  1. Let me add something technical : the quality of decool knock offs for technics sets are actually pretty bad. I have 2 sets, first an exploratory set to look see, and without doing a lengthy review: 1. You will see flashing in most parts. (Material excess from molding) 2. Tolerances are like crap. You can expect friction pins to have no friction and frictionless pins to get semi stuck. 3. Parting lines of parts like beams and lift arms are visible and they use different draft surfaces compared to Lego. 4. Part variation is pretty poor, so the same part may have differences. This makes gears and mechanisms unreliable. 5. Density of material is maybe 70-85% of Lego abs. Now the magic question is why do I have 2 sets, well I plan on gluing the 2nd set as display. This is what happened to my first one anyway.
  2. This NXT IRLink Sensor (NIL1046) is meant to be plugged to the sensor port or motor / output port of EV3? I struggle to find documentation on this.
  3. So, the guy in the black with grey stripe jacket is Enigma? Great seller on BL and now we have his face!
  4. If I may just wade in. I have the home set 31313 and found the lack of the ultrasonic sensor and gyro sensor slightly disappointing. I'd get the education set 45544 and complement it with the IR sensor and remote.
  5. Hi, Can I request that you re-upload? I can't seem to get it directly from clicking..
  6. I have downloaded the source codes from below and one or two of the packages do detail what you are looking for: http://www.lego.com/en-us/mindstorms/downloads
  7. if i get my wish(es): 1. Compatible physically with EV3 / NXT (I2C I think) RJ12 physical connections to the EV3/NXT motors, whereby they are all servo motors with encoders for turn data. (yes i know EV3 shield is already available). 2. What will the final size and form factor and mounting? An UNO has the area of roughly 3/4 of EV3 brick, and also many times the size of the PF IR receiver...
  8. I bought this set for the same reason, suspension, steering, hubs and wheels. The colors are really drab and hardly in a reusable quantity (I think any color can be used well if they are abundant enough) But I personally have only built both models halfway before deciding to use them as parts. The B model really disappointed me in sense that the front suspension is fake! Come on, TLG, a little more effort and it will be functional. Maybe just 2 more steering links.
  9. Coming from competitive rc back in 2005, I find it amusing to see this suspension in an off road car. Knowing traxxas it looks like for the sake of novelty here. This kind of suspension is suited to on road with very little travel and would appear bad for jumping and progressive springs. Not to mention huge stresses on the pivot rocker, and lots of components to break. The only gain I see is to be able to keep a slim profile which is usually crucial for formula cars for aero purposes. Having said all that I'm building on for my own buggy. (Technic buggy).
  10. if you really have a 2-3 year target, it may be worthwhile to invest or get a wind tunnel. It may sound complicated or expensive but in reality just a fan and fins to get laminar flow will do. with it, you can easily evaluate your lift to air speed ratio.
  11. Hi, I'm debating whether or not to buy the 42037 as a base for small outdoor vehicular robots with Mindstorms EV3 controllers. I see this as a nice platform with independent suspension, steering and big wheels (BL prices for these things cost more than the set itself). My question is am I missing anything compared to 42029, etc etc? I already have 42009 as part donor and do not care about colour. Cost wise, I'm at my limit with 42037. 2H 2015 will not yield anything similar or cheaper, right?
  12. My first Lego set ever was 8852 - Robot, got it as a birthday present in 1988/9 (I can't recall) at 6/7. Due to a combination of reasons ($ mostly), I never got any new sets since then. A most interesting reason was that my parents did business with Lego Malaysia (it was a factory, I recall) and I used to get dumped many large sets which were always only 20-30% complete. 31313 got me out of the dark ages as I wanted to get my 5 yo son into STEM, but it seems, within 2 weeks later I'm now totally in awe of the 42009 (still in box), daring me to build it.
  13. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yEFujCvZp1yX__1D4gu4_4lX7kDwcavNncN4QV5hu4k/mobilebasic I think the best way for single order is through lego directly but you'd have to be somewhere they sell and ship directly to.
  14. It's worth it to create an account just to say I'm impressed! Bravo
  15. I had my teacher wife call sasbadi: lego wedo 9580 : RM 850 Single license : RM550 Both a little eye watering for me considering i can get nearly any technic set with gears and already have a mindstorm nxt brick to teach scratch with. I think the major consideration will be to remain with the wedo software which ia licenced or to go with scratch directly, thereby opening up the possibilities. What is your experience using both ( with regarda to the audience response, pickup, etc)
  16. Seems we need 10 posts before being promoted to be able to PM... Do you know what kind of rough pricing from both sources? I ask because both does not seem to list out the cost.
  17. Hi pcfw, Greetings from a fellow malaysian. I'm also interested to use Wedo to teach my own kindergarten and pre-k kids. Do you have a proper source for these kits? Where did you get them? Can you maybe PM me on this?
