This is really great. The talent you guys have never ceases to amaze.

Do they only give you the $5 once you get the 100 points only? I actually should probably be up to 10 Points now then: - $159 for DO - $149 for PC Thats $308, so that should be a total of 15 points correct?
-
How exactly does VIP points work? I always thought it was 1% of your total purchase. However, when I ordered the Detectives Office I got 5 VIP points (equivalent to $5), then when I ordered Palace Cinema I got another 5 VIP Points. I figured I would only get like 1.5 VIP points. So could someone explain this?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Alucard1977 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I just think if some one stays in the boundaries of a modular building LEGO does, it will get made. You cannot expect to make a 3000 or 4000 piece set and have LEGO sell it. It just doesn't make financial business sense to do that. Build something original, have some unique new build technique, throw in some new architectural components and keep the set under 1600 pieces, and you will have a shot at getting made. -

I think to win one of those in that class, you gotta be right in the sweet spot with the piece count with 1500-1700 pieces. No more then 2000. I also think enough people need to answer that people will buy more then one of said set and so forth. -

There is an arguement to be made that the detective could be civic (sort of police). I know, a stretch. But still. I mean it is called a detective agency, not a PI. And he is investigating illegal cookie making, which is a matter a of civil lego law. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Really good points. I forgot about the Parisian Restaurant. I haven't gotten around to buying it yet since I was trying to catch up on the older ones (FB, TH, GE). As for a corner unit, I think if they wanted to, they can still do a business on the ground floor and apartments on the second and third floors. I see that in NYC all the time. The question is, how did the 1950ish era the Modular's are going for handled that? That would work actually pretty well. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I don't know how popular of an opinion this is, but I think we need the next set to be something like the Petshop again. For a proper lego town, I think we need more townhouses in the Modular sets. At the moment, we have only 2 sets for a residence. GG and PS. That doesn't make much sense, especially with us having a movie theater, a mall, a town hall, a hotel, a street market, a french restaurant, a detectives office, barber shop, pool hall, pet shop, fire station and a grocery store. I mean that is a lot of commerce for a total of 3 or 4 apartments across the board. I have been thinking of getting more petshops for this, but at the end of the day, I like having different sets. Which actually makes me want another set like the pet shop for the next modular. This has also given me a SEVERE itch for the GG. But that is one expensive itch to scratch. VERY EXPENSIVE. At the going rate, I could build a Petshop neighborhood at that price! -
It's weird because creator sets are still good price per piece. All the new City sets have a horrible price per piece.

Me and my son are building the Petshop now. After building that the only thing I wish they did with this set is build it on 2 16 stud plates like they did there. Other then that, since this build we also did the Grand Emporium and the Petshop. This build is the best. The way they tell the story is brilliant and works really well with the time one gives to the build. I hope Lego continues to tell little stories per room in the future modular buildings they do. It adds more to the build experience. Just makes it whole in my opinion.

Review: 31036 Creator Toy and Grocery Shop 3-in-1

Not really. Doesn't work too well with Modular buildings. -
looking at this again, I think this building would work nicely next to the Parisian Restaurant as well. I think it would compliment it well.

Well if I had your skill set, what I would do is an elevated Train, just like here: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=108396 That should also solve some of the space issue. Since your going up. Now, I would replace the Grand Emporium here, with a corner trainstation. From that, I would use your open concept so that you can look down into the actual train station. I am not sure if you were ever at Grand Central Station in NYC, but it is on a corner, and it goes down stairs and opens up beautifully. I always thought Grand Central Station would be a beautiful Modular. In this picturem those stairs are coming from the main street level. Corner view:

I mean, wow, just wow. One better then the other. Is this your audition for Lego or something?
-
This actually reminds me of a stake place I use to go to in NYC. Funny enough, it had a cigar bar as well. One of the very few places that was allowed.
-
I really appreciate the exit out to the roof done the right way. The way official lego builds did it never sat right with me. Have you considered adding a water tower up there? Would add one more aspect to the roof that fits in with other modulars. I also like those lion heads. Good use of them.

Seriously, the detail on the front of the building is beyond amazing. This is better then any Official Lego Modular design I have seen to date.

I am actually surprised by the negativity on this set. While the other builds aren't great, the main build is. Especially for the size class. Sure, building modulars is better, but I look at this as a mini modular. I put this up there with the bike shop and cafe rather easily. In addition, they work together rather well as well. That is how my son is using it. Personally I am looking forward to more creator sets of this sort. But I would like more houses as well. -
This looks great. Kind of reminds me of Grand Central in NYC. With that said, you ever consider making this a corner piece?
-
The term master builder definitely fits in your instance. This plus all your other stuff. I am a big fan.

Still waiting on my PetShop, but I really need to get that Palace cinema soon as well. Actually just checked, it shipped. But it's weird I didn't get an email on the shipment.

Does the firetruck fit into the station?

Well, I just bought 3 used Modular sets. So I will let you know once I build them what I think. I am slightly worried about missing parts and so forth. Having said that, I have collected Transformers for about 5 years and now buy lego (not yet collect). I think the rules I have with Transformers stands with lego as well: 1- Buyer beware when buying from eBay. I find most lack luster items come from eBay when used. 2- I am not really worried when I buy from a forum. Usually, when you buy from a TF or Lego forum, you know the people that own the item care about the item and the community so they are not giving you a dud. If there is an issue, they will most likely call it out. 3- On a forum, check feedback and post count. I know on my transformer boards each member gets a feedback section. Here it's in one thread. Which ever way it is, check it. The guy with very few posts selling something for a "too good to be true" price, is most likely selling you something you don't want. 4- Face to face deals at conventions and so forth are the best. You can see the item and decide for yourself. Plus conventions have competition which brings the price down for an item. Either that, or a guy who is willing to sell at more reasonable prices. The amount of deals I have gotten doing conventions and forums is insane. My Transformers collection would have run me at least another $10K had I gone through eBay or some other source. And with 80s transformers, good luck getting MISB. I have already saved about $700 over eBay buying loose Modular buildings either here or in person.

Wow, very nice. I was in Rotterdam last year for business and that brought me back. Now can you make Melief and Bender?

I fear to see your next build. Why do I see a post about you building the Lake Dragon from Disney World Lego shop and putting it in your local lake?
