OK, this isn't Melbourne, but in Adelaide at my local target they have just re-stocked all the Spongebob sets which I assume is in anticipation of their big toy sale. So I reckon if they're not already on shelves in Melbourne, they will be soon.

At Myer Adelaide CBD I saw one desert skiff, no Jabba's Palaces, one copy of one LotR set that has been there for a week and two copies of the other set that has been there for a week. Definitely not worth the effort of staying back at work and going shopping afterwards. I think we should all just be patient and wait for the real toy sale in a couple weeks and get what will probably be 28% discount for a couple days for Myer One card holders.

Hi Ben From another Aussie, it's great to have you here. I'm sure you've noticed there's plenty of us around the place. If you haven't seen it before, check out the Aussie sales thread or if you want to import some Lego at good prices, there's a specific topic for that too, Buying from other countries. I know there have previously been some great deals on large technic sets at the various amazon sites.

Thanks. They're some pretty good deals but they must be working on very slim margins. I assume they're sourcing these sets from overseas but then they'd have to add GST as well which doesn't leave much room for profit. Thanks for that news chrism, great to know. I swore I wouldn't buy any Star Wars or LotR Lego, but I may have to break that promise to myself. Myer Adelaide had a bunch of SW sets (not many of each though) today but only a couple LotR sets. It will be interesting to see if the shelves are fuller by the 5th. Delta 38, these sales are often just on the night before a stocktake sale. Sometimes they don't start until 5 pm or so. But if you miss out then, there's always the main toy sale later in the month.

From memory Myer will have the VW camper van and Tower Bridge again, Target the R2-D2 exclusive. Also it seems like many of the sales are starting earlier this year. Well for Myer and Target at least.

I doubt there'll be an extra 10% off at Myer tomorrow for Myer One card holders but I assume it will happen at the big toy sale for a couple days.

On brickset it has been reported, with photographic proof, that Target has the R2-D2 set and it's 20% off until tomorrow. I guess this will be their exclusive for their toy sale.

I'm going to assume this means the project has now got the green light from Lego which is great news. Otherwise if it was pulled after teasing us with this, that would be one big kick in the teeth to all those that supported this project, and I don't think TLG want to do that. Also, given they're showing the whole layout, I wonder if they're considering amking all components of the set, conditional on the sales figures of the first one I assume though. I think I'd prefer them to release these gradually, although that would jack up shipping costs considerably for those in countries with very high shipping costs from Shop at Home compared to selling the whole street in one big hit.

While I agree with most of what you say, companies, not just TLG, need to realise we are now in a global market place and when it's cheaper for me as an individual to import something (such as Lego) far cheaper than I could buy in Australia, the price differential has skewed too far.

Besides the unexplained jump in the Town hall price*, I think there are some positive signs with some Lego pricing in Aus. I think Jabba's Palace and Helms Deep are both a RRP of $200 which means they won't be too hard to find for about $150 at various sales. When you add our GST in, that's only a few percent above the US RRP. Originally these were supposed to be $230 each according to Mr Toys website. *I'm guessing this may be more to do with a deal with a retailer that wants the RRP to be $300 so they can make some more profit when they put it on sale for 20% off.

A big thanks for the review. I really appreciate your comments on the building experience. Like many AFOLs that's of major importance to me. Your comments have made me want to buy this sooner than I was going to.

I'd urge anyone in Adelaide to go to the Toy Corner 25% off sale. I went this morning and there are some very good bargains to be had. Some I noticed were the Winter Village bakery for $75 after discount. The kingdoms castle $150 (which given how it has skyrocketed in price recently is as good a price as you'll find it I think). Also I think there are some potential good deals for resellers. I saw some slightly harder to find Ninjago sets at decent prices. They also have masses of the old impulse sets including both pirates ones, space police and City ones. They're $4.50 after discount. If that isn't enough for you, they do have a great selection of parts as well and super friendly helpful service. I don't normally like to plug places this much but they have been a great shop for Lego fans in Adelaide for years and I think the retail slump is hitting them a little.

Yes, I saw them in Adelaide. And someone saw even more sets in a store in another state. It was strange as there were only a couple copies of each set and they weren't even in their own display, just mixed upwith some other sets.

I spotted two LotR sets at Myer Adelaide. 9471 and 9472 for $60 and $90 respectively. This is a 100% mark up on US price for the first set and 50% for the second. I'm wondering if the first includes some Myer mark-up. However these prices do match those at shopforme. On sale, the 9472 wouldn't be too bad a price. There was no sign of the other LotR sets or the VW van there.

Hi beef Thanks for the post and welcome to eurobricks. That's a bit disappointing about the joust as it'll be hard to find as a discount if it's an exclusive to them. I was guessing Target would get it. I wonder what exclusive that will leave for them. K-mart tend to get a Star Wars one, the VW was no surprise for Myer though.

Lots of sets for sale at shop at home. Harry Potter, Spongebob, Alien Conquest and PotC. Also for those in Adelaide, Target City had a PotC tavern set on clearance for $70 so I assume it's $56 after the 20% off. They also had the big harbour set for $110 before 20% discount (is that reduced, I thought RRP was about $140?) if anyone is looking for a set for a child as I doubt it appeals to many AFOLs.

That's a very good question, and I have the answer. It looks like Myer have learnt a lesson from their pricing of the DC sets. All the Marvel sets I looked at were at RRP or $1 under in the case of the Quinjet set.

I think you've missed the boat on that one by a couple months (assuming you don't want to pay an inflated price on ebay or bricklink). In other news, the Death star is 347 Euros on Amazon.it. For Austrlians, that works out at about $463 shipped (shipping cost was huge, I assume because of the size of the set).

I apologise if this is slightly off-topic but I've found some confirmed prices for the two new big city sets, the garage and hospital. I just thought more people would be interested here than in a City 2012 thread. Also I hope it's not old news. Garage $150 Hospital $90 Hospital Garage Edit: The Monster Fighters zombies set will be $70. I didn't bother with link as there are no pretty pictures up yet.
