I really don't think people should be able to switch Advanced classes, but that's just a roleplaying preference. Having a look at all the advanced abilities, I can see already that the QMs will have a lot more to juggle. I think there will be a core of players who want to get to 15+, and hopefully a core of QMs who are happy that the game just got a lot more complicated.

Well done to the players, and some great sets as always def! What was the thinking behind the Witchbreed puzzle? To see if people would share their pieces and get some valuable information in return? -

QM Note - I am happy for Nerwen to choose for Gorg this round as he is the only one that hasn't posted. ---------------------- Results of Round One of the Vermin Battle Knifk -> Baby Dragon = Critical Hit Gorg -> Baby Dragon = Damage Guts Holla -> Green Snake = Critical Hit Dak Nikolus -> Demon Bat = Special Damage >Sarick Lanse -> Red Snake = Shield (Magic Burst) Nerwen Calmcacil ->Mongrel Dog = Special Damage This is clearly the toughest fight the group have had so far. Knifk, in his customary spearhead position, attacks first, going for the baby dragon and smashing it with his trusty morning star (9 damage). Gorg, the other Orc heavy hitter on the team, also aims for the baby dragon but his swing with the bone club misses and the dragon rakes its claws into his green flesh (4 damage). The ever-reliable Guts goes for the green snake and scores a fine hit with his rusty shortsword (9 damage). Dak aims for the Demon Bat that is flying high up overhead, but the fast, dizzying flight of the bat causes him to become Confused for 3 turns. Sarick manages to unleash the full power of his Frost magic in a terrifying Magic Burst, which hits all of the enemies but causes more problems for the beasts and vermin (8 damage to Demon Bat and Baby Dragon, 16 damage to both Snakes, killing them, and the Mongrel Dog). Encouraged by this, Nerwen confronts the mongrel, but underestimates the speed of the hurting beast, and gets bitten (5 damage), leaving her perilously close to being knocked out. Three enemies remain! Any enemy not targeted will get a Free Hit on the party after everyone has acted. OOC: I think all the calculations are right. Let me know if I've made any mistakes. Really miffed at Sarick's boosted power level due to the Healing Staff, and him rolling Shield. This was supposed to be a really tough fight after the one-round wonder last time! Grrrr! Now I know how Jeb feels OOC2: Fixed Sarick's Ether. I re-read the Rules and it definitely says that no Ether is lost. Apologies. -
Tarn replies to Tesni, noticing the difference in her voice but not commenting on it. "Well, you were right to be suspicious of the alchemists. The Guild of Invision had us running around Eubric getting ingredients for a plague! We did rescue a young lad though, and destroyed the ingredients and the recipe so the plague couldn't be recreated. My Questmates were cool but I missed you and Ellaria."
-
Tarn smiled at Tesni, "Hi Tesni!" he said brightly. She looked different somehow. He noticed the faint purple aura and thought the sword of Darkness he had given to her at the Porthiar Burial Chamber had clearly been used alot during her Quest.

The party head right, down a tunnel that immediately gets smaller. This tunnel winds on downwards for several hundred metres and is quite tight and cramped. It opens up into a larger area, however this appears to be a dead end. Sitting, slithering and flying in front of them are an array of creatures - a bat, a mongrel dog, a green snake, a red snake and a baby dragon. As one, they look at the party with malevolent glowing eyes, as if being controlled by an unseen force, and attack. Prepare for battle! Heroica RPG - Quest#13: The Darkstar

OOC: Bingo! I was wondering if you'd use Sorrow, she was the obvious choice as NPC. For the record, a mage or cleric would still be able to cast spells but not use weapons. In Quest#5 (from which I totally ripped this idea off, thanks cralegoboy!) we gave the torch to the level 1 mage. "Fine, I guess it makes sense for me to hold the torch, lest something... unpleasant happen to any of you whilst holding it." Leading the way as she has the torch, Sorrow guides them deeper into the mine. The air is musty and smells tainted somehow. The mine entrance area heads down a slight incline, and then two tunnels branch left and right. Which way will the party head? -

As Knifk takes care of the boards in proper Orc fashion, a cold wind rushes up out of the mine in an eerie, unsettling hiss. Looking at one another, the party head into Ve'er's abandoned mine. Close to the entrance, there is still light coming in. There is equipment here; a wooden stick, an oil drum, and a tinderbox. Taken together, they create a torch. Which member of the party will carry the torch? They will not be able to carry any other weapons whilst the torch is equipped. -

The party hand their gold to Nerwen, who hands the 30 pieces to Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Town Watch. "Ah, yes, this is just the ticket. I shall make sure this gets put in our evidence locker straightaway! Come on lads, let's leave these fine heroes to the mine." The corrupt Town Watch leave the Tavern area, and the party stand alone in the main street again. They are down 30 gold pieces, but hope they will find some unclaimed loot in the mine. Party: Guts Holla (played by Scubacarrot) Level 3 Rogue Power: 6 Health: 9/9 Gold: 0 Inventory: Rusty Shortsword (WP:3), Potion, Venom, Bedroll Sarick Lanse (played by Xarrzan) Level 3 Mage Power: 8 Health: 7/7 Ether: 7/7 Gold: 10 Inventory: Healing Staff (WP:5, healing effect) equipped, Shark Fang Dagger (WP: 3),Opal Gem (Ice), Potion, Magic Hairbrush Dak Nikolus (played by darthnihilus) Level 3 Rogue Power: 6 Health: 9/9 Gold: 0 Inventory: Twin Longswords (WP:3), Venom, 2 Potions, Bedroll Nerwen Calmcacil (played by Chromeknight) ** Party Leader ** Level 3 Cleric Power: 6 Health: 6/11 Ether: 4/7 Gold: 0 Inventory: Wooden Staff (WP:3), Potion x2, Remedy, Fire Bomb Gorg (played by Lordofdragonss) Level 2 Barbarian Power: 5 Health: 9/9 Gold: 5 Inventory: Bone club (WP:3), a bottle of Mead, Potion Knifk (played by Bioniclover) Level 3 Knight Power: 6 Health: 9/12 Gold: 5 Inventory: Morning Star (WP:3), Wyrm Shield (SP:2), Potion Ve'er is not a large village, and they find the abandoned mine easily enough: The entrance has been boarded up, presumably by the Town Watch. What will the party do? QM Note - Good job on handing the money back. Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch talked a good game, but was sadly very much open to a bribe. I promise you will get some good stuff in the mine to make up for having to lose your money. Also, check out the mine entrance pic, I was really pleased with what I built, I thought it came out really well. Easily the best thing I've made so far -
I personally don't like the acronym function for stats cos it doesn't work on my iPod Touch, I can't hover over them and see what they say

Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch mulled this over. "I think if you would hand the gold back as evidence... to be kept in safekeeping by Ve'er's fine law enforcement establishment, then I could definitely see a way to avoid any further paperwork and a visit back to the station, on account of your being heroes from Heroica Hall." -

QM Note - Nice try DN, but I don't think Dak is that powerful. I see him as more of an Empath than a Telepath. So when you talk about sensing hostility in rooms, or moods changing, or even concentrating and seeing if someone is lying, that's fine. Messing with 4 law enforcement officers to change their perceptions, not going to happen. You aren't a Jedi! ---------------------- Dak concentrates really, really hard, but the lawmen are not weak-minded, and his attempts at an elaborate illusion fail. On hearing Sarick's words, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch signals to one of his men. A pen and paper is produced, and he hands them to the Naga. "By all means, create a written account of your actions. It will only make my job easier as I can produce it as evidence. I'm a stickler for spelling and grammar though, so make sure there are no mistakes please." He then addresses both Sarick's and Nerwen's attempts at flattery, standing tall and puffing his chest out a bit he continues: "I do believe in keeping myself and my men at peak physical fitness at all times. As a go-getting law enforcer you never know when you are going to need that extra bit of strength or stamina to apprehend criminals. But a hero? No, I have never wanted that for myself. I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town watch, am dedicated and professional, I do not aspire to be a great hero; certainly, in terms of law and order here in Ve'er, I already am fulfilling that role. You say you are Heroes of Heroica Hall? I have indeed heard many good deeds done by that establishment. Why then, would you attack innocent townsfolk, down on their luck? And stealing the last of their gold? How dispicable. I don't understand why you would do such a thing! Any more to say in your defence, or shall we go quietly to the station now?" Sorrow shot Guts a look of comtempt. "I thought we were on the same page, that the ends justify the means. These Town Watch buffoons are putting their own town at risk in trying to apprehend us, it is not our fault if we take them out. They are in our way." Captain Hlin Horrkkba listens to Knifk and Sarick's reasonable defense, nodding occassionally, but continues with his long speech: "I have here a sworn statement from Artie, with additional comments from Bert. It states that: We was mindin our own bizness in front of the Tarvern when these wierd lookin people came and hassled us (hassled us!). There was two Orcs, a snakeman thing, a hot female Elf, a half Elf, and a pale lookin woman (very pale she was!). We wished them a good day and enquired as to their general health. They asked us questions about the mine which we was happy to answer (we was happy to answer them!). They then set about us with their weapons for absolutely no reason (no reason at all!). They stole our money which is all we had left after the mine closed down (all we had left!) As you can see, I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba, have found you, matching to a tee the description given. All except that one over there with the suspicious-looking hood on. All this talk of assault and stealing is sickening and I must ask you to accompany myself and these fine gentlemen to the station, where we will solve this little misunderstanding." What will the party do? QM Note - There is a specific way you can avoid this without fighting. -

After his outburst, Sorrow looked at Guts and hissed: "We don't have time for this. Guts, we need to eliminate them and get to the mine. We have delayed too long already, and this Horrkkba idiot and his band of fools can only hold us up." -
Tarn watches his friends Atramor and Althior have a drinking contest, and decides, rather unwisely, that he should join in. He necks several tankards of ale before falling into the large form of Skrall the Ranger sat nearby.

The party decide to leave the Tavern and head to the mine. Nerwen thanks the barkeep for his help in Orcish and they head out. Outside the Tavern though, are members of Ve'er Town Watch! 4 lawmen stand before them, armed to the teeth. The man in blue is clearly the leader. He speaks to the party: "Well well well, it appears I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch, has apprehended those ruffians who beat up two defenceless townfolk not moments ago. I am surprised you are not fleeing the scene with all due haste, but then, you probably thought the Town Watch full of slow, plodding lawmen and not someone as dashing and dynamic as myself. That was your first mistake!" The 3 guards behind him listen to this and look at each other in resignation. One even shrugs his shoulders as if to indicate, "not again!". What will the party do? -
"Care to share your troubles? I am a good listener, for a Barbarian!"
-
Tarn forced his voice into a whisper and apologised to his Mage friend. "Sorry, Althior. Our Quest was successful but wouldn't have even been necessary had those with power and knowledge thought harder about the consequences of their actions."

The barkeep looks thoughtful. "Well, as you can tell, the lack of a general store in the high street would be an issue, but I'm sure there will still be items like torches and rope in the mine. The Town Watch can't have removed everything from there. I wish you luck on your journey, it's clearly not a pleasant place to go. You are indeed brave heroes. I hope that you find this Darkstar, or whatever's causing the sickness problems in this town. You will be doing everyone here a great service. Here, have some drinks on the house." QM Note - Drinks are only suitable for roleplay and do not have any effect on players. Unlike real life! Let me know if you want to go back to the magic shop before heading to the mine. -
Tarn's normally easy-going demeanor evaporates, and the lanky Barbarian raises his voice: "Don't talk to me about the Guild of Invision. I have no time for those alchemists. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should!" He then looks around, slightly embarrassed by his outburst.
-
"Amorith, how are you doing?" Tarn exclaimed, pleased to see his friend. "My, we are full of in-jokes this evening, aren't we?"
-
"I would welcome another Quest with you, my friend. Mainly to keep an eye on you to make sure you do not fall into old habits!" Tarn smiles and brings the Rogue a drink. McCafferey clucks nearby, and Tarn grins, "How is the magic chicken here?", remembering that he'd called her a magic chicken to help calm Julian's fears.
-
Tarn greeted Atramor warmly, giving his former party leader a firm warriors handshake. "Hail, Atramor. My mission to my home village went well. I have meditated on the events of the two quests with my master, and know that we all acted most honourably during them. Even you, my friend! How are things in Eubric?"
-
Tarn made his way back into the Hall, feeling hungry from his journey to Eubric from his village in the mountains of Titaan. His stay at Rystael's monastary had revitalised him after his two quests, and they had talked long into the night about the decisions he had made during those quests. He believed himself a just and fair warrior, and Rystael had confirmed this, with a glint in his eye and a smile on his face. "You are becoming the hero I always knew you could be," said the old man. "It warms my heart to see you, my boy, but your place is no longer here with me, but out there." He went up to the Questboard and was pleased to see there were 3 open Quests. He put his name down for all of them, as each one seemed important and another way for him to right more wrongdoing in the world.
