DC Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
Toa Palpo replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Let's be honest, if DC can start consistently pumping out quality movies and shows people actually want to see and get people talking, we'll see more sets. As it is, DC has faded far and fast in the cultural zeitgeist. Most of the discussion around DC/WB as of late has been pretty negative and frankly, much of it deserved. The Snydercut was extremely divisive and while the Suicide Squad sequel is getting rave reviews, will enough people see it? Will it have an impact on pop culture or fade away after a week or 2? Even if it does, will the next movie be any good? How about the one after that? The problem is DC sets are, and will continue to be a gamble for LEGO until they can consistently make films and series people want to see. It sucks, but there you have it. "What about comic-based sets?" You might say; well. Like it or not, the success or failure of the film franchise has a significant impact on related media and whether or not a company like LEGO wants to produce merchandise associated with that content. I'm looking forward to the Tumbler, I've often kicked myself for not getting tge original and if the new one comes with a nice little stand like the classic Batmobile, even better! I really do hope we get some unofficial Suicide Squad sets in tge future though. I so desperately want a King Shark bigfig.... -

Got my order in for the Trexler Marauder(along with the Birds of Paradise botanical set for my mom for Christmas, it's insane how popular the Botanical Collection sets are. My wife and I wanted to get my mom the Bouquet for Mother's day and we weren't able to get one until a couple weeks ago). I had the BB shuttle preordered so now I wait for that to ship too. The que system for the website was definitely new, hopefully that actually helps. It made things pretty smooth for me. -

Oh 100% As silly as it is, I love what they did with LEGO Batman Movie Killer Croc. It just makes the figure feel more LEGO, not to mention adds articulation and the ability to swap heads. King Shark would absolutely need the same treatment(of course it would look absolutely perfect, not silly like that Killer Croc). If they basically gave us the King Shark from the DC Supervillains game, I'd be super happy. -

The AC is neat but they've never been that interesting to me. They're a novelty. I'll start getting them annually once my son is old enough for them but until then I have yet to see one that compelled me to get one for myself. -

Can't wait for my BB shuttle to arrive! Glad the forge is finally revealed, the whole set looks awesome, great detail even if most of it is stickers. The printed trans blue cylinder of a Mandalorian is a pleasant surprise. I'm pretty happy with the armor minus a fur piece for the shoulders and an actual pair of tongs for her. Pre Visla looks awesome. Interesting they chose to go with gunmetal for the jetpack for Din rather than pearl silver. The unprinted gunmetal Mandalorian helmet is a nice inclusion but would have been faaar better if it at least had the visor printed. As it is, it's pretty useless. Overall great set for a good price, given everything dropping Sunday, I'm kinda glad it's a September release. I'm also glad I already have Boba Fett's Starship and Duel on Mandalore. I'll probably grab the Marauder on Sunday. -

So having built Boba Fett's Starship and Duel on Mandalore, I really like both sets. Duel on Mandalore is definitely lacking in content, either they should have added parts for a bit of the hall leading up to the throne or sold this as a $15 set. As for Boba Fett's Starship, I'm very happy with how it turned out. It's a very solid build with nice detail and decent heft. Of course it's no 20th anniversary but it's still very nice and swooshable. I love the service cart/stand, such a brilliant inclusion. Reforged Boba Fett looks much better in person. Sand green is still the wrong color for the helmet and jetpack but it's a fantastic figure overall and I'm so happy to have it. Also, while there's technically no weapon storage, Boba's EE-3 Carbine Rifle fits perfectly in the space behind him in the cockpit and doesn't rattle around. -

I managed to find a handful of new sets at Kohl's! I managed to pick up Boba Fett's Starship and Duel on Mandalore those were the only 2 new Star Wars sets they had which works out, those were the 2 I was looking forward to most, luckily both rang up no problem I'll be home to build them in a couple hours. -

Overall they look amazing but wow a couple of these really got the short end of the stick. Overall quality and detail varies wildly. Bucky looks pathetic, especially next to Sam. Rhey literally pulled out all the stops on him, dual molded arms and legs, arm printing, leg and side leg printing, new hair piece, new wing piece, printed puece for Redwing, the works. Scarlet Witch looks great, tiara should've been dual molded but it's not bad, Spectral Vision looks good, needed some blue and man I wish he came with the Darkhold or a tiny ship of Theseus. Throg could've been better but is still really cool to get. Alligator Loki is really just a baby alligator. They really couldn't have been bothered to include one more piece for the horns? They could have even put a tiny hole in the head for a friends-style accessory. Even slapping a gold 1x1 modified tile with open clip on its back would have been something. Loki looks fine, Sylvie not so much, the green machete is pretty sad. Zombie Hunter Spider-man(never thought that would be a sentence I would say) looks excellent. Captain Britain looks great, way better thsn in the Hydra Stomper set, nice new hair piece and arm printing, side leg printing and dual molded legs. The rest I don't really care about. Zombie Cap is well done, Monica looks fine but I'd rather wait for her The Marvels figure as I guarantee she'll get her proper uniform in the film. I don't care at all about Starlord T'Challa but he's done well. Gamora/Thanos looks good but the weapon is pretty awful and she should have gotten shoulder armor, side leg printing would've been nice. -

Dangit!! I got really excited for a minute, that alone would have shot White Vision to the top of my list. We better get a Darkhold in DS2 sets. -

Haha don't be, it's an incredibly extreme take to call for people to be fired over this. People may disagree about figure inclusions and design choices but I think most of us can agree that the SW sets themselves are usually stellar and pretty accurate, especially compared to other licensed themes. I can give the issues with the Gunship a pass because of how incredible the rest of the sets and figures are this year. I feel like people have already forgotten and those sets aren't even out yet. -

Yeah, I can't stand mandr but I can't help but agree with the underlying sentiment of the video. It is hard to hear and see all of these things and not feel like the team is out of touch or have designers who may have a bias against prequel content. Also, I forgot the figure selection was part of the fan vote. Obviously they weren't going to give us something insane but they absolutely should have tried a little harder. That coupled with the comment about no one being able to tell the difference between a Clone Pilot and a Clone Captain so it doesn't matter makes me change my mind a bit on the figure inclusion. They're still not bad figures and they're perfectly appropriate for the set, likely moreso than a phase 2 Cody but I can understand people's frustrations. At this point, hopefully the outcry for phase 2 Cody has reached them enoufh that they'll include him in a standard retail set next year or something. Considering the insanely good wave of Mando and CW sets we're getting next month, I can't help but feel optimistic despite the problems surrounding the UCS Gunship. Edit: Woops! Sorry, did not mean to double post! -

I will say it absolutely should have come with a Clone Pilot and now having had the chance to hear what the designer said about the Clone Captain in the set.... wow, that's utterly ridiculous, those comments make absolutely no sense. -

My thoughts on the gunship are, it looks great but I'm glad it doesn't have any special figures like Cody because I don't plan on getting it, at least not anytine soon. I agree with the designers' view that UCS sets are about the builds, not the figures. Locking a highly desirable figure behind a big expensive set is a terrible idea. I will say they should have at least given the figures arm printing. I think that would have at least made them more special. -

I just mean I find it ironic because people constantly complain about there not being enough detail on figures and then we finally get highly detailed figures and now some people are complaining about too much detail. I can't help but laugh a little lol. -

I can't help but shake my head at the people complaining about too much detail, like seriously!? Lol. I think he looks great. The hair piece is a little off but will probably look better in person or in professional pictures. I definitely agree that the hair piece is perfect for Blade! -

Sylvie looks okay, new Spidey looks really good, though the arms appear to suffer from the same problems as the standard Spidey. You'd think a couple decades later, they would've figured out how to print properly on different colored plastics... also print with a proper amount of opaqueness. -

The Marvel Legends figures have been revealed and everything but the black gold suit seem to be very accurate. Interestingly, the Marvel Legends figure has red on the hands and arms and nowhere else and no other interpretation of this design seems to have the red. It seems really out of place but there must be a reason for it. -

It's easily the best back-of-box picture I've seen in a longtime. I laughed pretty hard when I saw it. I love that the cloak of levitation is basically it's own character and it feels like LEGO is acknowledging that by giving it its own inique mold. Sadly it doesn't look like it'll be able to stand on its own but it definitely makes for more fun displays like this. I know some will hate that it's hard plastic(or more potentially rubber given jow it appears to attach to Strange) but if you think about it, it's very pet-like in the films so one could say it's basically a new animal mold -

I remember when the portal monster led myself and many others to believe Shuma-Gorath was going to appear in the film but it never happened. I think it's more likely now that this creature will actually appear in the film given the detail on the stickers and overall design cues but it's probably a good idea to have scepticism about it's inclusion. I will say it looks a lot like what I expect an MCU version of the Brood to look like so if it ends up not appearing in the movie, I'm going with that headcanon until proven otherwise. -

Wow the new Spidey figures are incredible!! The No Way Home build is excellent, the rest of the builds are terrible. THAT DOCTOR STRANGE CAPE I love it!!! The 4+ set has excellent figures, we finally get the ditko suit with dual molding and leg printing and a fixed Mysterio, the Homecoming set is bizarre but the new Vulture looks great, the wings are even more ridiculous than the last though. The black and gold Spidey looks awesome though. The real highlight is the No Way Home set, not only is the new Doctor Strange incredible, we get an excellent new Wong and the new Iron-Spider-esque suit looks amazing! Based on the set, it looks like Peter is going to be hiding out in Docror Strange's basement which is hilarious and awesome. The builds of this set are amazing. This set easily skyrocketed to the top of my most wanted LEGO Marvel set for 2021! The figures and build if it are amazing, the monster(multiverse creature?) Is really cool, the whole playset looks amazing with lots of detail. -
These are fantastic! I'm a huge Transformers fan as well as LEGO so I always love to see these types of mocs but the sheer number and variety you've managed to come up with is just incredible. Wheeljack is my favorite Transformer so I'm particularly fond of that one.

Yeah, the Hydra-Stomper and New Asgard sets are going to be easy passes for me. The build for New Asgard is very well done but I just don't like the figures, plus I honestly hated this part of the movie. I think I must be the only one who hated bro Thor after we got the unholy beast of a Thor we got in Infiniry War and the beginning of Endgame, he was one of my favorite characters and then he did a complete 180. The Hydra-Stomper is nothing special, same basic Hulkbuster-esque build. Red Skull is just the same one we've already had but with Harry Potter legs for the trench coat. Captain Britain looks okay but not enough for me to consider buying the set. -

That I do remember which is why I referred to just the Mandalorian and the films. On a related note, wow the amount of artificial outrage people are having around the internet over the name of the set is hilariously absurd. People just love to jump to wild conclusions. I finally had a chance to read a bunch of reviews(and watch a couple I found posted on YouTube) and I have to be honest, while I was definitely interested in the Trexler Marauder, it got overshadowed by everything else in this incredible wave but now it's one of my most anticipated. The incredible amount of detail and purpose in design, the space for figures and cargo with lots of opening hatches and just overall how perfectly executed it is for being a floating grey box is far more impressive than it has any right to be and it's now jumped up the list for me.
