tree building with 6052759 Arch 1X12X3
CaptainToad replied to CaptainToad's topic in General LEGO Discussion
so no one ever tried that? The reason I was asking is that I dont own that piece (yet) and its kinda expensive to buy a couple of those and then realize that its no good... -
I guess this is because people have certain expectations and the rumours so far and the set names given do not promise any good - in regards to expecations :) of course I am curious as well, but still, the names given suggest another kind of chima line set in a castle universe - nothing I can work with I guess I mean lets face it - if there is a robo horse - then this robo horse cannot be really used in any other context than steampunk - a 'real' horse can be used in most contexts... the names given also suggest it is gonna be centered around heroes - I don't think there will be too much space for civilians I also doubt this theme will have any usable animals - like chicken, cows etc. vehicles will contain many interesting parts, I guess, for vehicle building, something I am not really interested in I suppose it will also feature some unique colors that may or may not be compatible with what you are looking for... many people were hoping for another castle line - and these theme might actually keep any future castle line from coming out. lets face it, it may run about 3-5 years, to be honest when I heard that ninjago will feature pirates next year I was disappointed as well, because we probably wont see any new proper pirates for a long time
-
exactly! I totally understand that if you order 100 unique parts someone has to gather them together and it gets more expensive than if you ordered 100 pieces of a specific element. lego should understand that not everyone has a lego store nearby and not everyone is part of a lug
-
hey guys I was thinking recently about trying to build a tree with the element mentioned in the thread title has anyone experience with this? some pics of how it looks like?
-
wow! nexo knights... I just hope this theme will surprise me ... cause right now I am fearing the worst - it sounds kinda incompatible with my idea of creating a knights kingdom... ;(
-
true! however, they should not forget about afols and try to design sets/themes in a way that everybody can have fun with it.
-
I was very eager to buy at least one scooby set - but after careful consideration I am gonna ger them at all mainly because a) I would get too many scoobies and shaggies ;) (if there is gonna be second wave - way too many of them) b) event though I like the sets a lot there are some unique colors used that I don't have - so I would probably end up buying the mansion twice so I am probably gonna save the money and invest into the upcoming big bang theme ;0
-
there will probably be lots of vehicles I guess - and I dont like the idea...
-
you are probably right
-
I guess it all depends on what the final product will be. If its done well, I think steampunk could be awesome, if its done bad fantasy could be aweful.

Even though I like s@h very much there are always things that could be improved. Maybe lego will read this and consider it! :) My idea: lego should offer a s@h pick a brick cup :) think about it! every month there would be an offer of lets say 40 elements that you can buy in bulk in a pab cup! one cup filled with one specific element. I would really appreciate this - on the one hand it would be cool to see what they have to offer each specific month and certain elements could be obtained for a cheaper price - like for example the translucent blue 1x1 tile which you need a lot of if you want to for example create some water/sea mocs. if you buy it via pab it will be muuuuuch too expensive - if you can get it from a lego store in pab cup it becomes much more affordable. The only problem is, not all cities have lego stores and if there is no lego store in a nearby city or much worse if there is none at all in your country then you simply have bad luck. what do you think about this pab cup online idea?

Haven't had any major ussues yet. what is anoying though is bap website - it should be like the pab site - or better pab should have all elements - bap is more expensive and shipping cannot be tracked (all packages have arrived though, so far so good), pab is the real deal but many IMHO important items can only be bought via bap - and I am not talking about super special pieces here, but elements like the 2x1x3 md st grey slope - or some foliage elements - I mean, whats the problem of adding these parts to the pab site...the lack of vip points doesnt make things better either another annoying thing is that some elements are constantly out of stock, that would be ok for older elements that are no longer put into sets Example: I was toying with the idea to buy the pirates chess set - not necessarily to play chess but for the minifigs, now the soldies in that set havent been equipped with hats (which I consider mandatory if you want to army build) - so I was about to order that chess set and place a bap order at the same time and get those 8 'missing' hats, and guess what they are out of stock. - just btw, they should have added those hats to the chess set in the first place... :)

A very poorly written article! quote "But over the last few decades child’s play has been turned into big business. Marketers have learned how to exploit children’s emotional vulnerabilities in the name of profit. Instead of toys that benefit children, the industry has focused on creating quick-fix fun that makes money for shareholders. As a result, research tells us, modern children find it harder to maintain concentration, self-regulate behaviour and develop appropriate levels of empathy." unquote How stupid does that sound? Why didnt the author provide any examples? I could think of lots of reasons why children find it harder to maintain concentration etc. Imagine children whose parents dont do anything creative with them but leave them playing violent videogames all day long... (I know my examples sounds as stupid) quote"As a specialist in child development, I’ve had growing concerns that now even Lego has lost its way. Its new products veer further away from its innocent beginnings. Increasingly Lego churns out lucrative but unimaginative lines of “must-have” sets to promote new movies, games and videos. These little boxes, which come with instructive pictures on the front, unlike the traditional Lego bricks, do not result in child-directed, open-ended “real play”. They do not promote imagination; they stifle it. They do not allow children to be creative and learn to think for themselves; they tell children what to think, instilling consumerist values that risk increasing rates of stress for parents and children alike." unquote this one gets even more stupid - so this one is a specialist? :) right - so am I :) what is the author talking about here? What are the innocent beginnings? is it the traditional brick? I think you can still buy some lego creative building sets (they resemble the traditional bricks). What is the authors problem here? Is it because lego creates a model and provides the bricks and pieces along with an instruction to build it? And gives the possibilty for the child to build something else? I guess playmobile is far worse in this regard - as it does not provide any creative possibilies at all - I mean if you buy a playmobile car it will always remain a car - a lego car can become an airplane or a dinosaur maybe... :). If anyone doesnt allow children to be creative then its playmobile. Not allowing something, means not giving a choice - I think lego gives children the choice to do with the bricks what they think is best - maybe the authors children didnt inherit any creative genes and were simply not talented enough to do anything meanful with the bricks - so the author started to blame lego instead of herself. I could talk more about this nonsense - but then again it is generally very easy to demonize something if you look hard enough, you could say all videogames lack creativity - all sports lack creativity because they have a set of rules that limit what are allowed to do and what not... The guardian should really hire someone to read and check an article for its content before releasing garbage like that. And in regard to shell? if the author doesnt like shell then maybe she should go to BP or Statoil. IMHO if you write an article like that and try to demonize a company that has provided the possibility for the children to be creative you should also provide examples of another company that does a better job at it - or provide alternatives how children can be creative :) but apparently the author was lacking in creativity here. Ah, and in regard to the pink gender stereotypes - is it wrong for girls to like pink nowadays? Did the color make the sets ugly?

Lego themes that we would like to happen
CaptainToad replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Would be cool! but is as unlikely to happen as elder scrolls :) besides, I think the atmosphere of the game is rather grimm and the humour rather dark - so the lego group wont bother... :)- 451 replies

September 2015 LEGO Store Calendar!
CaptainToad replied to MaxGoof's topic in General LEGO Discussion
the tractor is a little bit of a disappointment to me. as a matter of fact I decided to only buy from the lego.shop when there is a free gift available... - the tractor doesnt cut it for me - guess I will have to wait until I get my pirates chess set.... :) -

Exactly! Lego should put animals into affordable sets that you can buy multiples if you need a specific type of animal. Actually they should bring out animals with every suitable theme!- 451 replies

I sort of overlooked this theme! Think I am gonna buy all 5 sets later rather than sooner... hopefully they will go down with the price a little

CaptainToad replied to mediumsnowman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
set 41033 - if you can get it cheap buy multiples! it contains two vines, two palm leaves, bamboos, stalks, flowers, a couple of lurps (mountains are part of landscaping too I guess). lots of dk and md st. grey pieces - I like that set! the one and only friends set so far for me -
Should new castles have (raised) blaseplates?
CaptainToad replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
they should bring out a lego creator castle with at least 2000 pieces - no raised baseplates and no wall elements - just regular bricks just btw I have been thinking lately about buying mos eisley cantina lately - as a start to get into the star wars theme - in the end I decided against it only because the build consists of 5 wall elements (I hate those)
