Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Felkin replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
We're apparently getting a new Sanctum Sanctorum which is partially based on Multiverse of Madness, set 76218. But yes, it's almost certainly to avoid spoilers. We only got one set based on No Way Home (and two sets "based on" earlier Spidey movies but with outfits that he wears in No Way Home), and the latest Disney+ TV shows haven't had any CMFs or sets (yet). A lot of Marvel merchandise is nowadays being released long after the initial theatrical/streaming release of the film/show, anything which may be considered a spoiler. Hopefully we'll get sets later rather than not at all... if we DO get a MoM Sanctum this year, I'm hoping it means we'll also get a NWH final showdown set with all the heroes and villains! -
Maybe it's an early version sent out to reviewers in advance? I always assumed they got a "regular" production run of the sets they review, but maybe not, because that does NOT look official. The Hogwarts with corners is such a marked improvement, though!
-
The T-Rex should be dark tan, not reddish brown in my opinion, plus it would make the grey joint pieces less obvious. Everything else about the set is awesome though, so I might try to MOD Rexy when I get it.

Book exclusives don't get new moulds, and Klarion will (hopefully) get a unique hairpiece for his devil-horn hair. If Klarion had come in the book, he would probably have gotten Wolverine's hair or some other existing hairpiece, so I'm happy he's NOT in the book! Lets just hope we get some other Young Justice characters in whatever set he eventually comes in; that show has been long overdue some Lego sets!

Peni Parker pilots a mech. Lego loves mechs. I'm just shocked it hasn't happened yet. I don't know if Peni is in the new movie(s), but even if she's not, I'm hopeful that Lego will include her in a tie-in set. Due to the complicated relationship between Disney/Marvel and Sony (Marvel makes the money from Spidey merchandise, not Sony, who only profit from the movies themselves), they may not make official sets based on the movie. This may have changed in recent years; after the whole "Spidey's Leaving the MCU!" fan outcry when Far From Home came out, the two seem to have a renewed partnership which may extend to better merchandising. But there's no way Lego won't make some sort of Spidey sets for this, and if they're not "official" sets but just tie-ins like last time, that actually makes it more likely they will include characters that were only in the first movie (although I'm still hoping Peni is in the sequel!) -

New Wolverine is crying out for the new shoulder pad 41637 in bright blue, but I'm loving that it's based on his original 70s' costume, not a repeat of the Astonishing one as was originally reported! -

I'm imagining a small wave of sets first to test the waters, to see how well the revived series goes down with the Lego-buying public. £20 "Wolverine vs Sabretooth", £35 "Juggernaut Rampage", and £50 "Magneto vs the X-Men", something like that. If they are popular (the sets AND the show itself), I'd imagine a D2C X-Mansion to cash in on adults who are nostalgic for the original show will follow. It took ages to get a Spider-Man D2C, so I don't expect Lego to do this immediately for X-Men, but I'm sure it'll come sooner rather than later. -
I hope TLG takes note & makes their own version; that looks incredible! Either a £130-ish playset version with just Gringotts and a single underground chamber, or a £200+ D2C with more detail as a minifig-scale display piece like Diagon Alley. I know one of the designers said they weren't doing Deathly Hallows stuff, but I hope that's just Lego's usual secrecy about upcoming waves. Even if they were telling the truth, I hope this MOC shows them the error of their ways!
-
They won't do it while Diagon Alley is on shelves (in case someone much richer than me buys it JUST for the quidditch uniforms), but afterwards a new set or minifig pack with all four house quidditch teams represented would be ideal. Stick Harry, Draco, Cedric and Cho in a minifig pack, maybe add the padding the quidditch players wore in later films for variety, and done! (Bonus points if Cedric comes with a burned stuck-by-lightning head print!)

"Something very special indeed for Harry Potter fans"... My dream would be announcing an updated LEGO Harry Potter video game, using the new mechanics for the Skywalker Saga game and with the newer character designs from the revived HP theme. Worst case scenario, they're announcing the winner of the fan designing contest. Either way, it's exciting times!

I'm digging the prices. £85 RRP for the two bigger sets with all seven minifigs, and the sets all look accurate (from what we've seen) to the movie. Okay, the bikes are fugly as heck, but that's the movie's fault, and since Catwoman is in the batcave anyway it doesn't matter to me. If these sets was for a new Star Wars movie, each single main character would be in a different £100+ set, so I'm more than happy with sets that are a nice balance of accurate yet affordable! I just hope the movie is as good...

I guess they're testing the waters, seeing how well Wolverine sells to kids nowadays compared to better known heroes from the MCU. Looking forward to getting a comic-accurate Iron Man; the Mighty Micro version was close, but the helmet print was too cartoony for my tastes. -
Gotham City Police headquarters. A tall gothic building with the Bat-signal on top, and various supervillains attacking / escaping the cells. I'd love a Daily Planet (the Superman family and their rogues don't get nearly enough love), but it would probably be too similar to the Daily Bugle.

Some people predicted that the "Icons" set might be the Horcruxes. What nobody guessed was that the Horcruxes would be released one at a time in different sets! The diary in this one, Hufflepuff's Cup in a "Treasures of Gringotts" set in a few years, Ravenclaw's Diadem in a "Room of Hidden Things" set a few years after that, etc (I'm joking... I hope!) The set is a nice idea, and I love that Hedwig, but I can't help but think they could have given Hedwig a better perch than several random school books. Harry's trunk, or a cauldron, would be more interesting. The vibe of you going off on your own adventure to Hogwarts is brilliant, but unless you're Hermione, you'll want to pack more than JUST books!

I'm disappointed we're not getting the Midtown Decathlon jacket from Homecoming, but instead a more generic yellow and green high school jacket, but I'm loving the minibuilds! It's not perfect, but it's better than I expected! -

Maybe Wong's finally found a job that pays for his tuna melts and ice creams? I don't mind if Abomination isn't in a Shang-Chi set, because he'll show up later (She-Hulk and/or Thunderbolts sets, hopefully)... and he'll be based on his appearance in Shang-Chi, not how he looked in the Hulk movie, or in (horror of horrors) concept art! -

Wanda's tiara may not be accurate for WandaVision, but at least it can be used for a comics Wanda! Given the slew of MCU content, we're unlikely to get any more comics-based sets, so getting such a distinctive piece is welcome! (Now if only they could sneak Hawkeye's classic blue and purple mask into a set or CMF...) -

Rumours said we're getting a random Chitauri in the Benatar set, which makes no sense to me. So, either they added a baddie for the good guys to fight, OR... somebody saw the set, but mistook one grey alien minifig for another! So, don't count Drax out just yet! -
It's a great way to get characters that don't fit into an upcoming set, and aren't interesting enough to be in a CMF, I just hope it's interesting enough for casual HP fans to pick up who aren't too familiar with these characters. I want Lego to keep making these minifig packs, since there are still so many characters and variants we would love to get, so I hope this pack sells well! Since Doris and Diggle were both in the Leaky Cauldron, does this mean NO pub in the near future (like Griphook in the CMF due to no Gringotts when the CMF was out), or does it mean a Leaky Cauldron IS coming but they wanted to save budget for more familiar minifigs in the set (like Moaning Myrtle in the CMF to compliment the upcoming bathroom set)? If the pack is still on shelves in summer 2022, I figure it might be either way, since we will see a return to "normal" sets next year.

Harry looks traumatised, it might have been better if they'd made the white ring around his eyes flesh coloured, but it's otherwise awesome. I'd never bought Brickheadz, but this one is mighty tempting!

The CMF Flying Warrior had brick wings, so hopefully Cap Falcon will get some sort of brick-built solution. Those Hawkman wings could get mangled in a CMF bag. -
I'd love to see a flying Buckbeak next year, if this is a new trend!
-
The sets are based on the movies, and in the movies Hogwarts doesn't have a green roof. This wave is just a one-off in terms of appearance, although I wouldn't be surprised if they keep the new modular system.

Tweety should have been micro-fig scale with Granny, but I guess this has more playability for kids. Looks more like a character from Itchy and Scratchy with that mallet, though... Why does Speedy not have the mid-size legs? His big thing (besides being a dated stereotype) is running... so they've given him legs that can't move. Why?! They've already shown that they don't care about scale between characters. I'm disappointed that Porky doesn't have a curly pigs tail piece. I thought it was guaranteed, if only so it could be re-used for Dudley Dursley in Harry Potter. But the best bit, genuinely? Lego has finally put cheese printing on a "cheese" slope!
-
The only buildable figures that Lego should tackle would be the puppet-style Three Brothers and Death from Deathly Hallows. Those would look terrible as minifigs, and wouldn't really lend themselves to a "normal" set anyway. Harry and Hermione makes no sense (unless you count Hermione reading the story to Harry...)
