  1. That's a link to a Hero Factory review. I see nothing about pirates there. Edit: You must have been trying to link to something like this: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10514-1 Okay then. Duplo Pirates. Yeah.
  2. I agree. I drew the line at the British olympic figs. A super rare gold fig isn't going to happen for me, and I don't need it.
  3. Parents' attic. On a past inquiry, I was told it might have been given away to younger cousins, but that was not the case.[quote name='legotrainfan' Thanks!
  4. Even here in the USA, we never got the polybag featuring the dragon knight with his cart, not in wide release anyway. I remember because I went looking for it as a new FOL, trying to get all Kingdoms sets. I think that one only showed up in Germany, and resellers wanted like $15+ USD for it, even when it was "current". (Not worth it!) And +1 about no more impulse sets. Nowadays they just do polybags and then the next size up is the small or army builder sort of sets with at least 2 minifigs and more than 40 bricks or so. Well there's also small promo polybags. But gone are the days of the tiny boxed impulse set with just one fig and a weapon rack.
  5. They need to be cleaned. There's a very strong smell of moth balls on them. I think what I'll do is clean them by hand and have a hair dryer going at the same time to dry them off.
  6. Pirate Lego drying. I hand washed the printed and delicate stuff today before the Super Bowl. It's all in really great condition, except for a couple of the smaller flags have broken clips. :( At least the minifigs are in great shape. 7. That's totally it, thanks. I also have other parts to that conveyor belt assembly. And here I was starting to believe that all Lego elements had markings on them of some sort. Clearly that's not the case, at least with some older parts like that. I think I have all those pieces, except for maybe 637. I'll probably find it yet. Thanks Aanchir. The tires aren't Lego. They say something weird (I would have to check again to remember what exactly, but it's some sort of off brand).
  8. Is any of this stuff Lego? The black fence in the back is for reference. I'm fairly sure the wheels are not because they say something strange. The other parts are odd and I can't find any markings on them, but almost look high enough quality to be Lego. The gray thing in the middle is not ABS, but a flexible rubbery material. The gray propeller might be real too, but I also couldn't find any markings. This is all stuff that could be from the mid 1970s into '80s or early 90s. Thanks in advance. DSC_0010 by ZeyaV, on Flickr
  9. In the past week, I've been spending time cleaning and sorting. I've got a load of all my Pirate stuff going in the dishwasher right now. I have to run them through twice or more since they're so stinky from moth balls. You should smell the steam coming out of the dishwasher, but at least it makes me happy it's coming off the bricks. I took some more photos to share. Here's my Lego desk after getting done sorting all the Basic bricks. So many red/blue/yellow 2xX bricks. I just want to point out this took very long to sort. At one point I lost track of time and thought it was 3 hours earlier. Anyone else ever experience that? DSC_0001 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Here are the printed and special material bricks from the batch of Basic stuff. Nothing too fancy. DSC_0006 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Here are the trans-clear and tiles from that first batch. Some of the clear ones are so yellowed: DSC_0007 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Another shot for no real reason: DSC_0008 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And here is a big bowl of wheel axles. Why are there so many? Did someone buy some special axle battle pack? Lol. Note the two yellow parts - both are spring loaded. One is a claw and the other is like a fork lift front. I have to figure out how to wash all this because it has metal and I don't know if it will rust or what. Suggestions? No real wear on the minifig heads or torsos, and the chrome gold coins aren't too worn either. Over the next week I'll be drying, sorting and maybe one day soon even building! After tonight, what's left to process and wash will be all the Castle (about 6 gallon ziplocs) and one gallon ziploc of Blacktron and hopefully some more classic space remnants in there too.
  10. The one thing that's grabbing my attention here is that this wave seems to have a higher "minifig to part count ratio" than Kingdoms had. Or at least it has more side perks like the dog and dragon. The dragon tower has 5 minifigs (and that dragon). The cart ambush one has 4 minifigs (and a dog!). The guard tower one has 4. The carriage one only has two (and a horse). And the big castle set has 7, if I'm counting right. That's a lot of minifigs, right? The dragon tower set and the smaller one with 4 minifigs are the two that really speak to me so far. Gotta get that princess/wizard/dragon, and a small set with 4 minifigs is just too good to pass up. Those catalog shots give a better view of the bad guys' shields. It's definitely a dragon head with a bit of flame coming out of his mouth at the narrow end. Someone probably already pointed that out though. The one thing I don't get is that dragon. It's so huge. It makes me think of the short lived Dino theme from last spring. He'll probably come to grow on me. Ahh, I can tell I'm going to buy this entire line already. Well maybe this time around I'll actually wait for some discounts and sales. I'm just a sucker for minifigs with swords, is basically what it boils down to. Lol. Any sort of knight, pirate, or swashbuckler of any kind and I'm all in. <- Perfect emoticon!
  11. Some observations: - On the carriage door, there is a 1x1 round tile in pearl gold with a lock printing on it. That looks so cool. Also one on a door in that dragon set. - Horse helmet looks new. Didn't they say the new horse design won't mesh with the old horse helmets? - Flags on castle look like that plastic material, not cloth. Not sure though. - King's sword looks like pearl gold. No more shiny chrome, sad. - Set with dragon has chrome treasure in the tresure chest. Hopefully ships that way. - Castle corner pieces have stickers - Evil wizard has printing on his hat brim Does anyone know what set has the princess? I don't see her in the big castle set. Maybe she's in that tower with the dragon (blocked from view)? I like what I'm seeing for the most part. I personally might be cutting down on purchases this year and may not get them all. I would have preferred a different color scheme, and could live without a dragon (or a smaller one). But I'm feeling that Lego charm coming through here, and that's what's really important when it comes to Castle. I had thought Castle was dead for the duration of LotR, and I'm glad to be wrong on that account! That sums up how I feel, too. That's not true about the CMF elf. There was a forestman in CMF series 1: I'll gladly take "homage" figs like him and the Kingdoms Joust falcon knight, if TLG isn't willing to make a full-blown faction redux for us.
  12. I did some more washing last night. I discovered the torsos and legs of those old style non-articulating minifigs. Also some other cool parts. One is another spring-loaded contraption that looks like the front of a forklift. Probably from the same era as the spring-loaded crane claw I found. I also found some space minifigs, but their torsos are very faded. I found one red one where the print is all but gone. :( I had to look up what you were talking about. 6255 is a comic that came with two minifigs and a couple of accessories. But looking on Bricklink, those figs came in sets too, so they're not unique. I think the ones you see are from regular sets I had/have.
  13. It'll be interesting to see if the Seaplane stuff is still there, particularly the non-articulating minifigs shown on the cover. I have already found one blank minifig head and little white hat, and I suspect those go with that set. Of course, the really interesting elements are the torsos and legs of those old style figs. Hopefully those will turn up for me. Yeah the sails are all kind of nasty and folded, especially the Caribbean Clipper and the ones form the Imperial Trading Port. (Forgive me, I'm bad with the set numbers. Even had to google the ones you quoted!) I'll have to look up again the best method to clean and flatten sails. Relatedly, I've found some string too. Some is from Pirates for sails and cranes, and another was from a big yellow claw thing that must be from one of the Basic sets. I had to clip off and throw that one out (all tangled and frayed), which I even felt bad about. I'm so neurotic about even throwing out old nasty string. Probably wasn't even the original string anyway, and I felt bad. Lol. The book is pretty cool! It'll be a kick leafing through it and drooling over all the classics. I suppose I could keep updates here if the mods/admins don't mind. Starting now. :) A couple nights ago, I did a trial run at cleaning a batch of the primary colored 2x4,2x2 etc bricks. I figured if they got mangled, oh well. At any rate I felt fairly confident they would come out fine, and sure enough, they did. And then last night I went to town on a bunch more, basically cleaning all of the primary colored stuff that is probably most of the Basic and miscellaneous stuff (i.e. not Pirates or Castle or Space). Basically I've been setting aside certain special stuff (with prints or any special material that isn't ABS, also certain transparent stuff) and I wash that all by hand, and everything else I put into thin mesh bags and put through the dishwasher (no heated dry, no "extra hot", etc). I'm still waiting for most of that to dry. It was amazing how some of the stuff came clean, especially the trans-clear bricks, like 2x4 and 2x2x1 slopes. But interesting stuff I found so far? Nothing really earth shattering. About 4-5 minifigs without any torso prints, although the one blank head I mentioned earlier. A bunch of 2x2 yellow bricks with the eye on the side, 1x2 bricks with a face like 2 black dots for eyes and a bigger red dot like a mouth. A trans-yellow plate from one of the space sets (8x8 I think, didn't count). Those two white slopes with the classic space logo. Older style windows. 3-4 pine trees and 2 fruit trees. There was also this spring-loaded claw on that string and on the other end a crank. That was interesting because it has metal parts! I have to clean that specially... So I guess I'll let that all dry and start sorting it. Anyway that's where I'm at.
  14. For sure! I can't wait to get to it and start going through everything. I really have my mom to thank. She kept essentially all of our childhood toys binned up "in the attic" (more like a crawl space by the stairs). No light exposure and good enough heating/cooling. Of course my parents fronted the Lego premium for all this brick, too - yikes. I am kind of overwhelmed at how much was there. It's a medium sized "rubbermaid" bin, but that's a lot to me. I also don't remember having so many sets. Funny how my memory is different from what is actually there.
  15. I have one baseplate on the far right of this image that is a mystery. It looks older, probably 1970s. What is it from? DSC_0042 by ZeyaV, on Flickr
  16. I've been cross-posting all over the place today. :) I re-obtained by childhood Lego collection and made a thread about it. Check it out over here: http://www.eurobrick...6 This is definitely the luckiest find I've ever had. At one point, I thought it had all been lost or given away to younger cousins/nephews/nieces. Edit: Oops, this is buy/sell/trade. This was more of a "found in the attic" sort of thing.
  17. (This may not be the best thread for this post. Over in Pirates and Castle, there's a "share your latest acquisition" thread, but I couldn't find one for space. Feel free to move this post somewhere better, with my apologies...) Please go take a look here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=78876entry1502970 I got my childhood Lego collection back, and there's a bunch of Space stuff in there. I'm so stoked to piece it all back together. Based on the instructions I re-discovered, here are the sets I probably have (just of Space): Classic From 1980 6861 - X1 Patrol Craft From 1981 6801 - Moon Buggy 6822 - Space Digger 6842 - Small Spce Shuttle Craft 6870 - Space Probe Launcher 6927 - All-Terrain Vehicle From 1982 6880 - Surface Explorer From 1983 6823 - Surface Transport M-Tron - From 1990 6877 - Vector Detector Blacktron 2 - From 1991 6981 - Aerial Intruder What do you guys think? I'm going to part them together, and I was thinking I could maybe also take some photos and write reviews for them, if that would be welcome.

  19. Please go take a look here: http://www.eurobrick...6 I got my childhood Lego collection back, and there's a bunch of Pirate stuff in there. I'm so stoked to piece it all back together. 20. I recently got my old childhood collection back. I unboxed it yesterday and took some photos to share, if anybody is interested. If you have any advice or comments, feel free to post here. I have yet to sift through pieces. Everything seems to be packed up into these Ziploc bags and sorted surprisingly well. I think my mother must have done this. I have to say, it's so strange because my memories of my Lego collection are different from what is actually here. I remember us having repurposed paint buckets for our toys and the Lego was just kind of jumbled up in there, but what I unboxed here... it almost seems to be sorted by set, or at least theme. Who sorted this? I don't want to ramble on too long and bore you all, though. Anyway on with the photos. Here is a shot of everything together as it came out of the bin. Don't squint too hard, because I have other better photos with things grouped. DSC_0044 by ZeyaV, on Flickr I must admit, I had feared the worst. I was expecting everything to be a hopeless jumble, scratched up, abused. But I think we were pretty tame kids and my mom made sure we took care of our things. Rarely would we leave toys out overnight, and it would all go back in the bucket for storage. Sure, there are a couple plates and things here and there that are snapped. But by and large, this is in pretty good condition. Of particular note are the instructions. I would have bet these were long gone! I'm going to have to go through this over time, but these instructions are in good shape. A couple of the ones from way back that we inherited from our cousins are a little torn, but still usable. Again, don't squint too much/long at this photo, but here are all the instructions together in one shot: DSC_0030 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And here are the instructions laid out by theme. Pirates! My favorite theme, especially as an adult. DSC_0033 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And castle! Wow. There's quite a few large sets here. These were some really nice Christmas presents. I remember my big Christmas present at the bottom of my stack was almost always a big Lego set. Well one year it was an Erector set. DSC_0037 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Space! I'm fairly sure the classic space sets were my older cousin's, originally. I definitely remember the parts, such as the technic pieces that make a bendy thing and the brackets with side-facing studs, and the little rocket-like things that face down (usually used as missile cannons or something, hehe). The couple of Blacktron sets were mine though. DSC_0039 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And here are the other instructions for what Brickset terms "Basic", "Legoland", a Town racer set, and a McDonald's promo thing. Also 3 advertisement inserts that probably came from some of these sets. DSC_0041 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And two random Technic sets. DSC_0032 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And last item for the paper goods, the Lego Idea book. Inside, I found a sticker sheet, and one pristine sail from a Castle set. I think I got this when I was getting on the older side, maybe 12 years old, and I don't think I used this book too much. Hardcore video game phase. Spoiled brat. :/ DSC_0010 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0011 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Anyone know if those stickers came with the book? Edit: L@go confirmed that these stickers are in fact from the idea book. Okay, on to the gratuitous shots of bricks and elements. Keep in mind I'm just sharing photos at this point for anyone interested. I also want to say, this is going to be a long project for me to get these all washed and parted together. I'm thinking that 2013 and into 2014 are going to be light on the Lego purchasing for me. First up, here are all the baseplates (except maybe some very small ones): DSC_0042 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Those are 48x48 light gray baseplates. Do those even get made anymore? They're huge! Also, I'm not sure what the broken plate is on the far right, but it's got to be older, probably from my cousins. I have a dim recollection of snapping it in two as a kid. Lessons learned. On to bags of mostly Pirate stuff: DSC_0013 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0014 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0015 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0016 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0017 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0018 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And now onto Castle, which probably makes up 1/3 of all the bricks. So much gray. DSC_0019 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0020 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0021 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0022 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0023 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0024 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0025 by ZeyaV, on Flickr This is some of that Blacktron and other space stuff: DSC_0027 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And onto some more miscellaneous bags. This is mostly that Basic theme stuff, and I'm hoping the classic space is mixed in there too. DSC_0026 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0027 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0028 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0029 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And that's all the photos I took. Like I said, I have my work cut out for me. My mom liked to use moth balls, and that stuff stinks pretty bad. It's all going to have to get washed. I know there's a thread here somewhere on how to clean Lego, which I'll read up on again. I plan to wash everything (gonna have to be a dishwasher or clothes washer), and then try and put together every set. I figure some of the really old ones like the Sea Plane and Classic Space sets might be lacking some parts, for which I might turn to Bricklink if it's not too painful. I might also try my hand at writing some reviews for these sets, if that would be welcome. But overall, I'm pretty excited. It's going to be a lot of work, but it should be fun. So what do you guys think? Please share any advice or thoughts.
  21. That pretty much sums it up. By the way, there are to be only 5000 gold figures worldwide, so that's got to be way less than one per box.
  22. Does anyone have a method of turning certain parts of the bricklink message boards into an RSS feed? I'm particularly interested in an RSS feed of sales or coupon postings.
  23. The internet code tracking thing is a nice idea, but it's almost guaranteed that not all 5000 will be entered. Which is kind of sneaky when you think about it, because it will lead people to believe that some are still out there, when maybe they aren't, and drive them to buy. And then years later, people will still be asking "hey, whatever happened to those 600 golden minifigs that aren't accounted for?" To which someone will in reply make a clever MOC about golden minifigs living off the grid on a farm somewhere. :) Five thousand is exceedingly rare. If I happen to get one, great. But I'm not paying $400 for a minifig. The bloom was off the rose for me with the olympic minifigs anyway. And besides... it's stressful enough just trying to get all 16 of each series like I do anyway. On the plus side, this will be fun to spectate.
  24. It's guaranteed. The information is coming from TLG via a toy expo. There's still just spotty information on the exact details (what it is exactly, how many per box(es) etc.)
