Aliens - Colonial Marines Custom Minifigs
Captain Pirate Man replied to Blacktron's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I'm watching aliens as I type this, lol. These look great. Have you submitted it to lego by chance? This would be a fantastic lego ideas line. -
I had a lego room in my basement, but just recently decided to move it to a New room because I needed more space, lol. It is not complete, I need to build a bigger table. I use my room for 2 reasons, I wanted to have a place to display my lego world, as well as a place where I could make brick films. I made a film (in the editing process at the moment) in my old room, but I had to move the sets that I wasn't using, which was a pain. I want a world where it is big enough to do both. Which considering my world contains pirates, means I need to have space for an actual ocean, so it has to be quite large, lol. Sorry for the off topic rant, but someone said lego room.

As many of you, I am a AFOL, as well as a parent of little lego heads. Ever since the lego movie was released, I have officially become Lord Business. I keep my legos organized, I build the sets then leave them together. But children in the other hand don't seem to share that mentality. My daughter for example wants ever set she can get, but could care less to build most of them. She just wants certain random pieces for her own creations. Which I can respect her ability to build her own creations, that's part of the fun. But ever since I've discovered brick links, I'm like "no build the set, and if you want a certain piece from that set, I'll just get you another one." That compromise has helped immensely. But honestly her biggest problem is that she has a giant tube of random lego pieces. It takes freaking forever to find pieces in it, which in turn sucks a lot of the fun out of building. Even in my youth, that was my biggest complaint, searching for pieces in your collection. I realize many of you have really organized collections, but that's not really possible for a 10 year old, so I'm not looking for that answer. I'm more or less looking for some creative feedback, or just sparking the discussion, what to do with the giant tube of random lego pieces?

I posed this very question to my wife, "how would you feel if you found our son watching a lego SW review and the reviewer girl was wearing the SW gold Leia bikini?" She said "that's a pretty revealing outfit for a woman to be wearing on a show talking about a child's toy, I wouldn't let him watch it." I then posed the question, I wonder how people would respond to me wearing a provavctive male outfit reviewing a girls lego set, like friends or elves? People would probably call me a pervert and get my kicked off of YouTube or worse. Not to keep beating a dead horse, but my original point is that seems a little double standarish.

@Breakdown, I agree with you 100% that everyone on here have been more than friendly, it is a great site. Which I do not want to be one to create negativity where there is none. But having said that I do feel your post was a bit of an Apple's and oranges comparison. ALso, as I said earlier, it was not I that took us down that rabbit hole. Did I take us a step or two further on our journey, yes perhaps, and for that I apologize. But again, it was not I that began us on that journey. Also and I can't stress this enough, if you go and watch the clips in question (namely the SW episodes) you will find more comments about her appearance than about the legos or what she is saying. To her credit, most of those comments are positive, but others are also said to be from children, which I think speaks to the unnecessary feeling some of us were getting at. If I'm to be completely honest here, i do think she is using legos and her platform to draw some sexual attention to herself. Which I suppose she has the right to do so. Do I agree with it? No, but I'm hardly losing sleep over it either. But if she has the right to make such videos, do I not then have the right to call them into question? I just feel that if she wanted to draw some sexual attention to herself, using legos is not the appropriate platform. Had she made a video of herself, on a nonlego channel, wearing the slave outfit, I would have no problem with that what so ever. There are plenty of things on YouTube far more riske than that. I just can't help but think some of this has to do with the fact that I said negative comments regarding her looks, which I regret. But if I had said "she looks hot" I'm not sure anyone would have batted an eye. That just seems a little double standardise. Which I understand this site likes to keep things on the positive side, so all I can say is I have learned my lesson.
-
I also apologize if any of comments caused any hurt feelings.
-
I might be wrong in saying this, but I haven't read anything in here that violates the site guidelines. Sure some of us, myself included, did comment on her looks. But that is just our opinions, which I don't feel were abusive. Which perhaps I'm wrong in that opinion, but my point is that she made the conscious effort to reveal herself in a certain way. So by doing that I feel she opened herself up to a certain amount of ridicule. Imo, she took the focus away from her content by using her "assets", so I don't think it makes myself or others bad for stating our opinions on it. I guess all I can say is that I didn't open this can of worms, in this thread or on YouTube. But having said all of that, it doesn't really matter to me, so don't take this post for more than it really is, me playing devils advocate. I really don't have anything else to say on this given topic, thanks.

I'm denying that by definition you are correct. But I read an article earlier today on this very topic, and it's no coincidence that every Dragon to appear in a film is 2 legged. Think about it, all the dragon's from Harry Potter, 2 legged. The Dragon from Dragon slayer, 2 legged. And now Smaug is 2 legged. The only Dragon that I'm unsure of is the one that Sean Connery voiced. My point being that clearly this is a discussion that has taken place in every film that contains a dragon. But something about the 2 legged version makes them appear bigger and more sinister. Here is the article I read, these 2 legged dragons clear to be prefered by film makers. https://atolkienistperspective.wordpress.com/2013/11/13/dragons-vs-wyverns-the-question-of-smaug/ Also let me add, that these are all mythical creatures that their mythology has evolved over time as well. It is only in Britian where the wyvern was given a true definition, due to them being included in crests. So my point is, that due to motion pictures, the definition is clearly evolving again. So is Smaug and others like him a dragon or a wyvern? I guess it's in the eye of the beholder. But he is called a dragon, as are the rest that appeared in films, so as far as I'm concerned they are dragons.
-
Smaug was not a wyvern, but I understand what you are saying. Wyvern's are more snake like than what smaug was depicted in the films. Also most dragons that appear in movies are only two legged, it's because it makes them appear more sinister. So Jackson knew what he was doing by only giving Smaug two legs. Especially since Tolken drew Smaug with 4 legs, so clearly Jackson made that change. But again it's because of appearance. So as far as I'm concerned Smaug is indeed a Dragon, not a wyvern, even though he is 2 legged. Calling him a wyvern is changing his species, which is a greater injustice imo, than just accepting him as a 2 legged Dragon... Here is a size comparison between Smaug and the Dragon from Dragon mountain. http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag385/CaptainPirateMan/Mobile%20Uploads/0306152037_zpsth1xqzu6.jpg

Do you have more pics of them all standing together?

Which I gotta be honest, she isn't all that attractive. I mean she isn't ugly or out right hit up. But she isn't a girl that you would expect to let them all hang out either. Which I think takes away from her channel, it doesn't add to it imo. Sure they all say, sex sells. So maybe its helped her out, IDK? But it does seem unnecessary to me. Especially since a lot of children watch her channel I bet.

As a newer member around here, I would also like to know the answer to this. I'm already planning on getting another castle at some point in the future (Christmas probably being the earliest, since I literally just bought one). So I would like to know if I'm going back and getting an old set or waiting for next year, but in order to do that I need to see the New sets. -
Here are a few pics of my 70404 mod. I have a lot more up on my site. Why? That makes me lose some respect for her. Its not like she has the corner on the market for lego reviews. Yes she is one of the more popular channels, but that doesn't mean others can't do it as well. If I'm to be honest, I find her to be somewhat dry and boring. The Brick Show is far more entertaining imo.

Non Lego sets worth AFOL and collector attention

I am also an enlighten fan, when I'm on a budget they do a great job scratching my lego itch, even better than mb imo. -
Is this an isolated thing, or is this semi frequent where one reviewer takes issue with another reviewer?
