  1. Well, it deserves a chance.. -better than just full throttle on the servo.. Alternatively a wormgear turning a 24 gear, opening the valve....
  2. Brilliant idea! thx never tried it, but seem to be a safe bet! Really think that modding that Arocs with pneumatic opening bed will make it the best lego set ever! +remote operated drive+steer :)
  3. My bet is also that Pneumatics can lift the heavier load.. i'm planning on modding the Arocs, exchanging the LA with 2xPneu. cylinders for the bed. I made a tipper bed on my 8110 with 4 cylinders, 2 on each side, in two separate compressor circuits - 2 large compressor cylinders, 2 valves and all.. The bed easily lifts 1 kg of payload, however, this truck doesn't have the space for 4 cylinders, only two (in the middle) -never saw a hose pop off the inlet, but experienced plenty of LA clutch-grinding when load became too heavy... -But what about remote controlling the valve?? not an option to slowly, gradually open the valve.. Anyone tried to remote control a valve using the servo motor??
  4. What Can lift the heaviest load for tipping the bed, two pneumatic cylinders, or two LAs with XL motor? (Guessing the clutch in LA is the weakest point)
  5. I never got that 5580... :( got the 5590, though, but I always wanted that big truck..
  6. Nice spotted you 2 ! :D I used to be a tank commander, my gunner took this picture through the thermal scope.. Leopard 2 ;) when I created my profile the other day, It automatically took a profile pic from my army days... :) once again, Nice spotted! :)
  7. Someone ought to make statistics on this - you are dead right! so much feedback from AFOLs all saying the same :) heres mine btw: 1: 8110 Unimog - incredible platform to motorize and build extra machinery on. 2: 8043 Excavator (Ultimate) - great fun and lots of parts 3: 42030 Volvo loader (retrofitted w/mini LAs for steering) Hours of fun and plenty of power ! still to put a gearbox where the motor is 4: 8258 Crane truck. I never actually got the set, but bought the parts on BL, converted it into a dump truck. Well build and endless possibilities 5: 42009 Mobile crane (Ultimate) awesome set with soo many functions.. actually not all that playable... My Runners up: 8455 Back hoe - The reason I took up lego as an adult in 2003 ! 8275 Bulldozer - with these parts I can build ANYTHING! :) 8421 mobile crane - parts 9398 Rock crawler - Why didn't anyone else mention this? I got a couple for parts. 8880 supercar.. My first flagship...
  8. Hey, I also used Sariel's heavy duty gearbox! , worked very well (2 XL motors) , it even destroyed the gears and shot out the hub axles under pressure i 1st gear! -So I replaced the gearbox with direct drive and put in an onboard winch and 2 large compressors to lift the bed with 4 pneumatic cylinders :) now its: -drive -steer -compressor/winch -open/close switch for bed Is there not a tread on making the awesome 8110 utimate ???
  9. Well, if it Walks&talks as a arocs w/ 4 axles and overall features and looks, i'm not so concerned.. Think it's Fun to have a toy that are designed to look Like something irl.. Like the unimog! I have motorized that thing beyond reciognition, but it still look Like the Real thing.. :)
  10. Come on.. So Many new parts, pneumatic and all, and you are concerned about two cylindres?! I'm placing a motor there anyways!
  11. Should be possible to copy the outriggers from the 8455 and put them between axle 1 & 2 like the real thing. Best working outriggers ever! :)
  12. Great model.. Can't wait to load it with my Volvo!
  13. Would be great with a valve that didn't work either or... That would stop halfway Like the LA or a real hydraulic actuator... -would make steering of cranearm much more precise...
  14. Yes, probably LAs.. thats okay as long they will open with whatever load I put in with my Volvo loader :) 4 valves, yes. Looks as if the boom extender is also Pnm... it gives fit the number of hoses on the upper boom.
  15. Looks very interesting! Blue, tracked, knuckle crane... Isn't 2015 just the best Lego year ever?! :) But I only buy 1 set this year, and this aint it.. :)
  16. Nice to see other old "newbies" here.. I love cranes, and this is looking very interesting.. can't wait for more pictures :)
  17. HI I came out of the closet today too.. :) -Been playing with LEGO for 5 yrs now, after a break of 20 yrs.. Nice comeback, building that pick up!
  18. HELLO good folks @ Eurobricks :) Been sniffing around in here for years.... But THIS incredible set, and reading your excellent comments really inspired med to sign up :) I simply LOVE it for its looks, playability, and can't wait to motorize the hell out of it ! :) -Really love that ground clerance on the first two axles, right?! :) but the most ever fantastic thing IMO, the one thing that makes every other discussion about looks etc redundant, is the new, long Pneumatic cylinders... How many hours have I not pulled my hair out, calculating geometry of liftarms on loaders, eventually giving up because the load ability ended up too low etc... I love Pneumatics, and hope to see 2 long cylinders opening up that flatbed :D :D Anyone know what opens the bed ?? this truck is a better set, than I ever dreamed of it could be.. And it is not even yellow... :=) -The crane looks a bit overscaled on the truck, that's the price of being in possession of big tools ;-) Have a nice day! Henrik
