  1. I spent a whole evening sculpting the boom and the arm. Since this creation is designed after a real machine, I want the boom to look accurate too, instead of using the solutions in the stock 42121. I'm very happy of how it turns out in the end.
  2. Am I the only one who thought you're gonna build a literal dinosaur running on tracks after seeing the thread's name for the first time I was thinking of something like this.
  3. Just realized that the hand rails are supposed to be taller than the cab, so this is more accurate.
  4. I also did some quick work on the appearance of the other side of the superstructure. Since there's no diagram for this side I took some creative liberty.
  5. Since the official 42215 has a breaker, I created one for this model too. It has the same interface as the bucket, which is two pin holes 3L apart, so the tools can be swapped.
  6. Thanks a lot for catching that problem. I totally didnt think of that. I went back and change the sprocket into black 24z gears.
  7. Hi everyone, this is how Chris Stamp tried to put more functions and features into a tiny package from RacingBrick I wish Technic is designed with the same approach, but alas...
  8. If not for shrinking I would have nothing to do Thank you! I just did some quick parts for the cabin. At first I tried to go for an openable door like the EC230 but that means I'll have to do the curved hose twice, and that looks ugly, so I decided no door.
  9. I took the bucket curling linkage from my JCB 3CX and did some modification. Since the official 42215 has the tool swap function, I made the bucket removable as well. It's not gonna be motorized or use some fancy gears like in the official set since there is no space. You just fix or remove the bucket with the two 4L axles with stop.
  10. The scale would be based the track width of 3. Based on that the uppercarriage's width should be 12, but there's no such thing as an even width Technic model, so I'll go with 11. Boom will be 3 studs wide, same as that in 42121, and two sides will be 4 studs wide.
  11. I tried to participate in TC25, 26, 27, 28, but I only managed to finish my entry in TC25. And that was like 5 days before the deadline. For other contests I was either too ambitious with my idea, or I just got bored. This time I'll just go for something quick and dirty just for fun. I'll use the 42121 as a base and modify it into a mini 42215. Rear lights: As for the model, I just did some quick work on the undercarriage of 42120. I mostly extended it to make it fit the scale of the EC500. Interestingly, the width of the base of this model should be 14 studs, and the width of the base of 42120 is also 14 studs, so there's no need to work on that dimension. The sprocket technique is taken directly from the new City excavator 60420.
  12. Indeed, the drive train from the front axle goes through 2 pairs of 20/12 meshing to reach the rear axle.
  13. In general I don't show WIP designs but since I already posted this in the other thread, a mini 42209 Volvo L120 is in the work. I actually whipped this up before official photos are out, and I used the official blueprint insted.
  14. I think this deformation is purely because the cabin has to accomodate the smart hub behind it. Otherwise there's no difficulty in raising the nose and shortening the cab.
  15. The Bronco tire solves another problem that has been vexing me when I design my mini replicas. In the real construction machines, like Volvo's machines, the tyre is very thick, so there's a significant ratio in terms of tyre's thickness and rim's diameter. The ratio cannot be done with current rim and tyre options. Below is a WIP of the mini 42209 Volvo L120, with the regular 30mm rim and 49.5mm tyre. It looks quite stupid to me. Not only is the ratio of tyre/rim incorrect, the whole wheel is smaller than it should be, because the diameter of the whole tyre + rim combo is just 6.2 stud. 6.2 is a very awkward number to scale around, so most of the time I have to scale the model around a tyre diameter of 7, which means this tyre + rim combo is smaller than it should be. There are a couple of solutions for the tyre/rim ratio though, as I have managed to find out. The idea is to use a black Mustang rim (42716) to increase the thickness of the black part, and put something yellow inside to mimic the yellow rim part. However, it's rather unfortunate that a 3x3 Technic disk (2723) doesn't exist in yellow, so the only alternative is the yellow pulley wheel, which doesn't look good at all. The other solution is to use the 2994 rim, which manages to fit (thanks @Stereo for the check), but 2994 is an old part. Also, neither of those tricks can solve the problem of the awkward scaling factor. And that is where the Bronco tyre comes it. The part hasnt been released yet so I don't know its exact diameter, but based on @R0Sch's mockup the diameter should be as close to 7 stud, which not only makes the rim part thicker but also scaling easier.
  16. While the Technic complexity surely satisfies many gearheads, in terms of appearance the model isnt quite satisfactory. The proportions are quite off.
  17. Counting the days for it. Wouldnt want to reveal my thing prematurely and risk disqualifying myself
  18. I have 12 unused tractor tires so I think I'm gonna use tractor tires for the Mog.
  19. The Bronco fender flare arrives just when I want to build this. I've been struggling to come up with a solution for the front wheel thing but wasn't able to find anything satisfactory.
  20. Or just futureproof your 42167 by PF Converting it!
  21. The seat in the real machine is actually turquoise!
