Picked up these: To try this: Because of these:

Thank you In a word, yes. I bought it NIB cheaply on eBay (box was battered, but I'm after the LEGO!) which just made it better value, so that's the way to do it. The plane itself doesn't 'do' anything (no variable geometry or light-up reheating engines) but it doesn't need to; it's just a really satisfying build with excellent lines when built. The alt build helicopter has some lovely SNOT on it. Go for it; you won't regret it. Ah, but for a lack of space I would! Might leave the bigger ones built up somewhere...

They're not really too tall for minifig scale; I think what makes them look too tall is the rather spindly 'spine' which makes them a little out-of-proportion. This is where this MOC comes into its own: (By https://www.flickr.com/photos/madlegoman/) Bulked out, in proportion, articulating arms connected in the correct place, the two barrel/binocular blaster, rolls up: perfect. I was trying to use not-a-lot-more than the parts in 75092, but now if I just source some of those 44675s... Thank you! Yes, I'm not really sure why the official ones have the arms SO wrong. That Mk.II looks very shooty! However, it doesn't quite have the intimidating presence of its predecessor, to my eye, for some reason. I do like the sheer number of clippy bits in it though! Maybe I'll have a go at something like a Mk.1.1 which keeps the terrifying clawed legs and wide-slung guns of this one here, but moves toward the Mk.II with more guns... Thanks for the inspiration! You make a sensible case. Realistically, I shalln't be buying it, even though £60 on eBay isn't THAT expensive. I just have too many other LEGO projects to work on! (Can one have too much LEGO...? Should I even ASK that HERE?)

Thanks for the encouraging words, everyone! Despite not having enough titanium bad robot arms, I figured I'd build another one anyway because one simply HAS to have two: And it means we can (mis)use another Neimoidian quote: "Now there are two of them"...! Ugh, and I wasn't going to buy any more LEGO for a few months...

By far my favourite Star Wars vehicle, and yours is an excellent rendition. The 1x10 slopes definitely improve the nose. The only criticism can be the tail, which is not your fault: the square ending is very LEGO but not terribly satisfactory. Is it better or worse than a series of narrowing cylinders though? That is the question... Excellent work!

Ooh, which figs did you get? I love any LEGO alien action!

Smaller and cheaper versions of large vehicles for smaller budgets
bananaworld replied to Pendleton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This is quite profound and something that many of us forget: the entire point of LEGO is indeed that it it intended to be MOCed! -
Destroyer Droids have been curiously inaccurate in the way they have been portrayed in LEGO sets. Specifically, the weapon arms are attached in the wrong place, which I feel removes some of the menace of these rapid-rolling, Republic-resistant droids. Originally. LEGO had their blasters mounted on the droids' bases: The 'actual' droids had their blasters mounted on arms emerging from their shoulders (link to Google image search), which I sought to recreate. Various arm iterations were required to not only mount the weapons in the correct place but to correct the other crucial problem with the original, namely that the blasters could only be pointed off into space, not aimed at anything at ground-level. After a lot of clipping, I finally found a solution that captured the look to my liking: The blaster-pairs aren't horizontal, as in the films, but this was a compromise I was willing to settle for. Arms done, the body needed just a little work and the intimidation grew: This is getting much closer to the droid I'm looking for: It even rolls better: After completing these improvements, I went looking for other people's work on these wonderful droids and particularly like the work done to extend the brown curve around the droid's back, further enhancing their accuracy. Having said that, many of the modified droids still suffer from not being able to aim the blasters in three planes. One thing that isn't widely used, and which I did particularly want to keep, was LEGO's use of the two barrel pistol/binocular combo. It was introduced way back in 2011 for Alien Conquest as the ADU weapon-of-choice (the theme closest to my heart, despite them being no match for Droidekas) so it is a shame that it didn't find its way into the 'hands' of Star Wars' Destroyers until 2015's 75092. Thank you for taking at look at my minor MOCing, and please forgive a newbie's photographic setup...!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours

Right with you there, BrickFit26! AQ was wonderful and CMF has been a great source of related figures, so let's hope they keep releasing green-skins. -
MOC: Friends - Battle of Heartlake
bananaworld replied to Modulex Guy's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well that's a whole new take on the 'Friends' idea! You've instilled in me a new-found respect for the theme. Well done for showing us what's possible with mini-dolls; it seems that when they're not tucking into cupcakes and auditioning for talent shows, they're undergoing military training. Incidentally, that battle-bus is truly epic. Perfect all the way from the hubcaps to the RPG-toting roof-rider. Excellent work! -
Creator is among my favourite themes, with its no-nonsense, anonymised, 3-in-1, 'pure LEGO' approach, and in this theme, the aircraft are always my first purchases. I recently bodged together a nice light-up display area for models and the first theme to go in was a selection of Creator's aircraft: CIMG0062b by bananaworld, on Flickr The Dilemma: They've been on display for a while now and I'm itching to build up another theme from the stash, BUT I don't want to take them apart! Which ones should I save to display elsewhere? Just the stunning larger ones, or are any of the smaller sets just too brilliant to part-out?

IT HAPPENED! I had my first go at Pick-A-Brick. I thought it about time I visited my local LEGO shop in Meadowhall, Sheffield this evening, to buy someone a gift - honestly! - but was soon taken in by that multi-coloured wall. So, along with the gift (Venice), a tiny X-Wing (30278) and the free classic knight set I find myself with: 99 2x2 beige tile 10 2x1 beige jumper 28 2x1 black tile with handle 14 2x1 ball-hinge plates 10 2x1 clicky hinge plates 11 2x4 lime green plate 42 2x1x1 trans clear brick 108 1x1x1 lime green round brick 175 2x2 light bley tile 1 8x4 black plate 1x1 purple & green round plates and light bley round tiles (innumerable...) Quite a satisfying haul for a mere £11.99; I shall have to do that again!

'The Sea May Surprise You Yet' (possibly not for the pirate pu
bananaworld replied to bananaworld's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thanks very much for the kind words, everyone! I had quite a fun time posing the minifigs on the ship and taking the photos, and writing the story was surprisingly good fun! I hope the writing made up for this tale not being a stop-motion animation film. Indeed you did! Well-spotted. -
'Twas a quiet day aboard the 'found' corsairs' schooner; a fine ship that had carried royalty in its time. Captain Rotleg 'manned' the wheel. Rotleg had two burning desires in life: the first was to sail, which he'd continued even after death, admirably, even if it meant forever being an admirable captain and never attaining the rank of a capital admiral; the other was to find his leg. His rotten leg. The rest of his flesh, discoloured and in need of moisturiser it may be, lived on, unrotting, but he longed to find the bones of his ol' leg. One day... On deck, Grodnol Stuntygouger had his hammertime. Truly the Captain had changed his life; never in all his days had he imagined that he'd go from hunting spiders in the woods to beating the skin of a beautiful drum. Running away to sea had its perks! Bjorn Von Pierresky looked on, a misplaced prisoner on this misfits' boat. He'd never planned to be kidnapped, ha! he'd never even planned to go to sea! Ever. He was a bureau-jockey, a quill-pusher, a land-lubber through-'n'-through. Now here he was, captured by pirates, kept as their entertainment for years, and not a single one of them human and/or alive. Just his luck. Dignity was something that had gone the way of his beloved chair, his papers, his dispatches sealed-in-triplicate... Yes, a rat sat on his face as he slept. Just his darn luck. Still, he didn't begrudge that rat; it probably hadn't meant to go to sea either. And risking ratlung was a small price to pay for a warm chin. Not that the little furball helped much when the pirates amused themselves with a regular keelhauling of Pierresky. Whilst beached. Beaching happened a lot; it's hard to navigate a ship when the single eye on board worth its seasalt died over twenty years ago... And then one day, a stranded day, keelhauling away... "Surprise, coxswains!" Lost in space & time, SD Trooper Alekzis Krytech came aboard, very much uninvited. He didn't know where or when he was, but the only recognisably human individual in sight was definitely in trouble. The others were just targets. An unusually roused Grodnol sprang to defend his Captain. And his drum. ...but Grodnol's effort was thwarted. He'd never faced double-barrelled blasters. He could never have face them. He should never have faced them. They stung more than even Her sting. He may not have been the most useful of crewmembers, having never swabbed the deck once, but Rotleg was not going to waste his sacrifice by dawdling. This was his boat now and no outlandishly armoured bilge-drinker would stop the legwork it had done for him. Cutlass in hand, grog bottle in hook, he did not hang back. He was not, however, the only one to see an opportunity... Built to defend against the glare of coronal flares and the glitter of C-beams, Trooper Krytech's SolarVisorTM succumbed to that most corrosive mix of lime and distilled molasses. Bittersweet. As his blaster blasts blasted wide and his occular implants shorted he fell knowing his mission had not been in vain. The human had hope now. Hope, and a pointy stick. Rotleg might have been short an eye, a hand, and a most definitely a leg, but a diet of shark brains does wonders for one's hearing. He span to face the prisoner's attack. Pierresky pushed his assault. He didn't know or understand what was going on, couldn't fathom where the soldier could have come from, had never held a weapon in his life and his stinking, undead captor had a very big sword, but he could see this would be his only chance to return to a life of stamping nautical orders. Determination, desperation and desire are fine arrows in a fighter's quiver, but combat experience counts for a lot. Even dismembered & dead, the Captain's lifetime (and beyond) of bucaneering meant there could be only one outcome... Noöne would take his ship from him. "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds. And, as sure as my name is Captain Rotleg, I will find me rottin' leg!" Our Captain's quest goes on. It is his quest alone, but it is not to be a solo quest... Bored goblins and 'volunteer' crew are plentiful! Yarrrrrr! Thanks for reading this far! Please forgive: photography, fingers in shot, lack of relevance, derivation and, most seriously probably, this whole thing being in possibly the wrong place on the forum...

That's really nicely done! I like the stabilising feet.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! Ha ha, I hadn't thought of it as being unusual; I guess I have a lot to learn here! Hmmm, yes, some sort of functional Technic construction with a fantasy 'skin' on top would be interesting... Thanks for the inspiration

Phew, I'm not the only one to have this issue! Eyesite has been nearly compromised a few times while modding & swooshing Anakin's 75038 Interceptor... Similar to Gallardo's suggestion, I use one of these: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=2555 It can be rotated around to offer the best aesthetic depending where the launcher is mounted. Having said that, I do like Xaran's suggestion; would probably look better even if it slips a bit. The object here is to stop the missile launching! Mmmm, maybe TWO half-bushes would work...

Kinda related: So are PAB cups good value for money? Are bigger cups better value? I've often spent time gazing at those magnificent walls of bits and wondered whether to fill a cup.

Lego themes that we would like to happen
bananaworld replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Cowboys 'n' injuns! Playmobil had them when I were a lad, and I always wished for the same in Lego. There's probably quite a lot of potential politics involved, but Pirates are a perennial favourite and they were a nasty bunch. I have a single, treasured, native American MF, so I guess he/she (quite an androgynous MF) will have to do for now. Hmmm, actually, why not modernise the Pirate theme by introducing Indian Ocean pirates of the 21st century...? ;-)- 451 replies

Newbie here, daunted by the task of reading through 1250 posts... (And search didn't dig out the results.) Should I sort by colour OR brick type? I know the ideal answer is 'both!' but that isn't feasible (currently...) Is it more useful to have bags/boxes of the same colour or the same brick? Colour seems sensible, but what if I want to roughly model a MOC using, say, 4x1 bricks, and colour isn't an issue for that? Dig out all those same bricks from all the colour bags? Hmmm, there's not really a catch-all solution, until the clear-fronted drawer units materialise. One day....!

What Lego-related thing did you do today?
bananaworld replied to Savage Oppress's topic in Community
The organisation of eBay bulk buys has begun! It starts with colours, then size (big or small for now). One day (ONE DAY...) all the pieces will be sorted by type. I need to research brick organisation and storage systems.
