Yes, all those solid stud parts (without hollows) are definitely not LEGO DUPLO. -

Yes, David! Thanks! I've exchanged tire references (meanwhile corrected in my post above). Writing things at late hours, never gives brilliant results with me... Nevertheless I think Eric got what I meant. -

Hi Eric, just a small detail... You're almost right, but not 100%. When I read your comment above, I made some investigation on the topic and even ordered a few of these rare tires. Then I came to the conclusion that Jovel did not use the rare "81.6 x 36 R" tires from 8146, but instead the also rare but still not so rare "81.6 x 34 ZR" from 8880/8857/5533. Both tires are almost identical and both fit the wheels 44772 and 2998, however despite interchangeable they do not fit them perfectly. The natural match is: - 44772 with "81.6 x 36 R" tires, from 8146 - 2998 with "81.6 x 34 ZR" tires, from 8880/8857/5533 When you use the tire "81.6 x 34 ZR" with wheel 44772, they fit but they're also 2mm thinner which causes a small pot belly. The tire tread is also slightly different between the two tire versions, what allowed me to notice the difference. If you know what you're looking for, the small pot belly is also noticeable at one of the Jovel's photos. This what lead me to the conclusion that he used the tires from 8880 instead of those from 8146 (the perfect match). :) -
8458 vs 8461
Conchas replied to RockeTeK's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If you found a shop still selling one, you shouldn't be here posting, but buying it! It would be a shame to loose such rare opportunity, if you come to see the high prices a MISB one sells at BrickLink... -

Conchas replied to DLuders's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi Paul, Great to see you exposing yourself here! The situations you described from Brickworld 2010 are incredible!!! Haven't you told mr that before also, and I've never imagined it could happen at a LEGO even... Fortunately I've never witnessed such behaviors at any event I've ever visited before. And rest assured your models are away better from many many other things I've seen at these events. Can only imagine these were situations provoked by some jealous people knowing your work and trying to disturb you intentionally, or there are definitely some bunch of jerks attending LEGO events in US... Please don't get demotivated and keep your fantastic work!! PS: Humm... someone forgot to remove me from the LEGO Ambassadors group, here at EB... -

LOL Funny! Have a great 2011, everyone! -
I'm pretty sure it disables one of the planetary gear stages, thus decreasing the overall gearbox reduction, raising the motor output speed and decreasing maximum torque available. Perhaps the original 36:1 reduction from the two planetary stages, turns into 5:1 or 6:1 from one single stage. These gearboxes are however quite complex, as they have several possible modes of operation, and mental extrapolations are not that straightforward... http://technicbricks...pf-m-motor.html Must check exactly how it behaves, as I've some of these gearboxes open at home, for a project that I never had the time to document and post...

Chopper
Conchas replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
About full suspension I don't know, but with steering and real self-balancing there are a few others. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=VxiOy4QzD7I For the Philo's one, I can't see now whter it has suspension or not. There are also others from one builder, with similar steering and self-balancing, but not so sophisticated or efficient in terms of balancing. So to say they require some "support". -

It is not self-balanced as said above, but is really a great MOC!! The video is also great! Liked specially the entrance when the rider moves and seats in place. -
Mini backhoe
Conchas replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Really awesome indeed! A few parts color exchange and probably some small modifications and it could be made a very cool small set for the LEGO Technic lineup. I don't remember to see a backhoe this size in the portfolio. -

I just think you should avoid to expose the contact details above in their several forms. These you could have omitted from the original message, without changing its content. I think none of us want our TLG friends, spammed all day. But this is my way of thinking and what I always try to do. Others may think otherwise. Please remove my post if you find it inappropriate.

http://news.lugnet.c...nnounce/?n=3795 Each name you see on that announcement is primarily representing one different community. However if these people are active members on several communities is natural they could extended their representativity to a second or third community as well. Like I was selected for PLUG, but always auto-extended my scope to the LEGO Technic community, because of my specific interest on this theme. What you don't see at that list, is a community being represented primarily by more than one LA. Even this, did not happened anymore on Cycle 7. What we got was the same LA representing more than one community in some cases. http://www.plug.pt/c...no-ciclo-7.html As I said, some Program details have been changing every cycle. Read on Section 3, from the Oultine document. "Note: Only one representative per LUG." But I'm not the one who should be arguing about this. I've been just giving my perspective, which I think it is already going too long. :) --- So David, take a step forward, and offer to become one of the next EB LAs. That was my goal by advertising the Program and the actual enrollment window, at TechnicBRICKs. To promote for new LEGO Ambassadors.
-
Yes, LCEC is open to increase the number of Ambassadors, otherwise the Program wouldn't be changing this way. But I can assure you it makes a difference. Nevertheless the Program has been evolving in many ways during the last cycles, and it will not stop here for sure. The ultimate goal is to make it work and represent the community the best it way it is possible. So if you think EB can enroll for multiple LAs, please. I'd however recommend you to address EB admins, to check their position on that matter. After all they are who should regulate EB strategy and interfaces towards TLG, and ultimately from a top-down perspective, approve their representatives together with the EB community. Hi Anio, SeTechnic could however apply with another member, for the next enrollment windows.
-
Ok! I bet LCEC will consider EB as one Community and not set of forums, each being a community by its own. Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but don't think so... Otherwise the Program that will already explode in terms of Ambassadors number, would explode even more. This would weaken the Program as it would become very difficult to make it work effectively (IMHO). It is a task for EB Community to find the Ambassador that better serves it as an whole and the better could represent the interest of all its forums/themes, as it happens at any LUG with forums covering several themes. I'm not aware how actually EB is organizing to select the next Ambassador or if CopMike will continue, but maybe you could investigate it and even apply to be the next EB representative into the LEGO Ambassador Program. Nevertheless there will be already the opportunity for Multiple LEGO Ambassadors representing several communities, to represent the Technic community either. In fact every LUG Ambassador should also represent its Technic fans membership (EB inclusive). But if we think for some Ambassadors more dedicated to the Technic interests, I can imagine that folks from SeTechnic have also an eye on the Program, to give just one example. nicjasno.com, is just another possibility.
-
Given the actual rules, TechnicBRICKs will apply for a LEGO Ambassador off course! as stated in the post you mentioned. It just won't be myself this time, despite I'll continue to develop a close work with the LEGO Community (via TBs) and LEGO Technic team towards the community. I won't apply for LA this time, because I think it is time to give opportunity to others also, to get closer to TLG. But likely I'll do it again some cycles ahead. According to the rules, EuroBricks won't be able to apply for more than one LA, but surely it will continue to have one as it has been the role of CopMike so far.

Yes, both ROBOTC and NXC support 3rd party sensors and are much faster than NXT-G. ROBOTC is the fastest one. You may find an article with a nice comparison of NXT programming languages, despite its age. Notice on the Relative Execution Speed figures. http://www.botmag.com/articles/10-31-07_NXT.shtml

Lego Cuusoo
Conchas replied to Crtlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The page is in Japanese, because CUUSOO is an idea from a Japanese entrepreneur, and it does not apply to LEGO ideas only. His name is Kohei Nishiyama and he came to explain the concept, at the LEGO Idea Conference in Billund last April, which I had the privilege to attend. Personally I don't believe it could be a mean to make old glories to be reedited, or even to turn AFOLs models into commercial models. Kohei Nishiyama Long before the concept of co-creation came to the fore with web 2.0 tools, Kohei Nishiyama invented a Design To Order (DTO) system to reduce the risk of new product development. Along with a colleague from design school, he founded elephant design co. to commercialize the DTO system in 1997. Prior to founding elephant design, he was a consultant at McKinsey & Company where primarily handled new product development projects. One notable project was the wireless telecom carrier. His mission was to identify business opportunities for a client’s data-transmission technology, which at that time was completely new to the market. It is now one of the client’s core businesses. Because of his expertise in product development, Nishiyama is now a design consultant for companies such as Sony. For the past three years, he has been a judge for the Good Design Award Committee, which is organized by the Japanese government. Nishiyama lived in South America until age 19. He is a graduate of the University of Tokyo and the Kuwasawa Design School, where he studied product design. He is the recipient of several design awards, including the Kuwasawa Design Award (2001). Cafe Corner and Green Grocer, are not AFOL-designed sets. -
In this case it works pretty well because the generous ground clearance, the articulated steering and kind of pendular suspension, help to keep all the wheels on ground almost always (as wee can see from the video). Also the battery box on top of the front axis help to keep contact on both front wheels. As Silcantar mentioned, when all this failed and one wheel gets off ground we immediately see where the problem is.
