  1. I have changed; or morphed if you want to call it that; in my model building. Now what sets I buy, I basically look at the set for modifying. For example I purchased the new Cargo Plane last week. I built the set as is just to see how TLC created it. My plan for this set though is to do a total renovation to it. I plan to use my scaling technique mentioned below for my final MOC. My building technique now is totally based on a particular scaling system I came up with. Every model that I can use my scale on I do. I have recently taken my Passenger Plane from storage, and rebuilt it to my scaling systems specifications. Now my Passenger Plane is at a scale of 140' long, with a wingspan of 115'. The 8-stud body width comes to being 11.36' wide. A width that falls in the narrow-body style of airliners. I research pictures & original specs of actual planes, locomotives, etc... before I modify a particular set. I have taken my years of building & creating models, and added an engineering twist to the mix. This is why my modeling technique uses a scaling system. Unfortunetly I have ran into the problem that the minifig is a scale of its own. I do not concern myself with the difference. All I care about is the minifig looks more realistic among my MOC's. Model On!!
  2. I actually cannot recall the name or number of the first set I received, I know it was not Duplo. What I do remember of the set is it was from the "classic" space theme and was a spaceship. If I were to take a guess I would say about 1983 or 1984. I do not have any sets as old as yours Asuka. You must have been collecting for quite some time? I like the conveyor belt of the set you posted. I would like to see TLC re-release such items again. I definitly would *wub* to have one for my collection. Model On!!
  3. I am glad to hear about the news from Lego on their revenue. I would like to add that there will need to be some major changes here in the US for the market here to rebound. Unfortunetly the cost of basic necessities in this country has taken precedence over hobbies & entertainment for some people. The costs to just survive have become so great, that many of us Americans are unable to spend our hard earned pay on ourselves. I hope to see this trend change not only for TLC's sake, but for America's sake this year. I especially would like to be able to spend even a little bit more on my Lego hobby. The almighty US dollar is no longer almighty anymore. I hope for all of us this recession we are facing will turn a tide this year. This means more Lego sets for everyone :-P . Model On!!
  4. Thank you for the pic highland *y* . I definitly agree this advent calendar looks really cooool. I thought the 2008 calendar was going to be a "Castle" theme. Does it look like TLC is releasing both? I also happened to see a better close-up of the tail end of the new Coast Guard helicopter in that pic. I did not realize TLC is using the tail section of the passenger plane & cargo plane in this set. I really hope this looks better built than it looked in that pic. Otherwise I may be very disappointed TLC used that piece. Model On!!
  5. Welcome to EB CP5670. I know you will feel right at home here. The people here are great *y* . Enjoy your stay. Very cooool MOC's as well *y* . Model On!!
  6. I would have to say these are very difficult to chose between. As I look at both and compare them, I see a key ingredient for each one. When it comes to the Town Plan, I like the fact that TLC took the "Classic" town concept and released this set for the anniversary. When it comes to the Cafe Corner, I like how TLC created this model with that more "realistic" look. Overall I think both are great additions to any town layout. I would have to definitly think about these sets before I voted. A very tough decision to make. Model On!!
  7. Happy Birthday you two. I hope you have a wonderful day and receive the Lego sets you have been wishing for. Have a great one!! Model On!!
  8. I want to say thank you to all of you for the B-day greetings. I also would like to send out a belated Happy Birthday to the other two. I hope you both had a wonderful day too. I received the Town Plan for my b-day. I just *wub* the look of this set. I can't wait to build and add this to my town layout. Model On!!
  9. I would have to say that I could not vote on my sorting technique. My sorting is as complicated as Hinckley's. I use the same type of cabinets and I sort my parts using all the listed ways on the voting page. Needless to say, I am very particular when it comes to sorting out parts. Model On!!
  10. I would also like to say Happy Birthday to you both. I hope you both received all the Lego you asked for. Model On!!
  11. Welcome to EB, I know you will enjoy this place. The people are great too. :-) Model On!!
  12. I would have to say that overall TLC has made some great items through out the years. I know many of you out there have negative comments towards TLC for the color variations. But remember this the next time you see a questionable color, "Here today, gone tomorrow". TLC has released parts in various colors, and the next year that color is gone. Wouldn't you think this would make that color/part special? That part/color has now become rare & hard to find. That particular color/part is now a collectible item. I would agree with all of you that TLC has released some very questionable sets/themes over the years as well. As for the strange sets/themes, look at them for their parts. TLC may have hidden some special color/new part among those sets. Another thing TLC has done with their sets/themes is the limited quantities. I have always liked how TLC puts a limit on the manufacturing of each set/theme. This is another way that TLC has made their products more of a collectible than a toy. We all have negatives towards TLC for the decisions they have made. But we need to take the changes that TLC has done and roll with them. I could go on with negative feedback towards TLC for many of their decisions through out the years, but they do me no good. Over my years of collecting, I have taken the changes and used them to my advantage. Now I look at strange colors, parts, sets & themes as expansion items. I look at these things and say to myself, "What MOC can I build using this as a foundation". My advice is look at TLC changes as positives. You can always build something from the different colors, parts, sets & themes. Model On!!
  13. I definitly can't wait for these sets to be released this summer. I especially *wub* the look of the helicopter. This set kind of looks like the Sikorsky H-53 Sea Stallion (USAF). I plan to modify the helicopter to fit the H-53 concept. As for the other sets, I still am undecided. All depends on $ and whether they have modifying possibilities. I will have to see if the others have useful parts. Model On!!
  14. I also would like to say welcome to EB. I know you are going to enjoy this place. The people here are a fun and roudy bunch ;-) . Enjoy!! Model On!!
  15. Very, Very Cool saturncoupe1999. The conversion on the locomotive and railcars look like a success. You did a GREAT JOB on the change over. Also noticed you received some great old parts as well. Very Nice!! Model On!!
  16. VERY, VERY, VERY COOL!! I *wub* how you used the creator set and incorporated the technic concept into it. Your MOC looks GREAT. The details you added are especially a bonus. GREAT JOB!! Model On!!
  17. Thank you phoinix for all the photos. I *wub* the color scheme TLC chose for this set. I am especially :'-) that navy blue was chosen. What a great parts set just for that color. I really hope that this set gives us a glimps into new colors TLC will be releasing through the coming year and in the future.
  18. Thank you for the great review Sandra *y* . I *wub* the detail that TLC added to this set. I would like to add that I think all the buildings look *sweet* . I really like how you compared the look to "Back to the Future". When I saw the first pics, I thought the same thing. The look of the set is definitly the 1950's. I am :-( to see the price though. I am sure this set will be $149.99 US too. GREAT REVIEW, Model On!!
  19. Sounds very interesting. This theme would be very, very coool to see. I was also unable to view the pics, but I hope this is a true "Lego" theme. I guess we will all find out this summer. Model On!!
  20. I think Sinner is correct. The "flame" piece is from one of the "Spaceport" sets, I think. I am sure I have seen this piece from there. I just looked through a catalog from 2000. I found this piece in set # 6455. This is the Space Simulation Station. Model On!!
  21. I just want to comment on your quote. I would agree that these models are amazing, but do not give up on your models. We all have some sort of area that we like building models from, Town, Space, etc... All we can do is keep designing and building MOC's we like. We must never give up no matter how great looking another persons MOC may look. Use such models as inspiration. Model On!!
  22. Thank you for the great review Dr. S *y* . I am definitly buying this set, I *wub* the look of the whole set. Where did you find this? I am surprised at the treasure chest though. In the movie they were transporting the Ark. I am confused why Lego did not make a model of the Ark. VERY COOOOL anyway!!
  23. Very well done Azmean *y* ! I especially *wub* the helipad concept. The way you created the pad to sit above the street so that vehicles could pass beneath the walkway/pad. VERY COOOOL!! I definitly would like to add such a concept to my hospital (as soon as I build it). GREAT JOB!! as well on the building itself. Model On!!
  24. I really *wub* the look of the MOC. I think it is VERY COOOOOL!! A very good likeness of a snowmobile. Model On!!
  25. Very Cooool MOC. I really *sweet* the idea of adding such a vehicle to a town layout. There are no such motorcycles in the US, but I can see these would be great ideas for the larger cities here. GREAT IDEA!! Model On!!
