Thanks Christophe! I was to come here and present my monorails, but great that you took the lead. Lets challenge TLG with a modern monorail and make them rethink about it, at least once more...

Lego technic challenge 2012

I would say you guys... hold your horses, because your efforts may lead you nowhere. I haven't started to build either. -
Certainly! I even have a list of names... (just remembered to add another one) Just don't know how to cope with everything flooding my head... It really takes a bit of time to handle everything until I can have everything ready to put interviews like this online. Worst part is when everything gets agreed, questions prepared and sent and answers never come... I'm talking about AFOLs, not LEGO Designers, despite one interview still pending (just to make it clear). Also for you to have an idea, I think I had agreed this interview with Paul almost two years ago, and just know it came to see the daylight... But things always happen when they must do and always at the best moment. And a few others were talked even before than that... Paul is however not the first AFOL interviewed at TBs. Nathanaël Kuipers was also interviewed in the past (ok he was also a former LEGO Designer). And we have helped with some other AFOL interviews, for HispaBrick Magazine (more to come). So don't loose your hopes. Someday I may come out with some more interviews. Weird! I'm pretty sure the website has not been down. Anyone else experiencing problems?

Lego technic challenge 2012
Conchas replied to Ondra's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How can you talk about disadvantage and make such considerations if you don't know yet which the timeframe to submit your designs will be? Also you're assuming that MOCs made previously can be submitted, but forgetting that might be some rule preventing it, to know when the rules will become published. We'll have plenty of time to make some decent models. -
Lego technic challenge 2012
Conchas replied to Ondra's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It was considered. There won't be problems with plagiarism this time because once the Designers will choose the top 10 to go into the voting phase there will be plenty of time for us tor report any illegal entries. And in the end we are the ones who will chose the winner. There will be allowed other parts than those in the set, as log the rules are obeyed. All the details will be known still this month. -

Not finally! It is based on information posted here at EB 1 month ago. I just thought it was about time to speak about it again. -
Inside PFS-Large motor
Conchas replied to Philo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If we nowadays look at the interior of the machines that put the men on the moon, we'd get really scared about the components that were used. Once I saw the Apollo 10 Command Module at the Science Museum in London and got really terrified... -
Guess one shouldn't get too far, with these wheels.

More specifically it was clogging the portal axle hubs (which had to disassembled with Crowkillers method) and the holes where some axles run. In the end I decided to replace some parts, as I do not like to see scratches. The portal hubs are still the same though as I do not have yet enough spares to replace them all. Yet the video final 3-4 seconds, cost me one part lost in the grass for the eternity and two broken parts. One of them a shock absorber from the rear suspension... My daughter was dropping it from too high, I guess... So the Crawler was reborn for a new, but too short life... Now it went for restoration, once more. This Crawler has been abused quite a lot in my hands. I have too admit. Maybe you're right about Jeppe, and he won't talk to me anymore... No I didn't damage the motors so far. I guess there was no salted water entering the internals of them. Nevertheless only the time will say!... To be on the safe side, I've replaced also, two (1x PF L and 1x PF Srv) of three motors and will give another use to the other two... It shouldn't be!... does not having complains anymore and everyone I was asking, is accessing it again regularly. Try to force a reload with F5.

Right! I think we have to few examples to extrapolate what TLG will do with future CUUSOO projects. We must wait at least to see what happens with the projects currently in review phase, to see how the get changed. We have now substantially different models, either in size and subjects, although all with something that LEGO definitely have not done before. What this will mean for a Technic model? - We still have to see. Thus better to try it, to know and get an answer from TLG. And this is where I most fundamentally disagree with you. Vampire is worth to support, not only for the innovations he brings in itself but also for us to get the missing answers, guidelines and experience. IMHO the Vampire is actually one of the Technic proposals best qualified for a review and to give us some answers. We have actually a Technic model with more than twice the supporters, which besides a nice experiment is much less likely to get a go from LEGO. Unless it gets substantially modified and re-sized, but the the original presented idea is gone! But this is the most tricky aspect on CUUSOO - to match the fans judgment with TLG review goals, and why we will continue to have successful projects made unsuccessful and virtually successful projects never getting there. The rigid 10.000 magic number is here playing the Damn Bastard. If one wants to think about innovation and Technic like models, or at least something TLG never did, we should probably try a blend between Technic, and Model Team. Nice looking and realistic LEGO models with motorized working functions. We have great builders in that area unfortunately it seems most of them are not much interested in CUUSOO. Let me drop here a few (Ok, not a few...) examples of this expression and which I think that could succeed in this area, M-Longer has several ones (some below): - http://www.technicbr...herr-l-580.html - - - - - http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=301700 - (not motorized but functional)- (not motorized but functional)Makorol has some other great examples: - http://www.technicbr...al-wheeled.html - - - - These by SFRIP are also amazing and within the same spirit http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=71918 One could even think in models like these: - http://www.technicbr...er-compact.html, by Nico71 - http://www.technicbr...skid-steer.html, by Shmade And of course, some other great models from Mahj in a similar trend, since his GITS was fated to fail - http://www.technicbr...-want-some.html - - - But if we think purely in Tecnhic terms, the Vampire is the flagship!

I don't see big fundamental problems with CUUSOO. We will get something of it, but not everything and as fast as we would like. If I had to change something or if I could, I'd give a limit of time for a project to succeed. It could be one year, two years or whatever, but a limit! This way I think we will virtually assist that many projects will sooner or later make their journey till the 10.000 supporters, eventually not being the most appropriate for a review. As for the Vampire, I think one wouldn't even need to build it to find many innovations in it. I'd leave here just the easiest one... Wouldn't the gearbox deserve a "Best Innovation" stamp? I'm sure others will list the innovations they have found. Otherwise I'll do it myself, before the Vampire reaches the 10.000 supporters.

technicbricks down?
Conchas replied to daniele's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yesterday while writing a foreward I wanted to finally redirect TBs from blogspot.com to its own domain (technicbricks.com). In the process I got some issues and also had to leave home in the middle - That's why it remained inaccessible for sometime. As it involves DNS configuration it can take awhile to propagate properly, but everything should be fine now and you should be able to reach it from a few more URLs. www.technicbricks.blogspot.com www.technicbricks.com technicbricks.com Thanks for your patience!
