[Software] LDD2PovRay
Lego Otaku replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Open POV-Ray, click on Tools menu, click on edit master POVRAY.INI and look for Library_Path="\\.\LDDIncludes" If you don't see it, go to the bottom, copy and paste Library_Path="\\.\LDDIncludes" on the bottom, save and quit POV-Ray and try again. If it still doesn't work, something between POV-Ray and LDD2POV got broken, maybe you re-installed something? -
It may be for AFOL but I don't think there are hard 18+ rule for new members to sign up. So we may have TFOL here looking at plastic porn.

[MOC] Modular style hardware store in progress
Lego Otaku replied to Lego Otaku's topic in LEGO Town
Dark red 1x4 sucks. 370 I need is going to be $200 alone not counting shipping. Most 3000-pieces set is about $300 from LEGO so I am overpaying for my own moc LEGO PAB online doesn't have any dark red 1x4, even though they do have dark red 1x2 and 1x6; and Bricklink is averaging over 50 cents each used, over 60 new. I'm guessing LEGO needs a lot of dark red 1x4 for something currently. Since it's not on LEGO online, it's a safe assumption local PAB won't have them either. Going to replace as many of the 1x4 I have in with 1x6. -
Hopefully it will. There are many possibilities for this 1x3 jumper plate

LEGO in Film & TV: Index of Appearances
Lego Otaku replied to Izzy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have seen some official sets on LEGO Movie, both in the fantasy LEGO world and in the real world. But it's around 99% original creations, excluding LEGO Movie sets released for the movie. -
That should be posted in SW Funnies thread. Quite a few interesting captions for that picture but Emperor's New Clothes seemed best to me. I figured the hands but I can't figure out that piece between the maxi-figure's hands. It looks like 1x2 plate with hooked bar. Definitely risque for this forum.

That would be perfect if it was real.

It's only a rumor at this point. Some stores already got rid of 2011 MF on clearance sale as low as $90 but many still remain on shelves at full price. It is really a nice one and perhaps the best non-UCS version I would get one if you can. And save up more money by giving up beer and pizza for a while so you can also get the new UCS issue if LEGO does go with it. It has been a few years since they did issue 2011 model and they have issued one version every few years for a long time. (mini and micro sized doesn't count)

You're building something and you need to center piece and offset by half stud. But there is nothing that can fit in a 1x3 area to 1x2 area. Using a regular 1x2 jumper with a 1x2 part would allow it to rotate and mess up the look. Can we have a 1x3 jumper plate with 2 offset studs to fill in the gap above??

I think my copy is being goofy. I've restarted Brickficiency a few times and tried again, it kept reporting no match found (even 5 combinations) and when I had it display the part list, this came up: - Parts list sorted by number of stores 0 stores have White Plate 1 x 2 I checked Bricklink, there are more than 900 sources and stock of over 1 million 1x2 white plate part # 3023 yet every time I tried, Brickficiency seems to think there is no source.

[LDD MOC] 71,000 piece, 13-foot Super Star Destroyer
Lego Otaku replied to Fox Hound's topic in LEGO Star Wars
lol NOPE. My computer was crying when it loaded this file for POV rendering, and my computer was a dual XEON rig. A server quality computer. Your average desktop might take an hour just to load then crash. I doubt LDDManager can handle it either so exporting to part list won't work. If the instruction was provided on file, it'd have to be broken into several sections just so average computer can handle it. -
New LEGO Stores opening in 2014-2015
Lego Otaku replied to rubberninja's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Still waiting for one in Michigan a little closer to my home. Troy is almost 90 minutes drive south of where I live. If one appeared in Flint or Saginaw I know I would be blowing a lot more money on LEGO since I wouldn't spend so much on gas for driving to the store. -
[MOC] Modular style hardware store in progress
Lego Otaku replied to Lego Otaku's topic in LEGO Town
I've spent most of the time fixing illegal bricks. It's amazing how despite being careful I managed to slip in a single 1x4 brick with no pins in a color that only exists in alternate version with pin. The pin-less version exists only for transparent color. A few other parts such as 3x3 tan plate never existed and had to be changed to something that exists. Probably over 100 bricks replaced. LDDManager was a big help in ferreting out nonexistent parts/color combination. -
It can be tedious to list hundred stores with minimum buys into BF, especially when you don't know which stores are going to be picked among the cheapest. Plus they can change the term or limit without notice so if you set up BF then in between time you last checked and entered the number and the time it spits out the list, and the time you get to buying the parts the limit can change. You're better off manually checking the few stores for limits and fees before you commit to filling the shopping cart and buying them.

LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Lego Otaku replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Some computers usually gets unstable after 10k bricks in a single file but the number can vary. Lots of 32x32 baseplates hurts because of polygon count. If your computer is old enough to remember Windows XP install, it's probably a bit old nowday. Some budget PCs like those from Walmart with cheap CPU like Fusion is also poor at handling LDD with large project. Laptop isn't the best one to use either because they usually have lower performing CPU that runs cooler. If your computer is modern and has true CPU and not cheap ones, and it still had trouble, have you tried stability test to rule out hardware issues? Memtest 86 can be downloaded and copied to bootable disk or USB and run from there to check memory. Prime95 torture test can also check for problem with CPU and motherboard. Furmark 3D or Occt for video card. If any of them fails, check and make sure all of the fans are running smoothly, free of dust, all connectors and parts seated well, and power supply is not some cheap no name junk. If your hardware works fine and you still have problem, it may be to virus(es), check it out. The good people at forums like overclock.net usually can help check your system out, make suggestion what to fix or replace if it is older or defective, and http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f50/ for checking for malware. My laptop is old (4 or 5 years old) and has lower end socket 775 dual Celeron with a paltry 4GB RAM and it runs LDD fine up to about 5k parts. My beast of a PC with dual XEON CPU handled over 400k pieces (albeit very slowly) and was able to take screenshots. The dual XEON and other server level computers don't come cheap and is definitely not for average home use. -
[MOC] Modular style hardware store in progress
Lego Otaku replied to Lego Otaku's topic in LEGO Town
Next part: http://www.brickshel...d/hardware3.lxf now over 2800 pieces Rough back story, the wooden building was built first likely sometime in 1870's. Then the brick building next to it but for reason only known to builders over 100 years ago, they choose to build the stair access to upper floors of the building through the wood building. Currently the first floor of the brick building is ice cream shop. It used to be a barber (plus doctor/dentist) shop. The upper parts are single apartment for up to 2 people. The wood building used to be a general store and became simply hardware store. Exterior is pretty much done. Might still tweak it a bit but general overall looks good to me. Second floor of the building. Still to do: kitchen fixture and dining room furniture. It'll be a combination dining and living area and I'd like to install a nice flat screen TV somewhere but that's later. There's fire escape door on the back. Upper floor with the bed and dresser plus bathroom. I went with the kooky separate hot/cold water faucets for the sink as they seems to be common in older building here in USA. It's rarely installed in new building because very few knows how to handle that. Hidden behind the bathroom shelf (towel and toiletries) is a ladder to the roof. I still need to work on the toilet, I don't like how the tank part came out. The roof. The skylight window is right above the bed. I'd like to add shutter that could be used by minifig to close it such as when they need to sleep through the day or if they are worried about helicoptor or spy satellite peering into their private life. The roof access panel is left open there. Back view. LDD doesn't handle small flexible item like the flower stems so I can't put the flower on the other 2 stems or put the second stem in. I noticed I used a few pieces in this MOC that hasn't been released in color officially. Such as 1x4x2 panels in trans-clear. I need idea for table and chairs, and for kitchen. Also bedroom seems a bit spare, maybe an idea or 3? PS as the building is old, some decades ago one of the former tenant who robbed a bank hid money bag somewhere and it remains undiscovered to this day. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Lego Otaku replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Gravity check! Once in a while I have floating brick or brick oddly placed and with large project it's often hard to see errant brick or 2 unless they fall down or gets marked as non-complying to make fixing easier. It would be really useful if one planned to build a real model based on concept design in LDD. -
Great job!! I like how the wall looked warped like it was put together overnight (which they did I believe) and then not well maintained for the next 40 years. Only thing missing are some graffiti, I've seen section of wall that looks like it belongs to modern art museum when they finally knocked the walls down and reuntied both W&E Germany into one country.

Plate "warp" when building large area
Lego Otaku replied to Jan_sh's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Also make sure all the pieces are completely into each other. Some large pieces may not quite snap completely together, leaving bits of gap and causing warping issue. -
If I was selling, I generally keep it with the rest of the minifig in its own bag so I don't have to hunt for 8 parts to sell one minifig. I don't part out new minifigs. Old minifigs I get that aren't matched to original body parts, I leave it in my part bin as mystery part to play with and not to sell.

I think this guy wins the AFOL competition
Lego Otaku replied to Faefrost's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Grumpy belongs to someone already. How about Cranky Old Fan of LEGO? COFOL? -
BF already stops calculation before it starts if there is no source of a part you have on want list. Occasionally the part gets imported wrong. Usually it loses color information and if I manually set color, it works. If I have really rare part on my list or a part that doesn't exist in color I want, it'll stop and not waste hours looking for stores.

Official GREEN space men!!! Green air tank have been around for many years, likely a proto or one off production for the park and I've wanted one classic style in green but the air tank was pricey! Now if only LEGO would do old grey classic. We did have many source of grey tanks and the castle set had grey helmet in correct style helmet. Too bad LEGO probably won't bring back old color if they ever release grey space men.
