Cale, this is awesome. I'm still reeling from Railbricks shutting down, and I hope you guys can pick up from where Railbricks left off. I've taken the liberty to share the site on BrickPicker - I know there are train fans out there as well ...

TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff
Phil B replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You forget to mention one benefit of 60098 over 60052: It has a helicopter.... I think you'll get the best performance with 2 PowerFunctions motors. Try putting them in the same car of the train, joined using a pole switcher (due to the way the powercables are designed, you need to mount one backwards - the pole switch basically undoes that reversal), tied to the same IR receiver channel and button (red or blue). That way both motors run at the same speed all the time, and act like a single motor, just with double the power.- 578 replies

Mine has been gifted, so I don't know about the molding issue.

My Walmart had one of these, sitting lonely on a shelf, no other TLBM sets in sights or even marked on the shelf, with a yellow clearance-like sticker on it advertising it as $16.82 (16% off). Didn't scan on the price-scanner (neither the official barcode nor the yellow tag) so the lady at the register had to manually enter the price. Not bad, getting 16% discount before release day :). This was last week btw.
-
You are right. I was looking at several sets, most of them $49.99 base price. AT-ST was $39.99 RRP.
-
AT-ST was $49.99 in store, 20% off SW made it $39.99 - which was the price it rang up for at the register, so the 20% off coupon goes off of $39.99 ($8 off) to make it $31.99. Then $5 reward makes it $26.99. I ended up picking up a Changing Seasons for that price (Creator sets were also 20% off, plus coupon, and Changing Seasons is also $49.99 MSRP).

Our competition date is Dec 9/10. Last year we did quite well in the robot part, this year our team is struggling. Still, couple of practices to go so I hope we get somewhere quickly :) PS: It's "Animal Allies", not "Animal Friends" :)

Someone's been shopping at Meijer :) Almost picked up an AT-ST for $27 (Had a $5 reward to stack).

Things are a bit different this year than last year, from the looks of it. Anyways (US based): - You get a limited edition snowglobe with purchases over $99 (They did a VIP-only preview of this sale last weekend, and the snowglobe is already being sold for a pretty penny on EBay etc.) - You get double VIP - There is a limited amount of sets (typically slow sellers or almost retired sets) that go for 50% off, in-store only. Those are typically gone by noon, if not faster. Last year amongst others it was SW Ghost for 50% off, Pirate Chess for 50% off, might have even been AT-AT for 50% off. - You get a store calendar. Last year this was great, as it contained coupons that you could redeem during certain times of the year, like 100 bonus VIP points, an exclusive minifig etc. The rumor is that the calendar this year is a coloring-in calendar and does NOT contain coupons. - There were a few "one off" offers, like a free set with purchase of the Temple of Airjitzu. No idea what the offers are this year.

If you bought this straight from LEGO, build it all, make a list of the missing pieces, and give LEGO Customer Service a call. They'll make it right for you, or at least, so is my experience. If you bought from a different retailer, you could do the same but I would be curious to hear which retailer it was ..... many random pieces missing is not something that would happen to LEGO typically, more likely of a clone brand. If this came from another retailer I'm wondering if someone didn't by chance do a swapperoo with the contents.

[MOCs] New Haven Boxcab Electric Locomotives
Phil B replied to CrispyBassist's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Wow - awesome how you managed to make these go so smoothly through standard corners (and zig-zags), given their size. Nice work!- 18 replies

[MOC] Architecture - World Trade Center
Phil B replied to Crazy Packers Fan's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Hey, nice Architecture scale work there. I think you've got the overal concept right - you just need to align your grill pieces better (especially at the bottom they look wonky). Also, read up on the dimensions of a LEGO brick - bricks are 3 plates high, and the height to width ratio is 6:5. So to make a tile fit over 2 side-studs vertically you need to insert 2 plates between the bricks with studs on the side, however, that creates a 1 stud gap between the two studs, so it would need a 1x3 tile at a minimum to work. For a 1x2 grill tile like you try to use I would recommend looking into the various brackets LEGO makes, especially a combination of the 1x2 - 2x2 Brackets (either normal or the up variant) and the 1x2 - 1x4 brackets in up and normal versions. You can line those up in such a way that they will hold a 1x2 tile vertically. -
Jaw dropped ...... nice job!

Love the bottle caps as bearings! Looking forward to seeing this beauty in the next OKILUG display :) -
Nope, see a few posts above yours - it's an existing piece from 2012, used in 9 sets (8 unprinted, one printed for a Cars racecar).

To confirm: there are eight distinct colors across the two molds: White Red Green Black Dark Pink Yellow Medium Azure Bright Light Orange (I used BL color names). Would be nice to see a picture with all of them next to eachother - care to post one once your black bike comes in?
-
Yes. Mentally prepare yourself for the anguish you'll experience when your son, after building the train, proceeds to use it to repeatedly smash into brick-built walls on the track, and run over unsuspecting minifigs. Seems to be the first thing kids do when they get a LEGO train (and I speak from experience).
-
You didn't see it because the part at Brickset is the new bicycle part, not the older one which comes in Black. Brickset's parts are what LEGO officially publishes as parts (but they only started publishing parts ~10 years or so ago), whereas BrickLink has almost ALL parts ever made by LEGO, catalogued by fans. So look for parts over at Bricklink instead of at Brickset if you want a comprehensive overview.
-
You mean this one: http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4719c01&name=Bicycle, Complete Assembly (2-Piece Wheels)&category=[Riding Cycle]#T=C&C=11 Features in 8 sets, but last one is from 2005. Also has a slightly different part number (c01 instead of the current c02).

What sets do you think are a good investment right now?
Phil B replied to Lasivian's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Excellent suggestion - just want to correct the notion that people at Brickpicker are only investing in sets: you will find a large group of people there who only buy to build, or who buy to build and to invest. Lots of conversation around MOCs and MOC examples, and a very active "What LEGO set did you build today?" thread. Plus, a great source for finding deals - BP typically has LEGO deals faster than sites like SlickDeals or HDUK. -
[MOD/MOC] Expanding the 10254 Winter Holiday Train
Phil B replied to mouseketeer's topic in LEGO Town
Very very cool. Like how you used the design of the 10197 wagons and "refreshed" them. Also, Santa's chair in front of the tree is very well thought through! -
Hint: Bricklink.com, search the catalog for "Hero Factory Mask", click on the matching mask and then on the "Found in 1 set(s)" link to get to the set. Teach a man how to fish etc.
