I have the smaller sky tree and that is extremely fragile. You build up from a triangle shape with these tiny 1x1 and 1x2 blocks, often placed offset, and as you get higher you have to start forming more of a circle shape. Feels like building a house of cards. Looks great when done, and the LED base sets it off nicely. I think my favourites are probably the space shuttle and shrine gate.

Never thought I'd even contemplate this, but I recently ordered a bunch of mini star wars ships, so I might give it a go :)
-
That's ok - I ordered that from bricklink and didn't realise it was wrong until it turned up :)

The VW camper looks a little like the Rock Band bus which here are instructions for here - Link to pdf

I guess that's the downside to storing flat in a drawer - you never rebuild anything at the bottom of the pile (plus there is no real organisation to it)
-
How do you store your instructions? As our Lego collection was mostly my son's until recently, he just kept them all in a drawer. But rifling around for different books means they get dog-eared or worse. I've tried to keep my more 'precious' instructions in the original bags with cardboard backing, sometimes two sets share a bag. I'm thinking to get more card so each set of instructions can be stored separately, and then stacking them flat in a cupboard Is that he best way to minimise damage? I guess the cardboard and having them bagged should keep them well enough. I'd considered a suspension file but mightthey get damaged over time like that?

Two lego technic sets up for sale to make some space for my son's growing collection plus a general move away from Technics to other types of lego. - 8275 Bulldozer. This is a relatively recent set, which includes power functions and remote control. Includes box, all pieces and instructions and is in good condition generally although the corners of the box have a little damage from opening. £150 - 8421 Mobile Crane. This is a classic big technic set. Unfortunately I don't have the box for this, but it has all the parts (I also bought new replacement pneumatic hose so you can cut it down yourself). Stickers applied. Includes instructions which are in a 'used' condition having a crinkled cover and a little dog-eared but perfectly servicable. £150 Prices are plus delivery costs - or you're welcome to collect (or I can drop off to you if you're not too far). I live in Windsor but am often around the M3/M4 corridor for work.

super detailed review, and its great to hear some feelings about the set along with the facts. This set is something my daughter has her eye on for her birthday and from reading this review she'll be very happy. I didn't want to buy her something that was simply 'for girls', but this looks far from a cynical marketing exercise. I love the playset approach with the open backs to the house, and the modular building gives scope for customisation in a simple way even by kids. And I love the furniture - I like a lot of the houses from Lego, but often they aren't furnished and I think that adds a lot to these friends sets. I don't even mind the minifigs themselves. Having them slightly more realistic probably helps with role-play. I don't understand why you can't move their legs independently or twist their hands. or that they don't have holes in their bums to stay sat on chairs - that limits playability which is a bit backwards.

This is great. How are you fixing them to the modulars, or are you just resting them in front? In your pics it looks like the modulars are raised up maybe by one plate?

Cheeky Wotsits. RRP is £18, that's a tiny discount. I'd be tempted to return it if I didn't secretly want it anyway :/ Thanks for the heads up though

Are friends reviews all in the town section?

Looks great. Do you have the overall dimensions, including height and length? I'm wondering how it would fit in the fire brigade. I'm not a fan of the old one that comes in the set (it's nice but you wouldn't have one that old in modern times). The one that comes with the Dire Brigade is 7 wide (if you count the ladder that sticks out othe side), about 6.5 high, and 18 studs long.

Oh man, that's a useful but dangerous website.nthanks - I think ;) Just bought propellor adventures and the Lego delivery truck.nhad my eye on propellor adventures for a while, just for those engine cowlings. Couldnt resist at practically half price

Back up again already. Are amazon sales often so short?

Hi, Been lurking and posting here and there, thought it was time to say hello. Like many I had Lego as a child, but our family collection was 'donated' to younger relatives when we grew up. I got back into it after buying a few small sets for my son. I started off with the lovely big technics sets - 8421 was my first and it was awesome. Then came 8275 bulldozer with its amazon RC functions - it was never like that in the olden days. Then I went onto eBay and bought my favourite set from when I was young - 8860 technic chassis. So many fantastic features, the memories came flooding back. Since then I've discovered the joys of SW Lego and the modular buildings, and am moving away from the technics sets. I love the details and little touches in things like the VW camper and mini modulars. I think my favourite sets at the moment are the UCS imperial shuttle - so imposing, the VW Camper - so many tiny details and a joy to build, and the mini modulars - which packs in so much of the character of the larger sets I have two kids - a son who is 10, and a daughter who is 7. My son enjoys making mini modular scale stuff at the moment, and my daughter can't decide whther she wants Lego friends or the Dino set for her birthday :)

next phase of expansion ordered. Took ages as I couldn't decide on boxes Vs drawers. In the end my son suggested boxes with lockable lids in case of accidents, which is smart thinking at his age I think. We currently have a big wooden set of drawers that my father made, which holds bricks and plates and 'misc little bits', but its getting a bit cramped in there; Technics and larger normal lego (car parts, house stuff etc) is in 7x 4 litre boxes from 'really useful boxes' in the UK ; then technics small parts (connectors etc) are in two of these . for the expansion I've ordered another one of these - link and some drawer dividers (here) . This new tower will hold all my technics/PF pieces. The technics connectors etc will be moved to the dividers and be located in the same tower, as you often need quick access to different parts when building, so having them in separate boxes was a little annoying. That frees up the two sets of small boxes (32 x 0.3 litre) for small normal lego parts, I'll have 7, 4 litre boxes to spread out the house/car parts a bit more and room for expansion later, and the top wooden drawer in my main unit will get freed up so the large normal parts can spread out - need more room for slopes and large plates. Once I get through some sorting/organising I'll try and post some pics.

My son is making a mini modular and is using These for a roof. But he's stuck when it comes to the corner. I can't seem to find a 2x2x2 corner roof piece on bricklink or anywhere else. Do Lego not make them? Seems strange that they'd have roof pieces that you can't join up at the corners.. Any help would be most welcome. And perhaps others could use this thread for similar questions?

Found raaco storage units which seem good, but perhaps the drawers are a bit small. So I'd like some advice from you as to the sizes of containers you use. Here is a list of the different configurations they do Link Does this look like it'd be workable?

two sets a year is 20 more sets. Are there 20 more Star Wars vehicles they could do without revisiting previous ones? Vehicles that would appeal to a broad enough range of people to justify an expensive UCS set? I want a new X-wing, ISD and Falcon, but thats partly me being limited in funds (Falcon) and hesitant to buy something flimsy (current ISD) when I can see what they've done with the SSD and Venator.

Thanks. Ordered a bunch of my favourites. Can anyone recommend parts to build small display stands? Ideally clear if possible

I'd like something modern for contrast. With the Town Hall and Fire Brigade we have two similar styled buildings - grand and flat fronted, and I think that would make it difficult to do a bank (which at least in the UK are often similar in appearance to the Town Hall)

is there a definitive list of all the mini sets for SW? eg the 4487 etcs, the mini Star Destroyer and others. I'd like to put together a little collection but need something to start from so far I have found: 4484 - X-wing and TIE advanced 4485 - Anakin and Sebulba's podracers 4486 - Snowspeeder and AT-ST 4487 - Jedi Starfighter and Slave 1 4488 - Millenium Falcon 4489 - AT-AT 4494 - Imperial Shuttle 20018 - AT-AT 30053 - Republic cruiser 30054 - AT-ST 30056 - Imperial Star Destroyer

I have an almost perfect organiser that I use for small nuts and bolts. Lots of small drawers that all pivot out when I pull one, so you have immediate access to everything easily. Only problem is they aren't sealed. By that I mean that when closed, there are still gaps above the drawers, and so inevitably small Lego bits would go everywhere. Why is finding good storage so difficult? I do have a nice (but expensive) metal case I bought from B&Q. Lots of separate boxes inside, and the top has a layer of foam which creates a seal when you close the lid. I use it to store my nanoblocks.
