Which Lego set had the most pieces?
The Middleman replied to Mister Phes's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Now this sounds interesting... Got any sources about it to share with us? Sure do! BZPower covered it just a little while ago. http://bzpower.com/story.php?ID=2253 Now that is a very generously sized castle! But is it just me, or do some of these newer sets look too "busy" with all the flags, ornamentation and weapons? I think that's partially caused by the box behind it. I'm sure that on a cleaner-colored surface, it'd look less busy. -

Actually, Vladek's upcoming fortress will be the largest castle set ever, in terms of pieces. Over 800. Guess they're trying to make up for Castle of Morcia, eh? -
I'm so envious! Still, only like 8 more days for us! (and isn't there a midnight madness thing going on, so we'll be able to buy them at Toys R Us on the 1st/2nd (at midnight)? Saw something about it on Rebelscum.com)

I could chip in a good $20-$30 for the Viking prize.

I'm not good with the acronyms! What does AFOL stand for? AFOL - Adult Fan of LEGO KFOL - Kid Fan of LEGO TFOL - Teen Fan of LEGO -
Check my post above, V()()D()(). It's not precisely like that, but it's a dragon.

Typically, Vikings used red/white sails, as it was thought to inspire fear in their enemies (blood-striped sails). I used red/white striped cloth from my local fabric store for mine. Here's a design if you feel like making a paper one, though:

Opinions on the 2004 4+ Pirate Lego Theme
The Middleman replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Well, considering that we're all basically agreeing with you, and considering that, in any case, one child does not represent the majority, I think it's safe to say you can stop repeating it. ;) -
I think what you guys are missing is that I'm saying that a viking (in the sense of the word as used at their time) is the same thing as a pirate. snefroe, you're perfectly right about the trading and settling, but that's not what vikings did. They were only called vikings when they raided and pillaged. When they were trading, or just generally at any other time, they were called Northumbrians, Danes, noormen (thanks!), etc. Viking is also irrespective of culture and it is merely a mistake of our society that we consider it a term that indicates a specific culture. Back then, 'viking' was basically the word for 'pirate'. So as well as you could say 'a viking is a type of pirate', I could say 'a pirate is a type of viking'. ;) Of course, there are more commonly recalled subsets of both - when someone says 'Viking', the 'horn-helmed' longboat-rowing raiders of Scandinavia come to mind. When someone says 'pirate', the eye-patched commandeerers of the Caribbean come to mind. Still, both are irrespective of culture and essentially mean the same thing.

V()()D()(), it's a great idea, but I'd like to give some input on this one - let's wait until the Viking sets are released. Puts them on an equal playing field. Right now, there's a serious lack of painted circular shields, longboat-style hulls (see my previous Viking MOC to see how hard it is to make one), horned helmets (just for fun!), and just generic Viking necessities. I also think we should arrange prizes. Maybe a few members/admins could chip in to put a longboat and an equally-priced (original) pirates set up for grabs?

It's supposed to be $150 with around 1500 pieces. -
When Blood Jay conceedes defeat of course! Or when you close our threads... Whichever comes first. Of course you could always merge this thread with the other. I only created this one so I could create a poll as well. That's BLOODY Jay to you, Mister. :P You know that LEGO game that those people created, where you battle with ships and land on islands and such...? Kind of like Warhammer with LEGO and nautical vessels? Well, when Vikings become a part of that, I think Phes and I'll have to duke it out. :P

Wouldn't that be early 2004? 8-| Oh, and there's a difference between making lots of involved posts and makings lots of posts such as 'round two, begin!' and 'this topic can now be closed!'. :P No harsh feelings, though! -

The forum's been around for just about a year, I think. -
I think a new Ninja series would be tied with a new Pirate series for second place in my books. More old themes!

Obviously, BIONICLE works - and that's great. As long as it doesn't intrude into other sets, I'm fine with it, LEGO gets huge gain from it. I think it's a one-hit-wonder, though - they should not try to capitalize on the BIONICLE idea by releasing crap themes like the giant knights.
