42177 Mercedes G500 4X4
Ngoc Nguyen replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just looked at the gearbox and I noticed something strange. If I understood it correctly, the engine will go to the hi-lo switch first, then both of its output will go the DNR switch. Is the gearbox in the real car this way? I thought the engine would go to the DNR first, then only the output of drive would go to the hi-lo switch. At least that's how it is in the Land Rover. -

Is it just me or this model is slightly shorter than the real G 500? Unless there are several length options to choose from. -

Finally got some time to build this model in real life according to the instruction I made. I went back to fix some errors and made some changes to make the building experience easier. I also made two major redesigns. The first redesign is the removal of the shock absorbers for the door. The role of the shock absorbers is to create a bistable mechanism. However, the current linkages already guarantee that, as I discovered in the real build. The removal of the shock absorbers also makes it easier to close the doors. The second change is the angle at which the front links connect to the door. In the original version, when the upper parts of the doors are opened, the links bend too much outward from the tow balls, and sometimes they just detach from the tow balls. Therefore I changed the angle of the tow balls to make the connections more secure. New instruction and new part list have been updated on Rebrickable.

Ngoc's Technic Corner

That's what I did, essentially. My 42128 B model was free for a year (August 21 to Sep 22), and that was when someone used the cabin design + instruction steps in their own instruction without crediting me. I asked for the credits and that person even denied it. According to Rebrickable TOS you can only force someone to credit your model if your model is premium. That was when I set it it premium, and the pretty much main reason I did that for subsequent models.

These are essentially buildable figures and not Technic at the core. Im not really interested in the Ecto 1. You already did at an excellent job with the DB5 and I dont think I can do any better or different. Now this is an interesting suggestion. Thanks a lot!
