If I had to guess, it would somehow involve separating the "ramps" of the Eagle's Castle and attaching them to this. So not connecting with it so much as being compatible with certain parts of it.

Very good! It wasn't long ago that I myself felt inspired to MOC the NES, but I started with the controller and couldn't get it right at the right scale. Are you possibly going to follow this up with a controller, or a brick-built cartridge?

For some accessories (such as handkerchiefs) is done exactly that way. But depending on what type of accessory it is, that may not be ideal. The fig could go from looking like their neck is too long to looking like they don't have a neck at all. Additionally, raising those accessories could make them cease to fit with existing helmets/hairpieces (for instance, many helmets are sized to fit snugly against the minifig jetpack the way it fits now). That's not to say this wouldn't work for some accessories, but there are pros and cons of each, and I don't think having them attach the way you suggest would be appropriate in all cases.

I doubt he was responsible for his own job title. In such a large company, specifying a person's role within the company can take a lot of words. The person before him probably had the same title.

A decent MOC. It reminds me of some of what I used to do with Bionicle. However, there are a number of flaws common to Bionicle MOCs. Firstly, as has been repeatedly emphasized on BZPower, Nuva shoulder armor is hard to use as chest armor on a Toa-sized MOC. While I'm not one of the ones who insists that it can never work for that purpose, on this MOC it's simply too wide. Also, while it can be hard to make a custom Hero Factory skeleton, I can't say I miss the blocky Technic constructions that defined "custom" in the age of Bionicle. The legs on this model in particular look nowhere near as refined as those of any official Bionicle set OR official Hero Factory set. The back and arms seem to suffer from this as well. More complexity is not always a good thing.

Unfortunately, the entry period is already over. Sorry if you planned to enter! I like the Hero Factory armor style because it's simpler in appearance than Bionicle armor typically was, so you can easily use any two armor pieces together. Not so with Bionicle, where parts had unique textures. For instance, Kalmah's armor didn't match anything except Kalmah's face, and the Piraka torso had textures unlike any parts from pre-2006. Hero Factory's smoother textures go better with each other and with traditional System elements, and allow you to focus more on the overall shape of the model and less on the motifs of individual parts. But if you like Rahi-like models, there are plenty in this contest. Don't forget to check out the other entries and vote for the ones you like best!

underground month
Lyichir replied to homemade sciencefiction's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I don't know if Eurobricks has ever had a themed week before... but I think Peppermint M had a good idea when she suggested a building drive. I'm sure that would bring out some nice looking MOCs, and the turnout could be a good gauge of how much interest in "underground building" there is here on Eurobricks, in case they want to consider an underground month in the future. -
I wonder whether it will be a full show... the crazy character designs look like they might be better suited to comedy shorts, perhaps the kind that can be aired within the space of a commercial break. Alternatively, perhaps it will be some sort of online video game? Hopefully a press release will come out to explain these. As a side note, they're reminding me somewhat pleasantly of the old X-Pods.

underground month
Lyichir replied to homemade sciencefiction's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I thought you asked others not to be rude in your first post? Dismissing themes outright like you do definitely sounds rude. Hero Factory month makes sense because there IS a lot of interest in it and similar themes, to the point of it having a separate forum specifically for action figure sets. I don't know anything about Halo Waypoint, but I know what obnoxious fanboys sound like. And, no offense, but you're bordering on sounding like that yourself. I was only expressing concern that an underground month would not be timely with no underground-related themes on the horizon, and I don't see evidence of continuing interest in those themes here on Eurobricks (at least, not enough to justify a month-long celebration when ongoing themes would be more relevant). There is no "underground forum" and outside of your post demanding an underground month, there are no topics related to underground themes on even the first page of the relevant forum (action themes). If there's so much interest, where are the reviews? Where are the MOCs? Brickset reviews are not concrete evidence of anything, particularly not the level of interest in a completely different community. -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
From what we've seen from the trailer, it seems she appears to be an enemy before the main character gets to know her. It's possible that she only shares her first name later. Not to mention that Wyldstyle is a far more distinctive name than Lucy. Isn't the set called Wyldstyle Chase? "Lucy Chase" would be a bizarre name by comparison.- 2,626 replies

No idea what this is, but I definitely see some neat parts (specifically the "ball joints" in white with cartoon eye printing). We'll see how it pans out.
-
Cool! I had been thinking about doing the same thing myself, but I wanted to redesign the posters to have a limited color palette and larger "blocks" of color, so that they would go better with the ones from the set.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Lyichir replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think the problem is that the saturation on the infosheet (or at least the scan) is slightly off. It makes the cool yellow less easy to distinguish from the standard yellow. In physical bricks it should be much easier to tell. -

Wyldstyle could easily be a codename or surname for "Lucy".- 2,626 replies

underground month
Lyichir replied to homemade sciencefiction's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I disagree that underground themes have had the best stories, and Power Miners was the only one to have really decent sets. Only Rock Raiders had a video game, and while neat in concept, in execution it was a buggy, nigh-unplayable mess. While I was a fan of both Rock Raiders and Power Miners (for different reasons), the fact that Lego has had only two underground themes and has none ongoing means that a month devoted to them would probably be overkill. I don't think there'd be enough interest to get much turnout for contests, and prizes would probably be harder for the staff to acquire than they would be for an ongoing theme. But if you want to spur more discussion of underground themes, you're always free to post your own MOCs or reviews. -
Lego Digital Designer has a limited variety of Bionicle parts, but a wide variety of Hero Factory parts. That may be what they're referring to, since many FOLs use Bionicle as shorthand for any action figure theme using the ball-and-cup building system.

Did Atlantis' mini movie not help sales? The first year of Atlantis (when the mini-movie debuted) was a massive success. Even if the special didn't result in a full series like Ninjago's did, I don't think it's right to assume it had no effect. I've seen little evidence that Chima, on the whole, is struggling. The only real, non-anecdotal evidence has been the free-with-purchase Speedorz, which could just as easily be a marketing push (whether that results in greater sales on the other Speedorz is yet to be determined). Besides, even if the Speedorz are selling less than expected, it's entirely possible that the theme could continue without them (just like 2013 Ninjago featured a wave without spinners). Make no mistake, I've seen little evidence that Chima has enjoyed the same success as Ninjago. But Ninjago was Lego's most successful product launch ever. Meanwhile, Chima's TV series still hasn't started airing regularly. I think even if Chima underperforms compared to Lego's expectations, that's little reason to consider the theme down and out.

I like the "after" model (although it has a bit too much exposed Technic for my taste). I like that you maintained his asymmetricality, particularly his silver "pauldron". I wonder, however, if you could have worked more Dark Stone Gray into the lower half of the model, but that's a flaw the actual set had as well (and it looks like your shells in that color were largely limited to those in a single Bruizer set). The "before" is humorous, but it borders on feeling like a cop-out.

This review answered the main question I had which determines whether Jet Rocka is a good set or not: is it swooshable? Having built it on LDD I found that neither the figure nor the jetpack were outstanding, nor wer they bad. But your testament to the set's handling is enough to convince me that Jet Rocka would be awesome to play with, and for a great deal of Hero Factory's audience, that's what will matter.

Decent review. What I'd really love, though, is to see a side-by-side comparison of this with 7288 and 7743.
-
Maybe, but that's unlikely for the simple reason that we would of heard of this sort of thing happening to other sets of that era after this many years. The fact that no one seems to know what caused this is evidence enough that it's never happened before, and is therefore unlikely to be a factory error.

Most wanted bricks for next LDD update
Lyichir replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, I would put in a vote for the inclusion of Duplo elements at some point. Even if it were just basic bricks at first, it could be massively useful, especially to adult builders like myself who may have a use for Duplo in a model but may not have ready access to it. Aanchir's points about connectivity are valid, though; perhaps it would have to wait for the next major update of LDD rather than being added in a simple parts update. -
I've built almost the whole thing on LDD, and can share a few observations. The large amount of black does not detract from the quality of the set. In fact, I might argue it improves it--without color, more emphasis is placed on the sculptural quality of the detailing, which is achieved in many fantastic ways. The build is far from monotonous; each floor is constructed differently, and a decent amount of SNOT prevents it from just being an exercise in stacking bricks upward all the way. The more colorful interior also helps in this respect. The new half-arch piece is used liberally throughout. I counted 24 of them altogether, which probably the most that will ever be seen in a single set. There are likely good reasons for the non-enclosed nature of the set. The best solution I've heard for enclosing the tower while maintaining play value would be having it hinged to open for play. But because of the way the tower narrows as it approaches the top, a hinged rear wall alone would have to be anchored VERY close to the bottom, and I would question how stable such a wall would be, especially since it would slope inward. The alternatives would be hinging it in the middle (near impossible due to the SNOT-work on the base, and would reduce the amount of space in the upper rooms dramatically anyway), or hinging each floor's wall separately (which still wouldn't work perfectly, since most floors are in fact deeper on the uncovered side than they could afford to be if enclosed). The good news is that it seems that one could easily modify the set to an enclosed state; either by buying two sets (expensive, but it'd guarantee you most of the parts you'd need) or just Bricklinking parts (which would be more difficult, although it'd probably give you significant savings in the long run).

This game sounds so much like what I've been wanting from a My Little Pony game, actually. :P With friendship being the name of the game, a la Animal Crossing, and various minigames you use to bond with characters. Of course, that doesn't make it a guaranteed purchase by me by any means; there's a lot of opportunity for that sort of game to fail in its execution. I'll want to wait on reviews, which hopefully can judge the game on its own merits instead of dwelling on the fact that "these don't look like Minifigures!"
