  1. Hi, Just wondering if there are many larger scale non-technic cars and vehicles made in Lego? A lot of the cars in the technics forum are amazing, but have a lot of engineering in - gearboxes etc. I'm looking for models more focused on the external appearance, but larger than minifig scale - so eg 16 studs wide. Would those mostly still be in the technics forum, or town, or somewhere else?
  2. When I came back to Lego, I started by just buying sets that look good. There were so many I'd missed, and current sets are so good looking, so that's what I focused on. Now I look for interesting sets on offer that provide a model I like the look of, but also extra value - eg creator 3-in-1, or parts that might be useful when I start MOCing (still playing it safe with predefined sets for now) I have no interest in minifigs, but they do seem popular around here
  3. In cases like this, or with doctor who, where the building toy license is clearly already assigned, Lego should just immediately tell them that it's a non-starter
  4. Yes, I realised that when they had one about a month after I spent £800 in the Westfield Lego shop :/
  5. I'd like something zelda-ey, but I don't see Lego making all those multicoloured accessories, and the submission doesn't have much more than that plus three minifigs. It needed some proper set ideas and I don't think that diorama is it. Something like link's village where he starts games could be good, or him finding the master sword. Licensing might be an issue, but then Nintendo have a new console to push this fall, so could do with some free marketing awareness.
  6. That's go to know, have my eye on another pet shop and the town hall. 5% back plus 5% in VIP points is pretty good
  7. I have slightly more preference for the cheekbones version, as Matt Smith has an 'interestingly' shaped face which the lines help with. Don't change the eyes, they are perfect and absolutely make this model - you've captured his character really well
  8. QAR is probably a better set than the black pearl for what you want. More space and I think pretty straightforward to mod into a navy ship if you wanted to Depends what your needs are - OT or PT, minifigs or ships or planets :) I went for the Endor pack recently. Four minifigs and a speeder bike, plus a few extra plant/tree pieces. Perfect if you need to boost your OT minifigs or are doing any RotJ MOCs
  9. I think they are guidelines the 8 is probably for the main front wall of the building. Steps, shop goods on display etc can probably stick out some. I think if your main wall was 6 studs from the front it'd stick out noticably from the other buildings
  10. Fire brigade would go well, or the brownstone house half of the pet shop.
  11. Supported you a while ago, and just hopefully entered the comp. Reading the official Lego comments is very encouraging. I wonder if cuusoo has to wait for 10k votes or Lego just has that as a safety net. You can almost feel them wanting to jump on the Vampire early. it'd be a perfect flagship technic supercar for next year.
  12. It's a really nice boat. A challenge for the next one would be to get it to rock back and forth as it rolls along, as though it was cresting waves ;)
  13. For measurements etc, check out this link - Modular houses standard Summary - 32 studs deep, a multiple of 16 wide (this contest is limited to 32 wide I think?) - 1x2 technic brick with a hole 9 studs from the front and back, with 10 studs between them. Two on each side at the bottom. This allows technic pegs to join buildings together - sidewalk 8 studs deep. Dark bley tiles with a 1 stud light bley tile kerb are standard in Lego modulars, but I think they could be considered optional, the measurements are what is important - if you have a rear alley/garden, that should be approx 8 studs back too,no the building footprint is 16 studs deep overall. - height varies, so have a look at other modulars to check how it would blend in
  14. The OP has the scenes on cuusoo, so go and support if you haven't already
  15. Good point, I thought that as I was writing it, as the reviewer points out that it's compact but can hold a stretcher. It's just that I'm not a huge fan of panels. Also a good point on city vs creator, but then I wish we'd see more variety of buildings in creator, I don't think we get hospitals or police stations
  16. Sounds nice on first thought, but the buildings would be pretty dull IMO. Most stores in malls are identikit modules, only varying in size and the plastic sign above the door. Interior layouts are different but even those are often a common shell and it's just the shelves and signage that changes. That's why I think Lego went with the older architecture, just allows for more interesting buildings
  17. It's disappointing, but I'm not really sure we can expect more. These days both hospital and police stations are generic plastic framed buildings with a few minifigs. They don't even use standard bricks for the walls, but instead use panels to keep costs down. They are even usingnpanels in the ambulance and double/triple height bricks in the helicopter. That really limits how kids will reuse the set to build their own models. I appreciate the open back for playset use, but to have so few rooms, limited/no interconnected rooms and such poor furniture is really bad. We still have the hospital from about five years ago and this looks similar but smaller. I guess new kids are coming along and so Lego needs to keep these evergreen themes and sets refreshed, but they haven't moved on at all.
  18. Do you ever post more angles or even 'in progress' shots? I'd like to have a go at some of your OT scenes and more reference would be useful. I have already voted for you on cuusoo :)
  19. first, you should probably spoiler/remove that for those that haven't seen the movie (not even on general release in the US yet). Second, I didn't think that was a quinjet. I thought the only weapon we see is the gatling gun (which is missing on the lego model)
  20. UK Lego store leaflets for May have this offer Does that mean they're all getting those bricks stocked in the PaB wall? If so I think a trip might be needed, I could do with a ton of tan for buildings. actually - are PaB cups still value for money for normal bricks? eg 1x3 tan bricks on bricklink are around 5p each - how many would you get in a PaB cup?
  21. Voted for Gun store but really that was just for the shuttering/slats on the walls (whatever they're called). I think the saloon would be a better main model or perhaps a blend of the two (not sure Lego are ever going to make a Gun Store)
  22. Sounds amazing. Even though shipping is very reasonable, have you considered uploading the file/s to a Dropbox account or similar and then giving purchasers access to download? Would reduce your shipping costs and time packing, and let people get hold of the product more quickly. Just a thought
  23. Scaling up is the difficult part though. You're increasing the radius of the curves so those pieces won't work anymore. Has there been any research/threads on how to achieve different radius curves and domes etc in Lego? I agree it's too blocky for me personally, likewise with Yoda. Which is fine, let's me save my money for the B-wing UCS or the haunted house (btw, that is a beautiful R2 MOC)
  24. I love it! Your micro dioramas are really a marvel and an inspiration
  25. oh, thats a fantastic resource - thanks! Off hand (never used LDD in anger), do you know if you can easily select and change the colour of a brick? Then I'd be able to even change the pet shop around some and get a custom list of parts. Perfect.
