Anyone ever made a minifig scale Apollo Saturn V?
Legostein replied to markcornell's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Hello! When I was much younger, I took all castle corner walls I had from all castle and pirate sets, because there were no round corners yet these days (at least not available to me) and build a nice large tower. I added some simple cones as engines on the bottom and a simple tip on the top. That was my Saturn V during childhood. Unfortunately there exist no photos, and it was of course quite primitive. When you browse BrickShelf, you will find a pretty immense and tall Saturn V rocket which comes most close to minifigure-scale. The figs have to fit into the Apollo ship in the tip of the rocket, which is actually the smallest part of it. BrickShelf member "junlegeo" shows his Saturn V rocket there. Cheers, ~ Christopher -
Hello everybody! Today, it's my pleasure to close a chapter. During the last months, we have seen capital combat ships, starfighters and planetary craft of the two major opponents of the prequel trilogy - Separatists and Republic. You'll find a summary of them all at the bottom of this post. What's still missing to complete these sets, are the starfighters of the Republic. There are fewer than for the Separatists' fleet, but they are at least as nice as them. Please find below the contents image of this topic. -------------------- With beginnning of the Clone Wars, a Republic starfighter force quickly was set-up with new sorts of starfighters. Hence I'd like to start with the Clone Wars TV series, where we already see in the very first chapter the new V-19 Torrent Starfighter. It's a completely new design, I just uploaded this week-end. It can fold up the middle wing in landing position just like in the series. The clone wars finally arrive the orbit of Coruscant in Revenge of the Sith, where we see the ancestor of the later X-Wing starfighter design - the Aggressive Reconnaissance-170 Starfighter or simply ARC-170 as it is often referred to. This week-end I regarded the official model again, and thought it was quite bulky, especially the simple 1x2 inverted slope for the nose. So I decided to do a different version. It really has nothing in common with the official model, except for being also 1-stud-wide. I also went for the new 1x2 clip plates for the S-foils to first avoid overlapping with the official model, and second I always found the trapezoid flags to wide. The S-foils should be more narrow than the wing itself, which is the case with the 1x2 clip plates, but not with the 2-wide trapezoid flags. In the end of the same movie we see the Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing Starfighter. Some design aspects were later used for the TIE fighter series, and when you listen carefully when they fly by in the movie, you'll recognize they already have the typical TIE fighter sound. Here I gladly used the new trapezoid flags. And finally added those fine 3-stud-long bars as guns which serve as attchment for the wings at the same time. The normal lightsabre bars are 4 studs long and looked much too long. It features the correct vertical engine assembly as well as the cover for the astromech droid. Both details are attached at the same hinge, making it a very compact design. -------------------- With these, the mini moc series is complete. As promised, here a summary of what we had over the last months. Republic: [ Capital Ships | Starfighters | Planetary vehicles ] Separatists: [ Capital Ships | Starfighters | Planetary Vehicles ] -------------------- With that I am done for today. Thank you for your interest and stepping by! All the best, ~ Christopher

Hello! Nice review! Although I still like the very first landspeeder best, this here finally gives us the old space engine in light bluish grey, which is very valuable addition to the bluish grey colour line. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! All those tiles and slopes give it a really smooth look. Is it intended to be a present time or future vehicle? Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! The huge bumper grill looks pretty impressive. But maybe you could explain what your abbreviation AFoC means. Not all readers might be familiar with it. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Infinite Space. Infinite Terror. Event Horizon.

Hello! Thank you. It's really amazing how large this vessel is. It must be at least several hundred meters. The small search & rescue vessel Lewis & Clark would be another nice ship from that movie. But I can't build that to scale with the Event Horizon, as bricks that small don't exist. Cheers, ~ Christopher -
Hello! I am not sure if I understood that sentence above. It sounds a bit confusing. I guess it's two sentences. Do you mean you used SNOT techniques for the underside of the wings? If so, it would be nice to see a picture with that. The ship itself looks nice. It reminds me to a hybrid of the HALO drop ship and the Aerial Hunter Killer from Terminator. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! That huge rotating laser turret is for sure impressive. I guess this fighter is designed for space only, and no atmospheric flights, as the proportions would allow a fast downfall only. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! It's a quick but very nice creation! Those big flame pieces are really valuable additions to the parts catalogue and every fire scene of course. I also like the brick-built lava you created with the many shades of red and yellow colours. This looks very cool hot! Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! Those motor block pieces as futuristic wall design is really nice. And you can really feel Grievous' tremendously fast motions with his four lightsabres in these images. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! A very impressive collection of fire engines! The detailed and functional accessories for each engine are great. Furthermore I find the bumper bar of the first vehicle with the 2x1 curved bricks on the underside very inventive. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! Welcome back out of the Dark Ages, and also welcome to these fine forums. Your truck is pretty nice. Now all you need is something to load onto it. Like a big and heavy construction site vehicle. Then your truck would be the ideal choice. For a truck of that size, the wheels seem a bit small, but that's only a minor detail. But that way it's nicely flat. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! It's a great ship! It's a good idea that the Old Republic revived the hammerhead design. I can imagine it's a capable blockade breaker. The forward-mounted heavy turbolaser turrets leave no doubt that it will shoot its way through. There only exists a similar design which was popular several thousand years ago during the Sith Wars. They appear in several of the Knight of the Old Republilc (KOTOR) comics and the related computer game. Here's a link from Wookiepedia: Hammerhead Cruiser from KOTOR But as you can see, it's quite different from what DarthPineapple built, even the actual hammerhead is different. It's a complete new class of starship he invented. And it's great! Cheers, ~ Christopher

Infinite Space. Infinite Terror. Event Horizon.
Legostein replied to Legostein's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Heya! Thanks for your comment. I am aware that some of the movies I deal with here are less popular. But you're right, many movies "borrow" design similarities from popular movies. Now that you mention it, the ship really looks Klingon-like! This movie here, Event Horizon, is a good movie, but also very scary. I didn't sleep all too well after having seen it for the first time. Below you'll see the cinema poster art of the movie. Thanks for your interest! ~ Christopher -
Hello! If I remember correctly, my first castle set was 6035 "Castle Guard". Image taken from Lugnet.com. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! That's a lovely town creation! The display cases are excellent, and lead me to a strange idea. What if you had modular display boxes which you could stack on each other to create a tall display pile? He started as a small car dealer and ended up with the highest car display in the world. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Thank you. Yeah you're right about concealed details. Such things with moving functions are extremel hard to realise, especially at that scale. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! I am not familiar with these games, but the speeders look great nonetheless! I especially like that twin-pod catamaran like vehicle. The rounded windows are very original as engine grills! Cheers, ~ Christopher

The Republic Fleet: Acclamator, Venator, ...
Legostein replied to Legostein's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thank you all! Thank you everyone for the nice words! I also like this batch a lot as I personally have a faible for capital ships. Thank you! Yeah, the collection grew and grew. Together with the models from the various other themes I build from, there are more than 250 models now. But Darth Lion is right, there are 168 SW models currently. But these are only the published ones. Tehre are always some in the queue. Thank you! As said several times before, I usually don't build all models to scale with each other, but instead choose the scale where I can fit in the most details. But this sounds like a challenge. Just those two in scale with each other... Either increase the Venator or shrink the Acclamator... Now you got me! I'll take the challenge! -
Hello! The fold-up cockpit is a really good invention! If you don't mind I'd like to suggest to improve the trees a bit. This would really be an enrichment for the nice diorama. They currently look kind of hacked off at the top. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! Although I have not played that game, I red the book, and this comes very close to the descriptions there and provides the right mood. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello! A very streamlined design! Good use of the Jedi starfighter's cockpit. My favourite technique here are the large wheels as engines. They look fantastic. Cheers, ~ Christopher

Hello everybody! Tonight I'd like to show you the miniaturized version of the Starship Icarus which you might know from the movie Planets of the Apes of the year 1968. You might remember seeing the ship slowly sinking in the lake in the beginning of the movie. The bricked model features the typical shape with the small wing-tips right after the golden cone, as well as the green hull areas around the cockpit windows. Inside the smooth looking hull the construction is nicely snotty as a look at the instructions will reveal. >>> Click here for more images and building instructions <<< Have a great sunday! ~ Christopher

Hello! This is brilliant, really! I am always facinated about that technique which lets you build a round wall. The brown spiral leading to the tower's top is a great touch. But there so much more to see in the scene, and I like everything there. Very remarkable is also that corner alcove. That's excellent technique! Cheers, ~ Christopher
