Wizarding World 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
Huigberts Builds replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Oh? Never knew that, didn't have the time to build mine yet, I wonder which version I have. How long did it approximately take for them to change it? Pretty cool they changed it, although the fact it happens so often in these big sets is slightly worrying. It looks like it's a colour correction on the stickers, from Bright Light Orange (old) to Gold (new) -

Ugh, what's up with these misspelled stickers on the big D2C sets all the time. One would think quality control would be a little bit better on these things, definitely when it's marked as the definitive version. Looking at the Daily Bugle this will probably never get fixed, which is a shame. If they could change an entire figure in a star wars set (75188) you'd assume a simple sticker would be easy as pie. Oh well, it's upside down anyway, so it wouldn't be too noticeable I suppose. -

I was wondering, with the new game Marvel Rivals getting all this hype, what do you guys think are the chances of us getting sets for that some day (if it manages keep interest up ofcourse)? I know lego generally stays away from games of existing licenses, but there are a few notable exceptions every now and then. Not to mention the game is very much like Overwatch, which ofcourse they have done in the past. I think even as early as the Alpha and the Beta there are already some very cool designs, both for locations and characters, that would translate very well into sets. -

Yeah, it's official. It's a promotional mini version of Fauna's house. In March you were able to build them in Lego stores across Europe and then you were allowed to take them with you afterwards. https://brickset.com/sets/6508941-1/Fauna-s-House -

Well, I mean Miles and Gwen are basically the main characters of these films, ofcourse they're gonna be included. And thank God for that, we've waited years to finally get a set for these movies, these are some long overdue variants. I just kinda hope Gwen will be unmasked, or alternatively have some printing on the hood. -

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but apparently some footage of D23 leaked and there are some Lego shorts coming for Pixar properties like Cars, Incredibles, Brave, Finding Nemo and Coco. Now the latter 3 aren't anything too special, as we've seen them pop up like that in sets or the cmf series recently, but the other 2 are pretty weird, as we haven't seen them for a while. Mr Incredible also once again looks like he does in the game rather than in the sets. It's interesting to say the least. Then again, they aren't using set Grogu for the Star Wars stuff either, so it probably doesn't mean anything. -

According to exabrickslegogo_ our predictions for the Weasley Clock GWP were indeed right and it's made of metal like the Star Wars coins and exclusive to purchasers of the Burrow, apparently releasing September 1st. I assume an official reveal wouldn't be that far of now, probably next Friday or something. -

Hopefully it's an Extremis Serum Pepper. Maybe this one is for the most part a big display for Igor? He was kinda left out of the previous displays, had to kinda stand awkwardly to the side -

Maybe for Marvel D2C's, but compared to other themes, X-men as a franchise is still wildly more successful than some other ones that got D2C's. Sure, the movies have been hit and miss ever since X2, but the same can be said for the MCU since the start. But one can't really say it is (or rather was) a complete downward trajectory, we've since gotten First Class, Days of Future Past (the most successful and arguably the best movie in the franchise, especially when watching the Rogue Cut), Logan. And that's not even including the Deadpool movies, in which the Mansion also appeared, which have been the most successful movies of the entire franchise. It wasn't really surprising Deadpool and Wolverine would be at least as big of a succes either. And sure, this set is based on the animated series (which might also be a licencing thing, considering the movie version is a real building), but I would say it's a very smart move. Lego obviously couldn't cash in on Deadpool 3, but it was obvious interest in X-men related stuff, at the very least Wolverine, would be high afterwards. It's like when they did the Batman sets with Suicide Squad members when that movie came out, it's a non-tie-in tie-in. This year has been a big push for X-men altogether, the animated series, Deadpool, a new jumping on point for the comics. And if lego can look at Spider-man and sell it as a franchise rather than individual projects, they could do the same for X-men. I do agree that it's a pretty big jump from barely any sets to suddenly one big, expensive D2C. Which I understand might come as a surprise but Lego is likely just seeing it as an extension of Marvel. When a theme is that successful they get room to play around a little. Not to mention it's a bit of a quiet season for Marvel related stuff, that's how we got the Daily Bugle the first time around as they couldn't move on with other sets because of the pandemic. And they did the survey way before the design was ready to see if there even was interest in such a set, plus there was the ideas submission with 10k supporters, let's not forget that. (Someone beat me to this as I took way too long writing this post, whoopsie) Very true, however other than with DC, Marvel has a (mostly) pretty consistent line up of sets. The big misser probably being the Eternals sets, which are still keeping the shelves nice and warm. Marvel can do X-men because, in case it fails, they still have the other sets, Spider-man, Avengers etc., to use as a safety net. DC currently doesn't have that, a couple of Jokers and Batmans isn't enough. Lego DC just isn't that great right now. It sure used to be, and god I hope Superman will start the lego DC Renaissance. But they would probably want to take it slowly, test the water with a couple regular sets. As lego has become clearly deadly afraid of anything other than Batman for DC. And yeah, people are excited for the Superman movie. But at the same time there are still people very vocally showing critisism against the movie. People unhappy with the (re)casting, "DC fans" afraid they're trying to copy Marvel's "funny" style, Snyder fans altogether unhappy with the reboot. Half of the comments under related posts are sceptical at best. Probably a loud minority, but pair that with the baffling decisions WB has made recently and it does set the tone of the state DC currently is in. And I'm not saying Superman is an unproven property, it's way too iconic for that. Nor am I saying it definitely won't happen. But DC has fallen from grace in recent years. It needs new life breath into it, but it's way less likely that Lego jumps on board with something huge right away. Slow and steady wins the race. Personally I have a lot of hope for the franchise, and that's not just because of the logo on his chest . But only within time. On a sidenote, the Baxter building is an entirely different scenario. It's not that it's unproven, it's that the movie hasn't released yet. The entire thing with these modulars are that they are super detailed, the definitive versions of these locations. They can't do the Baxter building justice just from concept art alone (same can't be said for X-mansion as it's a continuation of the classic series, thus it has plenty of reference material), we don't even know if the one we saw in the leaked teaser is gonna be the definitive MCU version, with the multiverse going on and everything. We've never gotten the Fantastic 4 before, why now would they be in a rush to make a comic based modular for it, when the movie version, which will be the version in everyone's mind (at least to the general audience), is right around the corner? In the end, it's not about being risky, but about it being a risk they can afford. For example, speeding and risking a ticket is way more risky for a poor man than for a rich man, who can easily afford one. Sure, anything can happen, and I would love both of these sets, but I'm not getting my hopes up because X-mansion happened. To me, the circumstances are way too different to compare the two. -

Well, we must keep in mind it's an animated show, hard to compare that to live action stuff. But what makes you say 6,8% is exceptionally low? I wouldn't say that. Even as an animated show, it comes in third place for this year, 6,8% is actually really good. Especially considering the info dates from in between December 30, 2023 and May 10, 2024. And with Echo and Percy Jackson (the two who beat it) releasing at the start of that time period and X-men 97 at the end, that's a rather unfair comparison. Especially considering the season final didn't even air at that time. In reality, it had the biggest premier for any full length Marvel animated show, with the first episode getting 4 million viewers. The final being the most watched full length animated "series" final since What If season 1, with 3,5 million viewers. I wouldn't consider that "exceptionally low" in the slightest. And yeah, sure they didn't know if it was gonna be successful in advance. Would they ever know with any of the stuff they sell? But they knew the original series was well regarded. They knew the public reaction to the announcement back in 2021 was very positive. They knew fans have been asking for X-men sets for years now. I would say it was far less risky than some people would think, especially less risky than DC. And in the end, isn't well regarded by those who watched it all that matters? Those are the people who are gonna buy the merchandise after all. -

Huigberts Builds replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
There’s a big difference between trying something new for Marvel, which has been a consistently successful theme for years, and DC, which has been on live support for quite some time and can barely even get any regular sets. And like thebricksbear said, we got x-men 97, which has been a huge succes. Then there's Deadpool vs Wolverine, which has been the first X-Men related movie in the MCU and which pretty much brought back the spark into the movies after a 5 year long run of hit and miss, iconicly the same amount of time it took to fix the snap in universe. Not to mention all previous big D2C buildings were concepts already proven in lego form. The Bugle, Sanctum and Avengers Tower were all previously made sets. And the X-Mansion almost was one as well, if it weren't cancelled when lego decided to shift focus to characters that Marvel owned full rights to, or at the very least appeared in the MCU, as made obvious by the games. Now that the X-men are back with Marvel, that's not really a "restriction" anymore. Point being, these are locations Lego already proved interest in before. DC simply doesn't have that luxury, they didn't even have faith a set with the Flash characters would sell, so they replaced the figures. That's really telling. -

OzCorp is certainly iconic enough, especially if they take a page of the Amazing Spider-man man movies and let it be the location where Peter gets bitten. That being said, is it a location they should make right now? We already have 2 skyscrapers on the shelves, one of which also having a laboratory and everything. It's something that will most likely happen, but later. Midtown High is a location I can never see them making as a big modular set, maybe as the setting for a small regular set, but it's just a regular school, there's absolutely nothing iconic about it. The only thing that will set it appart from any other school will be the figures, and even then most of them will likely just be cobbled together students. -

Well tbf, both the Avengers Tower and Sanctum didn't have that many new Characters either, just a bunch of updated ones. Malibu Mansion could easily be filled with updates. Most of these Iron Man suits haven't appeared in ages, Silver Centurion being perhaps the prime example and I'm sure there are still a couple of gaps either way. A new and better Happy is one I think all of us want, Natasha could be included as a civilian. An updated Tony with the arc reactor in his chest like in the original Malibu Mansion. James Rhodes without the War Machine suit. If they are allowed to throw in characters that didn't necessarily appear in the mansion but are connected to things that happen there they could add in an updated "fake" Mandarin and Aldrich Killian. If they really want to they could even try and work in Harley if not Morgan. Sure, the latter wasn't even alive when the Mansion existed, but the Avengers Tower also got the Wasp and Wong, which have never been there either. But okay, maybe that's a bit too much of a stretch. For repeat figures they could obviously go with Nick Fury and Pepper, which they could even turn into Extremis serum Pepper if they wanted to. Not counting the suits and the kids, that's already 8 characters. Then if they include the suits that number is gonna go way up. Way more than are even likely to appear in such a set, as it would probably be in between the X-Mansion and Sanctum in terms of size, rather than the Bugle and Tower. I would also say it's iconic enough to deserve such a set, it's pretty much the key location that carried all the Iron Man movies, if not the entire MCU before it really took off with the first Avengers movie. And LEGO does like their Hall of armors, with now the 4th incarnation already on it's way. -

This is how I see them doing it. They'll probably want to put the Leaky Cauldron on 2 half baseplates or 1 big one to keep it possible to make an enclosed street display. Then one side of the street could be a bigger Madam Malkin's and the other could be Knockturn Alley but with some clever angles so that it doubles as a diagon alley shop from the front with maybe a facade of random shops. They could even put Borgin and Burkes on a hinge like the Ollivanders staircase, so that when displayed next to WWW you can fold it out and it would align with the Knockturn Alley entrance if desired (I doubt anyone has the space to display it like that, but it's nice to have options) -

It kinda strips them from their individuality imo, it doesn't really suit their personalities too well, only one I don't mind getting a Morrison variant for is Wolverine, just to get some variation. But hey, maybe the show manages to pull it off. -

I think the next D2C going off-world would have a high possibility, Asgard especially sounds like a strong option, it would be really nice to display this year's Surtur there. On a sidenote, and this question has probably been asked before, so I'm sorry for asking again, but is it still possible for there to be a GWP for the Mansion? Or would we have known about that by now? -

It's quite ironic though, considering how heavily Deadpool was featured in the original Marvel Superheroes game and now they avoid him like the plaque. Although I'm sure he'll pop up again eventually when he starts appearing in the more child friendly Marvel stuff. Plus they've given us (or rather a handfull of lucky people) Duckpool and Sheriff Deadpool after the first and second movie dropped respectively. So I'm sure he's not completely out of Lego's mind yet. -

It already appeared in the accessory pack with Mr Borgin. It's interesting though, as more than likely they will also be giving the forbidden forest polybag away again, meaning our gifts this year will be both Lucius and Draco, quite fitting. -

The gwp looks oké imo. Nothing too special, which is fine. Although I wish they just gave us Borgin and Burkes as an actual set for once instead of drip feeding us bits and pieces every few years. I do think it's interesting how it has about the same shape and size as the 2012 one, just without an exterior. -

I guess so, although star wars also only has about 2 or so every year since the very start of those things, so I think, if anything, Harry Potter is the outlier. Ofcourse that might indeed come down to licensed fees, although part of me also thinks it's because Harry Potter was gonna get christmas themed sets regardless of whether the advent calendars were a thing or not, since the regular sets go over pretty much any scene, so they might as well turn them into advent calendars instead and share some of that budget. Idk -

They could do it like Gringotts did. And wouldn't the lego Ninjago Modulars be kinda expansions to the original? They're just able to stand on their own quite well. -

I also have the feeling Harry Potter advent calendars get a way higher budget than regular ones. 10 unique printed pieces opposite to just around 3 in the Marvel one. Maybe they're treating them like normal sets? As Harry Potter already has a natural connection to christmas. -
I really don't like 3 out of 4 of these sets. The only one that looks somewhat interesting is Emerald City, reminds me a bit of 41232. Probably gonna buy it just so I can display my minifigures. The green tophat is also pretty nice for a purist Mad Hatter. Other than that, easy pass.
