Thanks, Steering problem: Whilst shooting a test video it became apparrent it was difficult to steer my Wacky Wheel machine and take a video at the same time. Due to the tricycle wheel arrangement it can be awkward to steer especially when at full speed. Speed can be preset using a 8879 PF speed controller but steering with its 7 steps is difficult to master and un-responsive if you turn dial the too quickly. The 8879 PF Speed controller is great for speed control with push button for stop but not for steering. The 8885 PF basic controller is good for steering but for only allows for full speed in either directions plus stop. Solution: As most manoeuvres only need full lock for steering I decided to use two PF remotes 1 x 8879 for speed control & 1 x 8885 for steering with two receivers set to different channels. Later whilst browsing Sariels Guide book I discovered this is exactly what he recommends. Just needs slight re-arrangement behind driver to locate both PF Rx plus guard dog is now elevated to a higher position and able to reach his food !

Agree but they were the only large tires I had at the time. -

It was based on an articulated shovel loader which had a compact gearbox with all motors in the rear section. Not sure if it was a lego model or somebodies MOC. It used a white 24T gear modified to a 24T clutch gear. It was quite a squeeze routing all the drives to the L.A.s inc. the grab. Heres an image of it. -

Its looking very good, looking forward to seeing it in action. I tried to build something similar a few years back using L.A.s for all functions but became too complicated and gave up. -
Re Video: Does the video have only to appear in the entry topic or is it allowed in the discussion topic prior to summiting the entry topic ?

This works and fits within a 5 x 7 frame. Right hand grey clutch gear does not have teeth. Opps a yellow half bush missing from left hand side in exploded image ! There should be a plain half bush (yellow) between 2L axle joiner & half bush with teeth as shown in top assembled unit. 2L red axle not used and there is no free play with this arrangment.

After completing my TC12 entry my work space was in complete disaray with loose parts in all manner of containers. Time to have a major sort out and re-organise my spare parts. Drawer units are from Aldi, Lidl & B&M. Empty 1ltr. ice cream containers used for beams. panels, connectors etc and empty food containers for studded & small parts etc. Trays contain commenly used pins & axles. TC12 Videos
doug72 replied to doug72's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Don't have a tripod. Note the camera is out of position, it needs shifting sideways a bit otherwise lens will not come out when switched on. I wanted something to be able to walk around and at same time operate the PF speed controller but found I needed to shoot close to the ground to get close ups which proved ackward. In the end I use an iPad with controller mounted on top of a chair so I could follow my TC12 vehicle around easier & still control it. -
In order to take a video of my TC12 entry I found it hard to hold compact camera & remote speed controller at the same time to demonstrate my entry running & the functions. I devised a holder for camera & speed contoller which helps, but need to get down low to use it. Aslo tried an iPad in video mode with speed controller mounted on top of a chair back - works OK and I can move around with iPad while taking the video and see be able to control my TC12 entry. iPad seems best solution.

Jim, Milan. Re Video: I will be using a compact hand held camera to video. Is it OK to make two short videos to record the various functions and another to show it it motion & steering. I want to demonstrate the various functions in close to show them working. Its proving difficult to control vehicle and film at the same time & my wife is not a good lego driver ! I don't know how to combine the two videos into one.
