everything in more detail! But what I see, I really like. I think you kinda nailed that narrow, cramped Hoth-base look. If anything, I would have tried to give it a more icy-snowy look, perhaps with a white floor, too. Apart from that, I think it's a very cool build. Maybe you'll be able to provide some better images? However, cool build nevertheless! -
[SoNE Ep. XII] R07 Apart and On
Cody Startale replied to MontyPython's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Very nice! I couldn't help but laugh at the third picture – Wedar is awesome Seems like he enjoys his "work". I like that you incorporate different species in your entries, the diversity is a nice contrast to most Imperial builds which, typical for Star Wars, mainly feature humans. What I like best is that speeder in the last image. It's very clean and slick and really looks like something from Corellia. Good job! -
[SoNE Ep. XII] E08 - Raid on the Providence
Cody Startale replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
So Goatm An continues to give everybody the run-around? It seems you cannot pin that guy down! As expected from you, a fantastic entry with a great build, intruiging story and packed with awesome little details. Excellent collaboration effort, too, I really enjoy that sort of things, it makes Nar Eurbrikka feel so much more connected and alive. Also, I am growing more and more excited for a showdown between An and Kirana. Keep up the great work, I am looking forward to your next build! -
[SoNE Ep. XII] R09 - Looking for clues on Felucia
Cody Startale replied to Zaael's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Very good! That Felucia look is fascinating to look at. Some of the parts you used I didn't even know they existed in those colors! Very vibrant and gorgeous-looking. The overall layout itself seems a little bit barren, using a smaller space to give a sense of a denser vegetation would have helped with that, but on the other hand I see the necessity for the used space since you had to fit both a starship and a house in it and probably didn't want to have them sit right next to each other. The ship is a great effort, but I think I like that little house even more. It really gives off the vibe of someone living in his trailer in the wild and looks very Star Wars-like. Fantastic! Also, I think it's worth mentioning how you carefully chose a matching background for your scenery, which helps the overall mood a lot! All things considered, a great entry!- 4 replies
