  1. LOL, I wish I could but I do not fullfil the requisites neither I have the availability to move into DK. Technic wise speaking, I think this could be a job for Peer Kreuger (Mahjqa).
  2. I count as much as 12 pairs. Impressive result even without seeing a video of it working.
  3. The fact is that Technic is not as popular in US as in other countries, by far. And can't be a larger evidence, than the sales figures.
  4. Latest photos from the post below http://technicbricks.blogspot.com/2008/11/...chnic-cars.html,
  5. Really interesting model! It is a pitty you wasn't able to produce a video. Also would like to see the cylinders construction more in detail.
  6. Alex Zorko (nicjasno) did! http://technicbricks.blogspot.com/2009/11/...heavy-duty.html See the last example.
  7. Find examples from the links below: http://technicbricks.blogspot.com/2008/03/...on-of-znap.html http://technicbricks.blogspot.com/2008/08/...-pf-linear.html
  8. The highlighted AFOL entries can be seen at: http://technic.lego.com/en-us/Designers/Blog/Default.aspx
  9. I don't think it would make sense to motorize every Technic set. That's why there is a motor kit for instance. To help motorize official sets, even when official instructions to do it are not included. Also believe such inclusion, could decrease the sales figures, because of the overall price increase of the set. It will start competing with larger sets, leaving less options at the lower prices range.
  10. I've addressed the question. The outcome is that TLG is of course always looking into new opportunities, but for the moment such a product can't be guaranteed. In case a LEGO Technic Direct model is ever to be launched, for sure we will get some news about.
  11. Hi guys, I got e-mail today from dluders regarding this thread. I must say I saw it when it was started as every other new topic of this EB section. Unfortunately didn't have much "free" time lately, as you may have already noticed by the post decrease on TBs, because I'm now quite involved in preparations for my LUG large events in 2010. But sure, I could drop here a few comments. An official Technic set targeting AFOLs, is one of my wishes for long and some of the polls I've raised at TBs, like the one that dluders mentioned already point in that direction. One thing I can say is that specific poll didn't went without notice from relevant people at TLG, and that was my goal. Since the process to develop new products may start about 2 years in advance (even for regular sets) we never know, what may happen in the future... However a huge Technic set is quite unlikely in my opinion for several reasons and many were here already mentioned. Blakbird gave a very good insight about the design steps and constrains in his initial post to this thread, to show how the best MOCs you see out there maybe be quite far from a product to be officially released. Even many MOCs use parts that are actually not in production, so any eventual venture in this direction should start as a custom and cooperation project with some lucky designated Technic AFOL producing great MOCs. IMHO there aren't many builders out there, building in the pure TLG Technic style. And this is a fundamental thing, otherwise it won't be Technic. Of course we must realize that the official style is continuously changing and improving. I will list here some examples of those building close to the official way: - The closest IMO is the "Concept Car" from Nathanael Kuippers. But this shouldn't surprise anybody one Nathanael was who designed the "8674 - F1 Ferrari 1:8" as a freelance project. - The Gallardo from Crowkillers, should be pretty close from the style and aesthetics POV. It is however the only example among Paul's models. - A few models from Designer Han are also a possibility for what we intend here, but in a slightly different style of building. Maybe he was somehow anticipating some style changes. - Then a see also a lot of potential on the small models from Mahjqa but thats targeting smaller models. Sariel is building great and complex MOCs, even smarter mechanisms, but is style is quite away from pure official Technic style of building. Others you have mentioned have also great MOCs, but not in the proper sense of what is being discussed here, IMO. Now about the process to release a special set in cooperation with an AFOL also targeting the AFOL market segment. As far as I know, these have been always 'Direct To Consumer' initiatives (being the Market Street, the best known example). So such project won't ever be originated from the Technic product line, but should come as a project request from DTC, who has a limited budget for this and similar projects like other LEGO Exclusives. This changes a bit the scenario where we are moving, or where you have been thinking we are... Finally I'm not the actual Technic Ambassador, once ambassadors are nominated by their LUGs or some online communities and finally selected by TLG. I was nominated by my LUG (PLUG or Portuguese LUG), but once I'm basically a LEGO Technic fan running a dedicated blog, I'll always try to defend the Technic causes... This is nothing I haven't somehow done already in the past, but sure I can raise this topic at some channels inside TLG. Just give me a few days. What I can't promise, is that I'll be able to get back with any feedback to you.
  12. I didn't know either and we never talked about this. So, I decided to advertise by my own initiative, as we all should want to know about. But as it seems, now there will be a prize also for the best from the adult submitted models. Read more, here: http://technic.lego.com/en-us/Designers/Blog/Default.aspx
  13. Nice to see you keep building, André. Good work!
  14. See if this helps. http://technicbricks.blogspot.com/2008/07/...-pf-linear.html http://technicbricks.blogspot.com/2008/08/...-pf-linear.html
  15. I believe the new trains will not have exactly the rechargeable battery box you are guessing, but something similar. Such element itself, would raise the price of these sets too much. Has you may realize, no other LEGO set brings a rechargeable battery of-the-shelf (look at NXT and Emerald Night). Instead, you can buy it as an accessory. Thumbs up for a new large Excavator, despite I'd like to see something much more sophisticated than LAs, being used here. But we must accept that it would push the price tag forward and requires the development of new PF elements.
  16. I didn't find the pool to vote, but would like to say I see no problem at all, with Paul and Eric selling the instructions. Even if it was not the case, there are detailed photos online. So everyone could try to reproduce the design and Paul's work! Already a very good offer and willingness for sharing. If someone wants detailed and professional looking instructions, why not to pay a small ammount for those who have put an huge effort producing them? In the essence here, there is shared work for those who do not want to pay and there is a small payment for those who want a value added service which certainly took a tremendous of work. So don't see where is the room for complaining here. In the end we are talking about small money!... but even if we wasn't. I'd be happy if Eric and Paul could become rich with this work. ;)
  17. Please realize, none of these new items at the LEGO Education catalog, got branded with the tag "Power Functions", unlike the former ones also in the same page. IMO this happens, these shouldn't have much application (if any) in the Technic line of products.
  18. Well Mark,... you want to know what we think. Don't know about the others, but what I think is that you are one of the few, who knows how to take LEGO pneumatics to the limits. I mean it in the sense of building extremely complex functions which are not easy to understand just in a glance, or even two, three,... Also they should be not easy to explain. And this is another I should find the time to try, before I can really understand how it works. I agree that one video would be a great addition to this contribution, and if it would be made available, I know also where to highlight it...
  19. The authors of these models are Cristian Sala (Tristian) and Fabio Sali (Fabione). According to Tristian: - The Buzzer is an electric circuit built by Fabione himself. - The electric parts visible in the cabin is an old Racers remote receiver, modified by them and without the original case.
  20. The part use in Code-Pilot that produces the sound is quite large. Almost like an NXT or RCX. Despite both models ar quite large, it dosn't look they have such thing inside. The test I made with the old sound parts with a cycling on-off setup, proven to produce a very similar sound (at least for my ears which certainly are not the best ones). I've meanwhile found who are the authors from these two models and made contact. Hope to get some clarification about this.
  21. In fact it seem there are some custom wires connecting to the old electric lights (that flash when reversely powered). Probably to save the space the 2x2 electric connectors, despite there is lot of free space. Although don't know what is that, seen in the center at the back of the cabin. There is always a possibility for the sound being produced with a custom device. Nevertheless I found it is possible to produce the same sound only with LEGO elements.
  22. I guess it is not made with an official LEGO sound brick !? Don't know any with that sound. EDIT: Well went to test all my Sound Bricks and came to the conclusion that a setup similar to the Sariel Automated Trafficators, with an old electric siren (4774c01 or 4774c02) would produce exactly that sound.
  23. I feel that the 4 out of 5 new models, we have seen so far, are pretty good. As allanp said, we should compare small sets from the 1H with much larger sets from the 2H in the year before. While everyone could easily point out, lack of functions and possible improvements to any small model, we must realize that it immediately puts the model into a different part count, size, price range, building complexity and targeted ages. So it doesn't make the point. That's why we have small and large models every year and it is not uncommon that small models of year, are the large ones of another and vice-versa. Also we tend to forget (myself included) that LEGO is still a toy targeted for children (even LEGO Technic, despite for upper ages). And most of us may feel like children, but aren't children anymore. ;) Many of the fancy things and parts I'd love LEGO to do, have the belief they won't ever do. So we can only build them ourselves and maybe try to create some custom and sophisticated custom parts (like PF solenoid valves). Looking forward for the 8045, and later the 2H models.
  24. I believe you won't be able to run it from a compressor made out of LEGO. Those we use to see, run form real compressors achieving higher pressures. For a short run and, you may try to use a manual LEGO pneumatic pump.
