  1. Actually most of them are patents from the elements used in the old Znap theme. http://www.bricklink...S&catString=152 http://www.brickset....mes/?theme=Znap Ricco might have been involved in the concept of this theme at the time.

  3. Indeed it was an january jagoff's wiener! I was not really expecting to fool any of you with my little Photoshop skills and available media resources. No dedicated photographic material was prepared beforehand, having this day in mind. It doesn't matter to say the effort put on this was also relative small, and I wouldn't be able to do it any better after all. Anyway I decided to play the january jagoff's this year after postponing it for several times the years before, to remember it was again the time almost too late... @Majhqa I didn't ask Paul to do this, despite I've promptly informed him once it was done. I recognize your Photoshop skills are far beyond my own. So I'd be very curious to see what you would come with. Honestly! Maybe also a good idea for an EB activity, to see what the folks come up with. Initially I made it more Technic like, with a typical background used on Technic sets boxes. But when it came to work the transparency on the model shadows I gave up for a more simplistic and faster approach. Otherwise I was still struggling with the task by now... Hence the Murciélago over that nice asphalt background in the photo taken by Paul. Then it must be a Racers set, which also fits better, the model itself. In the end it was the box layout that does not fit the Racers theme. But who cares?... A 3D box template would have been also great, but the effort and time would have been much higher also... Could have tried to overlay some fake stickers illusion, but that's definitely well above my Photoshop skills to make something decent and convincing! After all not many would have believed in it, as I didn't also believe in any of the other jokes running yesterday in almost every blog on the LEGO scene... @Paul Is it better now? BTW, I'm not so sure if LEGO once consider to produce a model like this, if they would develop specific rims or covers for the wheels. Would better bet on the customized stickers. However this story doesn't need to stop here!... You just need to submit your model at LEGO CUUSOO, so that we all can vote on it and show that the LEGO Technic fans community can also drive something out of the LEGO production lines in Billund.
  4. Yes, PF Rechargeable Battery (As well as NXT) have an internal timer of about 2hrs after which it shutdown the battery. Is done that way by design, for security reasons! There is no way to overcome this. I'm however not sure how it behaves if the battery is externally powered. You must try it.
  5. I've been reading your points and most of them are very valid! We have LEGO Technic branded sets that have been changing in style overtime and some specific variations here and there, that could have been branded as something else although they were still included int the Technic theme officially. Then we have many sets that make large use of Technic parts or functions that we may consider also as deserving the Technic label (and from which you gave some good examples), which were branded as something else for a variable number of reasons. On top of this discussion, it may worth to think also about what the LEGO Designers consider Technic and what they consider not. I remember that many entries made to the former LEGO Technic Challenge contests in the past two years, didn't made to the votation panel, because they were considered by the Designers as making use of an excessive number of SYSTEM parts. And well this makes me remind that I was to write something about "The LEGO Technic Essence" for the Designers blog, for long... Maybe I'll take some inspiration here, when I finally decide (or find the time) to start this task...
  6. Awesome idea! I like it very much the way you're implementing so far!
  7. Amazing indeed! This F458 Italia Love the details.
  8. Don't think there is a separate holder. The DBG part should just part of the motor case, with pin-holes to give support for the motor. I really like this motor has a lot of pin-holes around, to help fixing the motor. If it is an high-speed motor, it really needs to have multiple and versatile fixing options.
  9. If you think I can be helpful, I also offer to make this happen and weed out some entries. Most certainly I won't participate in the contest, so more talented builders can participate instead of being tied to such tasks.
  10. IMHO we are very fortunate to have two very interesting sets the 2H this year! The helicopter because it is like the re-edition of mythic set (8856, Whirlwind Rescue), the new blades, a promising set of functions and a very nice looking design to which one will hardly become indifferent. And the 4x4 will certainly be my favorite. It is of course the largest set, it is the first tie we get an RC wheeled vehicle in the LEGO Technic theme and last but not the least it brings only two parts we have been demanding for years. If it won't make it a must have set, I don't know what it will. Certainly we will have the chance to buy the motors as spares from TLG or somewhere else, but that has been true also for everything else.
  11. Unlikely to happen at this scale, I'd say. Treads are Ok for large building machinery. But links won't have so much use in commercial sets at their usual scale (IMHO).
  12. Maybe you can achieve the intended functionality if you make use of the pin-holes in the large tread. You may alternate them with and without some kind of element attached, for your time belt.
  13. Likely it will! It would make all the sense, also for the competition that TLG seems pretending to release.
  14. Type 1 is the old style. See below:
  15. Hi Simon, At their website, it seems only wheels compatible with NXT are the 48mm ones. Or is it that you can interchange the hubs with their larger wheels too?
  16. Indeed, at Technic in the past they didn't want to link to external websites (out of lego.com), despite it was done at least at the Mindstorms product line. Something might have changed in between, which is cool.
  17. See the parts in this store and check if it serves you. http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Eezo There is a metallic CV-joint to be used with flatted shafts. http://www.bricklink.com/storeDetail.asp?catID=P133&b=-6277393&h=142678 http://www.bricklink.com/storeDetail.asp?b=-6277393&h=142678&itemType=P
  18. Sorry Man! I had this model and a few others for more than two weeks now, and only yesterday I was able to finish the review of one of them... Very good suggestion yours! Usually TLG fails to use tandem wheels on their models, most likely to save on the tire/wheels and make the models to fit in some budget. I should have mentioned it, in my review! Maybe I'll add it tomorrow, and include a link to this post from yours. But now it's time to sleep... 5:27AM here...
  19. You can find both in set 8864. http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=87080 http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=87086 The only set where these parts were released in green, so far.
  20. You must definitely also try this one: 8479 IMHO, one of the best flagships, after 8455.
  21. So it means you had hidden the first one, from your wife... Being AFOL is an hard living!...
  22. The Tractor is referenced to be in the 30€ range. If it is the case, the Off-Roader might be the 2012 flagship, as I believe.
  23. Well these fellows are at least one year ahead of their time (see in the end), so we never know what the future will bring us... :) But I also prefer to build away from my laptop, and still did not find enough usecases that serve my personal needs, to make me buy a tablet. However a top smartphone is a different story...
