  1. I suppose that's also why Tahu has those pins in the back of his legs. Seems to be a design trend from now on.
  2. No idea. Personally I'd like if we got some droids, but that's a little unlikely.
  3. The rock textures on this are fabulous! Love all of it.
  4. It sort of depends on how you look at it. Yes, Master's Onua mask was small, but for some reason whenever I displayed Onua by himself his small mask actually made him look bigger. I suppose his small head gave off the appearance of is body being bigger. Sadly it only works by himself, putting him next to another Toa breaks the illusion. I still want a Titan Onua someday I think the biggest difference for me is not their height but rather their look. Master Onua is very tanky while his Uniter form is a little lanky. In the end they are both clearly the muscle of their team. Agreed. He still pulls of the wastelander vibe, just in a different way. I think they wanted all trans arms to help the crystal look, but the the smooth shells don't really work that well. Now if only the new SW cloth wrap came in Dark Tan or Reddish Brown, that would have really been something..
  5. I can agree that the torso makes him look distinct from his predecessor, but compared to the rest of the Uniters? Who all use the same torso? Not really. The wide shoulders help but they look rather gappy from the front and can only do so much. Maybe, the Bohrok eyes mostly help the little gaps from the side so I'm not sure how much it would help. I'm thinking of adding some black 3-length shells to the glatorian necks. Another thing I just noticed after reviewing the pictures is that Onua (and I'm guessing the rest of the Toa) look very flat from the side. Most likely to make room for the combo.
  6. My thoughts exactly. On his own Uniter Onua looks great, but when he's put next to his Master version... they look more like brothers than an evolution. '15 had a little too much bulk, and now '16 has too little. I'll still be getting him because I love Onua, he has good recolors, and I feel the need to fix his flaws. The gear being molded in is also a con for me, unlike the gearbox of this year it won't be possible to use that mechanism for a smaller set. In place of what exactly? The whole shoulder area needs a little more to cover it.
  7. Well Gali gets cannons, Tahu and Lewa get wings, so I'd say at least half the creatures improve the playability of the set. As far as his colors go, maybe. The build and texture problems would still be there. Overall I think he would have looked better, but not enough to save him I think. Very true. In fact I think my priority is more on collecting the creatures instead of the Toa. Yes, even Ketar and Melum. All of them are great in their own right. Edit: BZP's Onua review is up: http://www.bzpower.c...ory.php?ID=8164 Onua was and still is my favorite of the larger Toa. He's a little skinny and flat (but which Toa isn't?) for my tastes but I'm sure its nothing a little modding can't fix. The hammer/drill and Terak combo look better than I originally thought. He was already a buy from me when I first saw him, and he lives up to my expectations. Can't wait to mod him into a truly ultimate Onua.
  8. I don't see why they would ask the review to be postponed. It has no effect on the release date of the sets.
  9. Good question. I suppose they are don't pop off the mask as easily, but they also look like they have the same lighting problem as before. I thought with the ends of the mask being translucent it would allow for better light-piping, but it doesn't look like that's the case.
  10. The Skull Cloth addon (and Tahu) looks so much better when combined. Ikir's wings and tail feathers really help the jagged, fiery look. Now it's the piston addon and Technic shell that bother me.
  11. Thanks DV! Can't wait to see your review. I'm happy to hear that the swivel function has good friction and is removable. Tahu's texture problem was expected, along with his lanky-ness. Just a little request, could you take pictures of how the unity piece (Technic shell) looks with various addons? Really interested in seeing how that looks.
  12. First up I want to thank you for this review. I've heard the name Galidor around usually as a punchline, but I never actually researched them. Thanks to you I now know how truly un-LEGO and sometimes hideous these guys were. You've piqued my curiosity for this theme. I totally understand your comparison to the Heromashers. My brother had asked for the SW Darth Vader figure for his birthday. His friend got him the next best thing, a Heromasher Darth Vader. Needless to say he was disappointed.
  13. Gonna be honest, I had a little laugh. I don't blame you for not knowing, I don't think I would have guessed myself. Remind me to go over to the suggestion topic and request for a designer tag. Anyway I'm a little happy and a little disapointed. Happy because I won't have to worry about applying stickers wrong, sad because I can't use those designs on different bricks. Nice to see you back Nabii. With official pics being released and all can you share some design info? I'm particularly interested in how the Chaos Chariot and Mech Horse were developed, but really anything about sets or figures would be great to hear about.
  14. Suppose so. I'm a little tired of gold at this point, so it won't really matter to me. If anything I'd pick him up for his mask and bones. The golden skull armor addon baffles me. That piece would look better if it was used on someone else and given a cloth color like black or some shade of brown. His cyrstal addon is close to being the best, so I might grab them off Bricklink. I'm not sure if I'll combine the 2015 and 16 Toa together, but I do know heavy mods are in my Uniter's future.
  15. Hmmm. It was more of a steady degression rather than a downfall. Some years and their individual sets had their highs and lows. In my opinion the degression started in 2005 with the Hordika. The rate stayed about the same in 2006, rose in 2007, and jumped to the lowest in 2008 (In terms of figures, the vehicles were great). 2009 was on par with 2007 in that they both used the Ignika build creativly. 2010 with the STARS is the lowest but I don't really count it because the other option would have been no wave at all. In terms of what was my least favorite wave figure wise it would be 2008. But the Barraki from 2007 started a big texture inconsistenty problem that would continue till the end. As DraikNova said, the texture issue was accompanied by improvments in articulation. In retrospect the Metru got the ball rolling with useless pistons, and it just steadily got bigger as the years went by. You know I never really noticed that. Bionicle heroes and Villians grew pretty large over the years. I suppose it's because CCBS used a standard torso bone while Bionicle made a new torso every year until 2006 (and then you had 2008).
  16. Like yourself I don't regard it as perfect. Compared to the previous system I think it's a step up, but nothing's perfect. The lack of connection points is a flaw for me as well, but I don't think the system needs to change to fix it. Rather I think we just need shells and addons with more attachment points. Preferably more on sides and one more on top. However I don't want these to replace the current shells, but be used alongside them. The reason is because I don't want to get a similar problem of the old system where the many connection points left limbs looking hollow.
  17. Those shovels are beautiful. Really it's a shame to see that Onua was the only one use them so far. They're detailed, but they have so many uses. I agree about the Toa's weapons though, just because you can use a part on everything doesn't mean you should. New weapon molds? Only in moderation. I would have liked if the Uniters used more unique weapons. The only Toa who doesn't use the blade is Onua, and his weapon in my opinion is great at showing that not every weapon has to be a unique mold, but even one made of common parts.
  18. Specialized molds from Bionicle have left me with tubs of parts that I use once in a blue moon. Some I don't even touch. The more specialized, the less chance I can use them. In contrast I still use CCBS parts from their debut. Their versatility is amazing, and they have much more colors that Bionicle rarely used. In my opinion I'm more impressed when LEGO and MOCers find a way to use parts in a new way than their purpose. A good example from this year would be Ekimu's Sheild. The use of a princess wheel cover as an ornate design was genius. I view constantly making specialized molds for everything a cheap way out of designing a solution. The versatility and value of a part depends on how specialized it is, how many colors it is in, and how useful it is. Most of Bionicle's unique molds fail in colors and usefulness, as most of their unique pieces have limited use and were often in a limited color range. Standard CCBS parts have infinite use thanks to their low specialization and come in a wide range of colors. The addons vary along the scale as their colors and soecialization vary from part to part. Overall I value recolors almost as much as I would new parts, as recolors increase versitility. It took me a while to warm up to CCBS, but now I enjoy it more than I did the old system.
  19. Yeah, not really a fan of the new Kopaka myself. As the cyrstal part, I like to think of it as a transitional piece. Mechanical to Organic. However I'm not a fan of the placement. I won't know until I get a set, but I think it might look better if the cyrstal part was put on the Technic shell rather than being near it. It might fix the detail balance and hopefully improve the look of his shins. Speaking of the Techinc shell, I wonder how well it would look like with other addons attached on it?
  20. Nice little MOC here. As others have said it needs a little orange. I would really like to see how it would look like if you attached teeth to that chainsaw to give it a little flair.
  21. Seeing the Fortrex at this angle has finally convinced me to get it. At first I was a little disappointed about the base mode, but now I can see how much it resembles a castle gate. Really like how well it was executed.
  22. I don't think I can add much more to the whole texture and aesthetic conversation, so I won't even try. I pretty agree with Lychir and especially dviddy. These new sets don't mix simplicity with detail as well as this year's. It was actually kind of funny that while I was reading his comment I looked at my old Exo-Toa across the room and really started to examine it. I never noticed before how well that set mixes shapes, styles, and textures. While I do think the 2016 is a step backward in that department, I am happy with the new parts and builds. Can't wait to try my own stuff when I get my hands on them.
  23. I think the face tiles will be a little tough to use, but I've got a few ideas: Icons, Mech Pilots, Art (like painted detail, bumper stickers, pin-up, signs, emblems, etc.), Worthless Merchandise with Faces on them, Coat Buttons, Belt Buckles, Bottle Caps, those little Face Balls they put on car antenna, and minifig scale Toys. Most of these ideas I don't think I'll do myself. I don't really buy Ninjago. But if somehow I had been given a face tile I would probably take the Space Marine armor (the one with the stud in the center) and make a mech minifigure.
  24. I wouldn't call them a misstep, more like a side step. They do a lot of great choices with the build but some aspects of the design don't work well. I'm anxious for reviews as well. Right now only the smaller Toa and their respective creatures interest me. The texture choices this year are great on the smaller Toa, but their larger teammates (Except Onua, who is much more moderate) use clustered detailed parts with no clear direction or purpose. I hate to put them on a pedestal, but Tahu and Kopaka are pretty good examples of what not to do. I like detail when it's used moderately. It draws attention to the design and causes you to really appreciate it. When everything's yelling for your attention it becomes saturated and completely defeats it's design purpose. Piston detail is especially hard to pull off because it demands that the part looks like it has some sort of movement. I know pistons are the staple aesthetic for BIONICLE, but there are other mecahaical details like wires, pipe, motor joints, and vents. Still haven't had many of those yet.
  25. Toys R Us has added the Fortrex and Chaos Chariot to their online shop. They are not available for pre order yet, but you can get a notification when they're available. http://t.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=71323986&eESource=CA_DF:71323986:TRUS http://t.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=71323876&eESource=CA_DF:71323876:TRUS
