Does anybody else like Motorcycles around here?

Sounds like it. I rode with/ without a learners for almost 3 years. Finally received my endorsement late 2010. Unfortunately the few friends that ever owned a bike, had already sold them for diesels. $185/yr is an awesome deal, especially for full. I didn't have that option based on the bikes age. At least for Progressive coverage. I was looking for the cheapest anyways, did not plan on wrecking it either. (I know, who does ) -
Ooohhhh indeed, those look great! Not only that but, I bet the price to build them looked good too! I hope to one day build one or two more for that train (only have one car). Great work though!

Finally! Thank you for finding/posting pics! This looks great! To those who MODed this, you nailed it, for guessing! This set looks spectacular, can't wait until I recover from the Maersk!

That and today when I cancelled my insurance, I found that it was only $49/mo liability only) + gas... Much better than my car! Did not know that, thanks for the info. Wish I would have found that out 3 years ago I tell ya, it took me three times to pass the riding test. Our coarse here is very short and narrow and my bike had a very bad turning radius. Dropped my foot to many times and botched the slalom test -
Awesome tri-level layout 'AG' Very impressive work indeed. I had seen a previous layout of yours a while back on youtube and was impressed then. Keep up the great work!

Awesome job on this steamer 'DG' I love the every bit of this train, especially the passenger and caboose. This would definitely look good in a western themed town. Keep up the great work!

Neat thrift shop 'AK'! Neat use of the Minifig bases. Love all the merchandise! This would go well with the new marina, IMO. To bad for the owner of the bike Keep up the great work.

Great review 'WhiteFang'. After reading this, I am now sure that missing this set is not a big deal. Its a neat but, interesting plane. The feature that killed it for me was the way the stretcher is to be loaded... and correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't it a bit redundant to attach the stretcher (that should already have "wheels") to a wheeled base? That all seemed a bit strange, never would have known. Thanks for the insight 'WF'

I suppose, I guess I forgot to mention that, Market St. started much lower. I bid on it until it passed $250, in the FIRST day (6 day run time). The seller had thousands of pos. feedback, and sold many different items (not exclusively Lego). I'd agree, fully, on that however, someone spending that much on a set obviously know what they are doing. A couple months ago I placed a bid, not expecting to win, for $1100 for 2 SF Super Chiefs, 5 or 6 cars (one of each per set), a large oval w/ switch pts, and a few sets (train shed, crossing, etc) Had I won, I wouldn't have felt too bad. I calculated the price if I sold each set at the average they normally go for and would have still made a couple hundred in profit. It sold for a little over $1300 so I let it be. All the action happened in the last 2 minutes of auction. I really only wanted the the SF cars, as the observation cars are always sold for a ton on eBay or have an a 'Buy it Now' of $300+, anyway. It only makes sense that a set will reach its high. That MS that sold for $730 was probably a very rare case. A pair of Cafe Corners went for a little more, and they are twice as big to start with. I think these sets (modulars) will peak at $7-800 but, average as high as $600. At least thats what they have been doing. It would be crazy if the hit $1000USD Photos would be great if you ever get around to it! I was referring to 10173 but, the comment about the grey bogies was for: I try not to worry about not having instructions but, I have some sort of self-diagnosed-OCD for having 100% complete sets (w/instructions) In this case $16 seems a little asinine. It's not like I need them as opposed to just wanting. I don't build, destroy, build my sets. I have enough new, by new I mean new to the collection (they are used), sets to dismantle, wash and rebuild for piece check.

Welcome to EB 'McBuddha'. You have found a wonderful place to discuss a wonderful hobby! I'm sure you'll enjoy! BTW there is a place for this. I'm sure a moderator will move it. Its on the main forum section at the bottom or click here. Have fun

Well for stating out, you definitely need to start stockpiling parts. I recommend Lego.com to buy a big sets (i.e. Grand Emporium or Fire Brigade). Big sets = lots of parts @ decent price. Or you can check out their pick-a-brick (PAB) section. Make sure you choose you region if needed. (top right) Another alternative is eBay.com/lego sets to see if you can get any sets at a price lower than Lego.com. The other favorite among MOCer's is Bricklink.com. As with eBay, this will require a membership (free) and a way to pay (i.e. paypal.com) This site provides a ton of sellers that provide a huge selection of parts that can be sold individually or in bulk. Its a very easy sight to use and there are tutorials on this site if you search (make sure you choose "search by relevance") Best of luck

how many years until i can build this
LEGO Guy Bri replied to bricklayer's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Until you can do that, you can try now, or in 5 days and so on. There is no answer for that. Only your skill. As for build time: apparently it took one guy 14hr 49min to assemble the 5922pc Taj Mahal. That castle probably has 3-4 times that amount. Plus factor in design, figuring piece placement/configuration, back tracking (no instructions), your personal building speed, and your looking at a VERY long while. 20+ hrs on 10,000+pc models easy. Only a loose estimate -
Have you ever desing LEGO by yourself?
LEGO Guy Bri replied to wei's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'd be careful on a first post like this. The title seems a bit misleading, to me, or what its actually about. Anyway there are things here in the guidelines that you might want to check out. Just so you don't provoke any moderators. Good luck and welcome to EB -
Finally ordered it! 2 for starters, hopefully a couple more later this year

Awesome bike 'stacker9000'. Love the air induction pipe with dual cones and in a great color! Yea lesson learned. That and don't buy from auto auctions in WV. That aside, after and additional $1000 for wire harness, battery, and new tires, she ran like a champ (no other engine problems). Besides, a thousand dollar loss over three years vs. riding that beast then sell for original price paid... Doesn't seem like to big of a loss. Heck KellyBlueBook retail it, as is, at $2700 -
Thanks for adding me 'Brickster'. Great town! I love how it changes time to time. I like the Maersk too, finally have them on there way. Super excited, though can't build them yet (no room or storage for other train). Looking forward to one day ordering the new Harbor and other city/creator set as well. I'll get out some trains for a photo shoot as soon as I can. In the mean time here are my steamers. Oh and should I post the others here or start a new topic? Either way, it doesn't bother me.

Definitely a valid route,. Can't believe you built those cars and Holiday Train from stock piles! Where you able to use the light gray trucks for them? I know those are expensive alone. Unfortunately I am slowly rebuilding assorted bricks and modified elements (I don't break sets up). Building large scale Lego models maybe a ways off. I do however take another road, buying incomplete sets for low and BLing the missing/wrong pieces. My latest is 10016 MOT Tanker Car I purchased on eBay for $15. It was a complete set but, has many wrong colored pieces and no instructions. I'm pretty sure it was a just a MOC. I've spent maybe and additional $5-6 bucks + a few on shipping for the rest. The most expensive parts where the 8 green 4x4 rond corner plate pieces which have to come overseas. They weren't too bad. So $21 for a car that averages $35+ on eBay. I still won't have the instructions because they are about $16 on BL. All in all, its a good alternative for getting expensive small sets for low.

These are my three cats Rocky (brown) and Smoky (behind); both 9 Smoky and Kittie (R.I.P. Oct. 17, 2010); she was 4. (And me) Rocky sleeping, not dead.

Thats the spirit! Best of luck An extra $30 is pretty bad but, then again if you're trying to complete a Pirate collection, I can see problems in seeing sets. Its seems everyone and their cousin are selling city sets, which keeps bids relatively lower... on most sets. Most of the high dollar are obviously the bigger retired sets but, that goes with most of the popular themes. I too have been looking for the Holiday Train for the tree. I suppose I just want a train under my tree but, Lego made on so... I'd like that one I saw one on the Bay that sold for a little over $110. That is about the max I'd pay. Totally missed it Lately they are pushing $150. Not sure why so many would want to sell them now instead of shortly before the holidays. Figure they would fetch more then. BTW has anyone looked for Lego on one of those penny bid sites like Quibids.com?

Free Lego? I'd go, just but a candy bar to appease the guilt

Great article 'Lorentzen'. It's nice to look into the past. I hope we get new houses as well

I paid a bit over RRP for many sets when I emerged out of my dark age in 09'. It took a bit to familiarize myself with the original cost vs. what it went for on eBay. I got the hang of it now and do the exact same, buying and saving sets with full intention of building. Keeping them NIB or in plastic container in the attic. I also have invested in small separate stock pile of sets that will eventually be retired. I know that annoys some but, those who spend way over RRP for a set aren't going away anytime soon. And if you're like me, needing sell my stuff to afford Lego, doing this works. This is a necessity for me, as I do not want a second job. I am a 9V train fan. So for that I average $25-$40 per 8 straight. Same goes for old road plates, $6-$10 per plate. These are the only things I will buy at their high prices. As 'Lego Otaku' said, some people like the nostalgia of collecting older sets. Where MISB comes in, seems to confuse most of us... Spending hundreds over RRP for a set and then... open or keep sealed but, then why? Are there collectors that like there sets MISB or just HAVE to open the set themselves. No judging, thats your business. If I could afford it, I admit , I would buy only MISB. Washing/scrubbing pieces with a toothbrush or restoring yellowed pieces is VERY time consuming. Aside from that I am very particular about the sets I buy to keep. I like everything looking near mint. Just my preference 'Ghandidcm': It's a pity you returned to late to get the CC or MS and unfortunate you had to pay so high for the GG. I barley got in on time to get the GG, still in it package but, no box. I bought it after seeing the high prices of the recently retired CC & MS. I had intentions of holding it to resell without having the first two. I was lucky and caught a helluva deal though. I bought them from a gent online. I thought I'd never be able to get those and was not willing to spend much over RRP. I do want the 6399 Monorail and that rarely goes for under $300. I am not so sure I will be getting that after factoring in all the new city sets coming out
-
That is something I don't mind to much. If it's for a specific minifig or a small set I will pay a little extra. Nothing stays sealed unless its intended for resale.
