I dont think a spider crane will appear again in the foreseeable future. 42097 got an early retirement when it hasnt been on shelf for a full year. I think it doesnt sell as well as projected. According to anecdotal evidence 42081 doesnt sell well neither. And there lies the creative dilemma of Lego Technic models: Novel, but not too novel that it alienates people.

I've noticed that in recent years TLG is pushing for the release of lesser known, less popular, or less frequently featured models in the 2H line up. 2016: 42053 Wheeled Excavator. Only 1 or 2 have appeared in the history of Technic 2017: 42068 Fire Truck. Only 2 have appeared in the history of Technic 2018: 42079 Forklift. Only 1 or 2 have appeared in the history of Technic 2019: 42097 Spider Crane & 42098 Car Transported. Never appeared before. 2020: 42112 Concrete Mixer Truck, Never appeared before. That's why I'm thinking there will be a Technic Steamroller in the 2H lineup soon, and it will have new dedicated parts for the medium-sized roller wheel.

According to this answer on Quora TLG already got into trouble with Boeing for developing a non-licensed tiltrotor. https://www.quora.com/Why-doesnt-Lego-allow-sponsorships-of-the-businesses-in-its-sets/answer/Sabs-Feigler I think he was referring to 60021, released in 2013. So a non-licensed tiltrotor got TLG into trouble, and a licensed tiltrotor also got TLG into trouble. I dont think we'll see another tiltrotor again in the near future.

Back in 2008 TLG already did a violence-based anthropomorphized tiltrotor.

While I do wish to see a large 1000+pcs biplane, I can't really figure out the potential functions to make it merit that slot. Motorized propeller, control surface, and maybe motorized retractable gear? Biplanes don't have winches or ramps or openable nose or tiltable rotors.

I've just finished ordering Bricklink parts to extend the rear of 42030 B into the 42114 rear and build a proper bed. My plan for the first stage is just to empty out all of the gearbox components and reinforce the structures with some frames. Then I'll look into incorporating some suspensions.

I do think it's gonna happen 2 or 4 years from now. TLG seems to not want to repeat themselves, and every two years there is gonna be a 120 EUR 1000+ pcs motorized aircraft slot. There are only a number of complex aircraft types unexplored left for the A model: - Tandem Helicopter. Basically a more refined 42052 B. Lately TLG seems to take the previously released B models and make them more refined and release them as A models. For example 42030 B -> 42114 - Variable Wing Sweep Air Craft. A bigger 9394 A - Intermeshing Rotor Helicopter. A more refined 9396 B - Front Propeller Plane. - Bi Plane. - Rotodyne. - Quadcopter. - Eurocopter X3. Do expect to see those types taking their turns to occupy that slot.
